Winter Preparations

Summary:

As winter settles over Ishigami Village, Senku and (Y/N)’s relationship quietly transforms from partnership into something deeply permanent. While helping the Kingdom of Science prepare for the harsh season ahead, (Y/N) slowly becomes woven into every part of village life—working beside Yuzuriha, supporting Senku’s inventions, and helping create a safer future for everyone. Through warm winter days filled with sewing, science, and shared work, the bond between her and Senku grows impossible to ignore.

After Yuzuriha gifts (Y/N) handmade winter clothes, she decides to create a custom winter lab coat for Senku in return. Every stitch is carefully designed around his habits, movements, and needs, leaving Senku deeply moved when he realizes just how closely she understands him.

As snow-covered nights pass in the small tent they share beside the lab, the two begin opening their hearts fully to one another. Senku admits he sleeps better when she’s near, while (Y/N) realizes he already feels like home to her. Eventually, she confesses that she wants something permanent—a real home they can build together after winter ends.

Notes:

Welcome to the twentieth story in my Ishigami Senkuu x Reader!

Sorry for the late posting! I finished my spring semester of college and went back to working full time this week so time got away from me! LOL My cousin is also graduating from high school this weekend so I was trying to get ready for that as well!

I hope you guys like this one! It's definitely the beginning of where we can see the story drift from the canon storyline in regards to Senku and the reader's relationship!

Chapter 1: Preparing for Winter

Chapter Text

A Changing Season

The crisp bite of late autumn swept through Ishigami Village in a way that made everyone feel both alert and nostalgic. The leaves had turned gold and deep red, crunching softly underfoot as people scurried about preparing for the coming freeze.

Winter came quickly in this region; something new appearing every day. Senku warned everyone that winter would be upon the village far soon than they could expect.

But this year, things were going to be different.

This year, the Kingdom of Science wasn’t just preparing to survive winter.

They were preparing to thrive.

And for the first time since the battle with Hyoga, you felt well enough to help again—really help.

“(Y/N)! Over here!”

Yuzuriha waved cheerfully from where she was stitching thick hide into warm coats. Taiju stood beside her, hammering wooden stakes into the ground to secure a windbreak barrier for the livestock.

You hurried over, clutching the woven basket Senku had filled earlier with tools and materials.

“How can I help?”

Yuzuriha’s eyes softened immediately.

“With sewing, if you’re up for it. It’s gentle work—you won’t strain yourself.”

Taiju gave you an enormous grin.

“And I can lift all the heavy stuff for you!! You point, I carry!”

You laughed. “That seems about right.”

Working Together

Senku appeared a moment later, arms full of insulated clay pots he was testing. He dropped them into the snow with a thud and looked at you first, eyes flicking briefly over your posture—checking that you weren’t pushing yourself.

“It’s colder than expected today,” he said, brushing frost from his sleeves. “We need to finish these coats before the first proper freeze hits.”

Taiju thumped his chest.

“Then let’s get to it!”

Yuzuriha leaned toward you and whispered, “He’s excited. Winter preparation is… kind of his thing.”

You giggled quietly.

Then she added even more softly, “He’s been keeping an eye on you all morning, too.”

Your cheeks warmed. “I know.”

Senku pretended not to hear.

He absolutely heard.

The morning passed in a steady rhythm of useful work.

Yuzuriha taught you how to stitch thicker fur panels seamlessly. She worked with the patience of someone who genuinely enjoyed helping others, humming softly as she guided your hands.

“You’re getting so fast,” Yuzuriha said warmly. “Your stitches are incredibly steady.”

“Senku had me doing detailed string-work for the experiments earlier this year,” you said. “It helps.”

Senku let out a short hum of agreement as he adjusted the clay pot lids.

“Yeah, well, you’re good at fine motor stuff. Better than Chrome. The guy trips over his own hands.”

“HEY!” Chrome yelled from across the village.

Taiju burst into laughter.

While you sewed, Senku tinkered with insulation mixtures. Taiju brought logs to reinforce the storerooms. Yuzuriha organized the thick quills she used for stitching.

It felt peaceful.

Warm.

Like everyone was part of something shared and meaningful.

A Quiet Warmth

Senku, who often drifted into his own world when working, kept ending up at your side—under the excuse of “checking the materials” or “testing the stitching tension.” But he stayed just a little too long each time.

Once, he leaned over your shoulder to inspect your seams, his breath warm against your ear.

“These are perfect,” he murmured.

Your fingers faltered slightly.

Yuzuriha hid a giggle behind her sleeve.

Taiju just beamed.

Senku ignored them all with world-class denial skills.

By noon, the coats were nearly finished. Yuzuriha stretched her arms with satisfaction.

“We’ll have plenty of warm clothing this year. That’s going to make everyone so much safer.”

Taiju nodded enthusiastically.

“And Senku says the new insulation pots will make winter food storage way better!”

You smiled at Senku. “You’ve been planning this for months, haven’t you?”

He shrugged—but pride gleamed in his eyes.

“Preparation is everything. Especially when we can’t just flip on a heater anymore.”

Taiju leaned in close to Yuzuriha and stage-whispered loudly enough for the entire village to hear:

“He says that, but really he’s preparing because you hate being cold.”

Senku froze mid-movement.

You choked.

Yuzuriha burst into delighted laughter.

“Taiju,” Senku said flatly, “I’m going to revoke your hammer privileges.”

“You can’t!” Taiju cried dramatically. “The hammer is my soul!”

The entire crew laughed, even you.

Senku rubbed the back of his neck, pretending to be annoyed, but his eyes flicked toward you with unmistakable affection.

“…Cold weather is inconvenient for everyone,” he muttered.

Taiju grinned victoriously.

Later, as the sun dipped toward afternoon, Senku asked, “(Y/N). Come with me. Need your help testing something.”

You followed him toward the forest trail where frost dusted the branches like powdered sugar.

“What are we testing?” you asked.

He handed you a thin wooden rod with a fiber-wrapped end.

“Wick durability,” he said. “Need to know how it behaves in freezing temperatures.”

A Small Test

You walked ahead, gently brushing the wick over different bark textures while Senku recorded the results.

After a few minutes, he stepped closer, voice quieter.

“You’re not overdoing it, right? With the sewing? Or walking?”

Your heart warmed.

“I’m fine,” you said softly. “Really. My wound barely aches anymore.”

He didn’t respond immediately.

Instead, he brushed his thumb lightly against your wrist—checking your pulse again, in his quiet, subtle way.

“…Good,” he murmured.

His hand didn’t drop right away.

You didn’t mind.

By the time you both returned, the sky had turned shades of violet, pink, and soft orange. A fire was burning near the center of the village, where Yuzuriha and Taiju stood proudly in front of the finished coat pile.

“We did it!” Yuzuriha said.

Taiju pumped a fist in the air. “Winter can’t stop us now!”

Ready for Winter

Senku nodded, satisfied but tired. He leaned slightly into your shoulder as you stood next to him—so subtle most wouldn’t notice. But Yuzuriha definitely noticed.

And smiled.

When the fire crackled warm against your hands, Senku finally spoke in a quiet voice meant only for you:

“This year… for the first time… winter doesn’t feel like something we need to fear.”

You looked up at him.

“Because of your inventions?”

He shook his head.

“Because we’re not facing it alone.”

Your breath hitched softly.

Senku smirked faintly at your expression.

“Don’t look so surprised,” he teased. “Even I can appreciate teamwork.”

Yuzuriha leaned over with the bright, knowing grin only she possessed.

“Especially this teamwork,” she sang.

Taiju nodded vigorously.

“I agree!! You two work great together!”

Senku groaned.

You giggled.

And the snow continued to fall softly around the four of you, warm with laughter, effort, and the quiet hope that the coldest winter could feel gentle when shared
