Work Text:
For years, Clark had come to a spacious, very quiet apartment after a long day of saving the world. He flew through the window into his living room where he was greeted by an armchair and a flat TV. Sometimes he thought maybe he should get a pet, something that would make noise upon his arrival so he didn’t feel so alone — but a day sitting his cousin’s dog had been enough to drop it.
Then, he started dating the smart pretty lady that sat behind him at the office. Lois Lane. …Just the way her name rolled off his tongue got him all giddy. From the moment she had first introduced herself three years ago, something about it made him know that she was special. By lunch break, he had realized that he would never be able to get her off his mind — and long story short; now he simply couldn’t live without her.
Maybe it was the unwritten social rule that it was ‘too soon’, but they had yet to exchange keys. Instead, they broke into each other’s places to surprise each other like that. It was the one thing Clark always looked up to after taking care of his Superman duties late at night.
Tonight, he had stopped by for Chinese takeout on his way home and flew through his window with a grin that curved from dimple to dimple. As usual, he found a quiet and dark apartment but Lois would usually be in the bedroom. After midnight, she’d get comfortable there and get some work done while waiting up.
“Hey, beautiful, I’m sorry it took longer than usual. I hope you are hungry I got enough Chinese to feed a—“ Upon finding his bedroom empty, Clark frowned. He checked the bathroom and even double checked the kitchen. She was nowhere to be found.
Welp, this sucked. Clark wagged his finger; there was a turnaround for this; his positivity would never let him give up so fast. He set the food over the kitchen counter and pulled his phone out. He opened his text conversation with Lois and started to type. His fingers were quick over the screen, sending short texts one after the other:
Guess I’ll just sit in bed
Alone
Cold
By myself
With Nobody to cuddle with
All alone
Clark scratched his hair and set his phone down. He knew her well enough; aware that she was most likely still up, so he waited for a reply. Their relationship was still new. They had only gone to their first date a couple of months ago, but he was well aware that she kind of liked that he was like this. He couldn’t be without her and if that made him codependent, needy, and clingy? Then so be it! He’d wear that label around his neck if it meant he would get to spend the night with her.
His eyes looked down now that the phone screen had lit up and buzzed over the counter: Lois had been quick to message back. The notification read something that made him smile and do a little celebration:
Oh shut up. I’m putting my shoes on.
Finding himself twirling in happiness, Clark cleared his throat and brought his hands down. Rubbing the back of his head, he was glad no one was there to see that. He whooshed to the bathroom to take a quick shower and wore a pair of fresh pajama pants. He settle the matching top over his bed, for her to wear.
He then whooshed back to the kitchen, worked on serving the takeout containers into bowls so he could reheat the food. As he tapped for ninety seconds in the microwave, Clark shook his head. It hadn’t taken long before he learned that Lois actually preferred her Chinese cold and to eat it from the takeout containers — with chopsticks. He found those in the bag, even made sure he got two sets.
As Clark brought the food out of the microwave and used the same serving spoon to put it back into the white boxes it had come in, his Super Hearing alerted him of a very familiar sound. Clark chuckled to himself as he picked on Lois’s way of breaking in.
His bare feet stayed steady even if inside he felt like an anxious golden retriever: desperate to wag his tale at his favorite person and welcome her with kisses and graceful barking. It took a lot in Clark to stand in the darkness of his kitchen, his back to the door as he heard how she took her shoes off and set them on the side. Closing his eyes, he took a deep breath; the scent of her presence smelt like home and belonging.
Years of practice made it easy for Lois to sneak in the shadows, she was as stealth as a black cat, barely visible in the dark. She was also highly affectionate and loyal to her favorite human, one she caught preparing her favorite meal.
“Mm…” A light moan purred against his shoulder as Lois hugged him from behind, her finger pads softly ran through his chest hair. “Much better now…” Her voice was soft and reassuring.
A cheeky smirk curved in his lips; aware those words hadn’t been for him. “Someone missed me.” Clark finally turned around, his eyes looking down to meet hers. As she leaned up for a kiss, his arms tightly wrapped around her waist and pulled her up, finally kissing her like he had been dying to do.
“Yeah, well.” Lois chuckled against his lips. She adjusted her legs now that he had sat her on the countertop, straddling him. Lois closed her eyes and welcomed every kiss he gave her, Clark peppered up her jaw, her neck, and pecked her lips a few times.
Once he pulled back, Clark smiled at her. He observed how she opened the two packs of chopsticks and handed him one. Lois pulled the little white takeout box closer from the metallic handle and pinched on a shrimp.
Clicking his chopsticks together, Clark playfully brought them to her and gently pinched her nose with them. He cackled at her giggles before kissing her cheek.
“Why did you do that…?” Lois wondered as she bit her lip.
“You’re too cuddly; I can’t help myself around you!” he simply confessed with a shrug.
“Mm.” Lois kept a dry voice and stoic face. She looked down to the shrimp caught between her chopsticks and tilted her chin up, her eyes turning playful.
Clark knew that look and he made sure she knew that he had read her mind. He parted his lips and happily took the bite she fed him.
“Hmm. If I’m the cuddly one, then what are you?”
“I don’t know, you tell me?” He smirked and as Lois hugged him from his waist he slightly pulled back to make eye contact; “And don’t say ‘cuddly’, that one is taken.”
“Um, you are…” Lois took a brief moment to think that through. But once she came up with something, she snapped her fingers and enthusiastically shared it; “Oh! I know…you are lovey-dovey!”
Slightly worried, he had to ask; “Is-is that a good thing?” Clark sheepishly begged; “Please tell me that’s a good thing.”
“Mm.” Lois reassured him with a nod and a smirk; “It’s a really good thing; I’m talking green flags everywhere.”
They shared a chuckle as they closed the space between them into a kiss.
“Green flags everywhere…” Clark was proud of that.
“Mm. Big ass green flags.” Lois nodded as she cupped his cheeks and kissed him again.
Clark broke the kiss, “How big?”
“Shut up, please.”
“Yes, ma‘am.” He mumbled into her lips, resuming the kiss.
