can you really get lost in heaven?

Summary:

"Anything you want to talk about?" You said in an attempt to break the silence. You didn't even mind what you talked about, but you didn't want things to be like this the entire time.

"Yes, but not here. We can discuss things when we're back at headquarters,"

"I didn't mean to do with the case, I would be surprised if you had nothing to say about that. I meant did you have anything you want to talk about whilst we're in here?"

"My impression of this game is that people do not usually speak,"

"That's typically because they're kissing,"

"Yes. I was wondering if you'd let me kiss you." L looked up at you, and you didn't detect any change in his voice. He asked as though this was a perfectly normal thing to say to a colleague.

OR

Work Text:

Misa had invited you to her party, and you were not enthusiastic about attending. It wasn't like you'd never been to parties before, but attending one hosted by the second Kira after a personal invitation did not sound the most appealing. She had invited L and Light too, and much to your surprise L accepted immediately. When you asked him about it once everybody else had gone to bed, he stated it was because Light had to go in order to keep up appearances of being her boyfriend, and we needed to keep an eye on them both. Unfortunately his logic was sound—you're not entirely sure what else you expected from the greatest detective in the world—so you had no option but to attend.

Halfway through the night, Misa decided that it would be a great idea to gather everyone to play seven minutes in heaven. It was clearly an attempt at getting herself and Light in the closet together—and in her defence it did work—however it also meant that it took a few tries for them to get there.

"It's time for you two to play!" Misa said, gesturing over towards you and L.

You weren't opposed to playing in ordinary circumstances, however going in there with L? You had worked on a case together previously so you were well acquainted, and it even felt like you had somewhat of a friendship. Despite that, you didn't communicate much outside of work hours, and you never expected to. It's not that you didn't want to talk to him, but he was always working and you worried it would come across as unprofessional to seek him out for personal reasons.

Considering the fact he was a complete workaholic, the idea of L at a party in general was absurd, and you couldn't imagine he'd want to engage in whatever this madness was—especially with somebody working directly beneath him.

"Yes, I suppose it's our turn," L said, beginning to stand up and make his way over to you.

"What? We're actually doing this?" You said as you felt the heat rise to your cheeks.

"Misa spun the bottle twice and it landed on both of us. I did not detect any manipulation on her part and we agreed to play the game, so it is fair to conclude that she is correct and it's our turn,"

"Good point…"

"Unless you don't want to? I wouldn't want to make you uncomfortable,"

You were not uncomfortable with the idea, you were nervous. L was surprisingly charming in his own way and the thought of being alone with him in this context was a bit too much for your brain to process. You couldn't deny that you had developed feelings for him over the time you'd known each other, but they were feelings you kept buried. He was not the type of man to care about love and you didn't want to alter your existing relationship, so you had never felt like it was relevant to bring up. This changed things though—you were unsure what his plan was for when you were in there. Discuss the case and what's happening at the party? No, it wasn't private enough for him to consider that; there would be too many opportunities for people to listen in. There was only one way to find out.

"No I'm not uncomfortable, let's go,"

You had entered the closet together and L was crouching opposite you, biting at his thumb and staring into the abyss—neither of you had said anything yet.

"Huh?! You want to kiss me?" You said, sounding more startled than you intended. You were actually pleased with his suggestion, but hesitant to go through with it.

"I've never been to a party, and I've never played a game like this before. I doubt I ever will again which means this is the perfect opportunity to kiss you, and it is something I would like to do regardless," he said matter-of-factly; his forwardness was extremely attractive.

"I see, I can understand that." You decided to make your way over to him instead of standing on the other side of the closet, opting instead to stand next to him.

"Though I would not hold it against you if you don't want to. I am aware I'm not conventionally attractive." You thought you could detect the slightest hint of vulnerability lacing his voice, but you didn't want to start overthinking things.

"I never said I don't want to,"

"Which implies that you do want to,"

"Perhaps it does,"

"Then you'll have to forgive me for being so inexperienced, but I like to think of myself as a rather fast learner." L stood up and turned towards you, moving his hand beneath your chin and lifting it up so you were looking directly at him.

"Don't worry, I can teach you a thing or two." You pressed your lips against his, taking it slow so he had time to acclimatise to your touch. His lips began to move in time with yours as you threw your arms around his neck, settling into a steady rhythm.

As you continued kissing he became more confident, his hands finding either side of your waist. His touch was light; it was clear he was assessing what his next move should be. It was as though he was analysing you like he would one of his cases; it made you blush knowing he had so much of his focus on you.

L pulled away from your lips, "I'm not accustomed to being touched like this."

His honesty made you melt; it was one of the things you liked most about him. You never saw him as the type of person that would allow himself to be vulnerable in this way so you were shocked he was so open with his feelings, though you were not complaining—you were more than happy to be wrong.

"Let me know if you want to stop," you said, unable to stop yourself from momentarily glancing down at his mouth.

"I highly doubt I'll be taking you up on that offer," he said, capturing your lips in his once more.

You let out a soft gasp—you weren't expecting him to take the initiative. You could feel him smile against your lips as his grip on your waist tightened and he used his strength to turn you around, pushing you against the closet wall. For somebody who rarely saw any sunlight and was obsessed with eating sugar, he was surprisingly muscular.

You couldn't help but let your mind wander to what he looks like under his clothes, but that was something to explore another day; this was already too overwhelming for you. It was still difficult to believe that this was even happening—L surrendering himself to you was a sight you never thought you'd see, even in your wildest dreams.

L tilted his head to deepen the kiss, and you began to slide your tongue across his lips requesting access. He immediately parted his lips, allowing you to explore. He quickly took back control for himself, setting the pace of the kiss and, what you suspected to be absentmindedly, began tracing circles on your waist.

You threaded your fingers through his hair and tugged at the loose strands, moving your other hand down to his chest. He briefly faltered as a low groan left him, however he soon regained his composure and pulled you closer into his body.

"Fast learner is an understatement," you muttered, pulling away from him just enough to gently bite down on his bottom lip.

"Yes, though I believe practise makes perfect," he said, his voice slightly shaky and pupils dilated—you could tell he was enjoying himself.

He moved away from your lips and started planting kisses along your jawline, his hand moving to sweep your hair out of your face.

"I read that this is one of the most pleasurable places to be kissed," he whispered into your ear as he reached the sensitive spot behind it, lightly sucking at the skin; it was hard to believe this was his first time. You let out a moan as you craned your neck to the side, allowing him better access.

"Your research was a success," you said, a lot less stable than you intended. You could practically picture him reading up on how to kiss someone, and it was incredibly endearing how much he cared about getting things right. It was reasonable to assume that he had researched prior to this party since it was something he has never experienced before, and it made you wonder whether he actually wanted this to happen before you'd even arrived.

"45 seconds left you two!" Misa said from beyond the closet—at least she had the courtesy of giving some kind of warning.

L removed himself from your neck, but did not let go of your waist. You stayed where you were and looked into his eyes, rubbing the back of his neck with your thumb whilst you waited for him to speak.

"Preferably not in a closet, but I would like to continue this another time, if you are in agreement," he said, not taking his eyes off you. His gaze was intense, and you could tell that making sure you weren't being forced to do anything you didn't want to was important to him.

"I'd like that." You were pleasantly surprised he didn't want this to be a one time thing; maybe your feelings were reciprocated after all. You didn't want to get your hopes up too high, but you couldn't deny that you were content with the direction things seemed to be heading.

"I am happy to hear that, I will make some arrangements and inform you of our plan." You could've sworn you saw a slight smile tug at his lips as he removed his hands from your waist and assumed his usual crouching position whilst you both waited for the timer to run out.

You giggled at his level of formality, but you'd be lying if you said you didn't find it cute. It seemed like this wasn't the last of the fun you would have together, and you couldn't be happier about it.
