Work Text:
This was her 156th day on Earth, and it was about to be her last. The unfathomably deep shadows continued to consume the world around her until they formed into a deadly pair of teeth preparing to swallow Zam whole. It was never going to work; her magic wasn’t strong enough, she wasn’t strong enough. Now, Zam can do nothing but accept the open arms of the maw.
There’s a cacophony enveloping Zam, one sparkling and shimmering in gold and raining from the sky. A fog lifts, and the evil of the unknown rises to reveal the blooming pastures and dancing sheep. She feels a tug deep within her chest that pulses with the sensation of mana mixing with mana, telling her that her soulmate is here.
Zam gets steps through the veil of the spiritual to reality in response to the rhythmic rubbing sensation on her head. Kind, thin, gentle fingers brushed through all of her stray hairs and stray thoughts. Graecie’s dark, but warm eyes welcome Zam in. It’s okay, my soulmate is here.
“It’s okay, I’m here for you,” Graecie coos. The dark in the corners of Zam’s eyes continues to recede. Suddenly, she can see the world for what it is- just an empty, grassy valley. Ring Ring, the bell chimed for her to run back inside.
“I did my blessing, I hope it’s making you feel better,” Graecie looks genuinely worried she had done the wrong thing- who could make her feel such a horrible way? Those same kind fingers gently squeezed their way between Zam’s, locking the two in a firm embrace.
“Yeah… it did,” Zam placed her cheek on Graecie’s head, reminding her just how different they were. How different Zam was.
“Okay, well that’s good!” Graecie chimed, “Let me know if you need me to cast it again.”
“ I will.”
“Oh, Blessed Bells!”
Thank you, Sherpardess, thank you. For what is a UFO sighting without its crop circle? Zam is starting to feel closer to who she is.
I hope this friendship lasts forever.
Zam deserves this.
It’s okay to be happy.
Zam didn’t know how to express gratitude at Graecie’s good will. She didn’t know if humans expected you to give something equal in return.
Even after being cured, she was still finding a way to seek attention.
Was there ever going to be an easy win for PrinceZam?
