    Summary

Cairo, Egypt. Present day. Dr. Samira Hassan is a professor of archaeology at the University of Cairo. She is respected in her field, and she has built her career on debunking the myths of the Isu, an ancient civilization that some believe predated humanity. She receives a call from a lawyer in Istanbul: her father, Marcus, has died. She has not spoken to him in twenty-five years. The lawyer tells her that she has inherited Marcus's estate, which includes a small apartment, a collection of journals, and a box that she is not to open until she is alone. Samira flies to Istanbul, and she opens the box. Inside, there is a hidden blade, old and worn, and a letter from her father. The letter says, "I am sorry. The city is real. Finish what I started.
