Work Text:
Rev’s day started as any other day in this god forsaken school, and this god forsaken dorm room, waking up in the same room with the same awfully cheerful vampire. The same one he got stuck with against his will and had no real chance of getting away from because the principal didn’t “believe” in room partner changes, probably in only Rev Vennets case, god he hated her.
“Shut it!” Rev yelled, too loud for how early in the morning it was, hurling a pillow to where he presumed the vampire’s nagging voice was coming from, and he was only made aware he was right when the vampire responded with a humph.
“Come on Rev! Don’t be such a grouch!” Mark exclaimed with a soft huff as he made his way to set the pillow that was just hurled at him back on the attacker’s bed, making sure to fluff it back up, watching as Rev quickly snatches it back like a dragon defending its horde. Mark couldn’t help but chuckle at him with that god awful fondness that Rev could just feel without even having to look to confirm the already known fact.
Rev hated it more than anything, it’s like the only thing the vampire was even good at was staring at Rev like he did something astonishing, well not that Rev didn’t mind the attention, but the staring always felt too much for him, it made everything feel…sappy, and Rev despised sappy.
“You have to get up.” Mark spoke up, breaking Rev’s train of thought. “We have to pack for the trip later tonight.” He slowly speaks in a quieter tone as he notices the already agitated look growing on Rev’s face, well more than the usual one he had.
With a loud groan Rev sits up and is unwillingly graced with the gift of waking up in the morning, one of these days he won’t, he swears on it.
(((o(*゚▽゚*)o)))♡
What time was it now? Ten? Almost midnight it seemed like. He couldn’t really tell, not like they had phones to check the time, well not Rev atleast. Either way he wouldn’t be able to even check it, not with how this vampire had him crushed against the bus’ side, his face practically smushed against the glass. The only reason he didn’t complain about it is because this vampire was a heavy sleeper, and no amount of shoving seemed to wake him or at the very least got him off his side.
Soon enough the bus came to an immediate stop, practically shoving him and Mark and everyone else on this bus to the ground. Who the hell was the driver, some dumbass skeleton. (It is) Whatever, not like it mattered, the stop seemed to wake up Mark as he stood in a slight half awake daze slowly coming to his senses.
“Ah! Are we here!”
The vampire exclaimed with excitement as he leaned over Rev to look out the window like some child looking into a candy shop. Rev stood up as well glancing outside to a dark and empty street. Nothing much to look at. Well to him atleast, Mark seemed to be ecstatic to see such a boring and simple street with a couple buildings here and there. What the hell were they here for anyways? He used whatever memory he could recall before they got on the bus. Something about “learning how to respectfully stay in a hotel” god how stupid was that.
“Come on Rev! We gotta get off to see what Ms. Yaga and Prf. Lovecraft need us to do!”
Rev could barely respond before he was dragged along by the vampire holding onto his wrist, Rev did his best to try and pull away but the vampire was freakishly strong, how annoying.
“Let go!”
Rev grumbled as he managed to finally release his wrist from his grasp, mainly because Mark let go as they were already off the bus listening to Ms. Yaga speak about room buddies or something. Once again before he could fully focus on the words coming from her mouth Mark was already in his face asking to be room buddies.
“Rev! Let’s buddy up!”
He said way to cheerfully that it made Rev feel even more annoyed already. Why couldn’t he just have been excluded from this trip. Well, atleast he could be outside of the hell hole of school for once.
“No.”
Rev said cold and harshly, glancing away, hoping to find a way out of this partner up. His eyes quickly landing on the angel. Easy, he could just pass Mark onto her and make him her problem.
“Hey angel!”
He called out to her, making his way to her as Mark followed closely behind, as he walked up he saw her having a conversation with…Bella Donna?! Rev stopped for a moment confused. When had they gotten close? Hell, when has Sera even had a conversation with anyone other than him and Mark??
He stood there a little dumbfounded and before he knew it they walked off and so did everyone else in the class, leaving him and Mark alone. Seriously. He really did have to partner up with him after all.
“Reeevvv~!”
Mark said holding the note for a moment with an almost teasing tone, Rev could feel Mark’s fanged smile without even looking at him to confirm it, only irritating him further as he sighed in defeat.
“Hurry up. I don’t wanna have to deal with Ms.Yaga yelling at me.”
He muttered annoyed as he made his way into the building everyone else had gone in. The interior was sleek, modern, but still vaguely trashy like he expected just from the outside and the barren streets. Made sense to have the trip be here. No way in hell would any person would willingly stay here.
Mark made his way ahead of him looking around with an excitement in his eyes like this was the first time he’d ever seen the inside of a building, it was sort of endearing, if Rev decided to acknowledge that it was. But as always why would he? Feelings would only make everything more…complicated.
(๑>◡<๑)
After hearing Lovecraft’s lecture about proper etiquette, being respectful, the luxury of staying in a hotel blah, blah, blah, something about rooms and all that crap that Rev couldn’t be bothered to focus on, Mark of course being the opposite and listening to every word like there would be test on it. He could just imagine Mark taking notes if he could.
Whatever, not that he wanted to linger on the thought.
Soon enough the room assignments were given out to each group, Rev took a quick glance at the paper Mark held, room 212. The second floor was a quick ways up the staircase. How cheap was this place? Not even an elevator, could you even call this hotel at that point.
Mark followed behind him continuing to look around at every little thing like he hadn’t ever seen it before, well if anything the disgusting choice for a wallpaper was the most interesting thing about this hotel, but even then Mark’s excessive ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ were starting to irritate him.
Soon enough they stood in front of the door to their room for the night, thank god this was the easiest part, he thought as he scanned the card that was given to the both of them, all he had to do was lay down and sleep the rest of the night away, the thought was enjoyable before quickly being burned and torn to shreds as he stepped in and saw one thing. One bed. One bed!? Was this a joke?
Was god playing a trick on him? How the hell does a school trip manage to give him a room with one bed. They implemented the buddy system but only one bed sat in the room. Fucking hell. His angry and irritation filled thoughts were quickly cut off as Mark bumped into him from behind.
“Ah, what’s wrong?”
He asked instinctively as Rev only stood in the door way, his eyes making their way into the room and noticing the one bed in the center of the room.
“Ooohhh!”
He understood fairly quickly, a smile spread across his lips as he pushed his way past Rev and into the room.
Rev followed in aswell with a grumble as he shoved Mark aside and made his way to the singular bed tossing his bag atop it to assert who would be getting it tonight.
“Fineee, you could’ve just asked, you know.”
Mark exclaimed with a chuckle as he made his way to set his bag on the small table that was also included in the room.
“Well I don’t feel like asking, ‘you know.’” Rev repeated mocking Mark’s cheery tone.
“I also call showering first too.”
Rev added as he began to dig in his bag for a change of clothes, pulling out a worn out band t-shirt, and a simple pair of black sweats.
“Fine, fine, you’re lucky im so nice.”
Mark says playfully with a grin as he glances towards Rev, gaze lingering for a moment too long before turning away and digging in his own bag for his pajamas as the bathroom door shut closed.
♪( ´▽`)
Eventually Mark made his way out of the bathroom as he continued to dry his hair with one of the rooms towels, he was dressed in one those silk pajama sets rich people had in shows that Rev used to watch, he was also surprised he didn’t have robe to go along with it, maybe even a cape to attach to it. He chuckled at the thought and before he could catch himself Mark was already looking his way with a look of astonishment.
“Was that a laugh?”
Mark asked with a widening smile as he made his way to where Rev was laying on the bed.
“A laugh that wasn’t maniacal or sarcastic??”
Mark was close now, too close…Rev could smell the expensive blend of scents that made up his shampoo and conditioner.
“N-no it wasn’t?! Shut up!”
Rev raised his voice as he roughly shoved a pillow in Mark’s face, hell you could consider it a punch with how hard it felt as Mark stumbled back slightly with an ow.
“Ah come on!! I heard it!!”
Mark exclaimed with a still grinning face as he tossed the pillow back at the assailant.
“Just tell me what made it happen!”
Mark pressed further, keeping his distance this time to not have another pillow to the face, or worse and actual fist.
“Nothing!”
Rev yelled with a slight annoyance and embarrassment as he turned on his side away from Mark.
“And I didn’t laugh!”
He made sure to add on so Mark could just shut up.
“Booo…”
Mark said with a dragging of the vowel as he stepped around the bed to be back in Rev’s field of view.
“I’ll figure it out, don’t worry.”
He made sure to add on with a small chuckle.
“Whatever..”
Rev grumbled as he turned away from Mark again, feeling embarrassed and an awful flutter in his stomach that he passed off as annoyance. He knew Mark wouldn’t let something like that go now, especially if he had the idea that he was the reason that caused it.
(_ _).。o○
The moment passed fairly slowly as Mark had tried to recreate his motions to see if Rev would crack another chuckle, but to no avail Rev remained vigilant and ignored the entire antic.
“Fine, fine, but I’ll figure it out eventually Rev~.”
Mark vowed with a teasing tone as he made his way to turn the light off in the room, the room quickly plunging to a pitch black darkness that Mark had no trouble navigating through since Rev hadn’t heard him bump into anything.
Rev presumed he laid onto the floor based on the thud from the wooden flooring and the slight humph that also came with it.
Eventually the silence in the room settled as Rev laid back into the bed’s soft sheets, allowing himself to relax under the comfort of the fleece blankets, his eyes shutting with little to no resistance as the room seemed to lull him to sleep.
“Rev?”
Mark said his name quietly as to not fully ruin the quiet moment in the room, but with Rev it completely bothered him and the moment.
“What.”
He responded with a slight annoyance as he stared up at the ceiling in the pitch black room, goddammit Mark ans his bothersome personality.
“Uhh…can I have something down here?”
Mark asked awkwardly as he heard the slight shift on the floor as he assumed Mark turned on his side.
“The floor isn’t really comfortable without a pillow…or a blanket…or a mattress.”
He heard Mark’s quiet tone as he chuckled with an obvious sound of awkwardness.
“Don’t you sleep in a coffin?” Rev asked with a slight annoyance as he didn’t bother to move from the position he was already in.
“Yeah but that has cushioning, and it’s warm because it’s insulated.”
Mark exclaimed with a slight whine to his voice as it seemed to push Rev’s buttons as he huffed with a sound of defeat.
“Fine. Just. Get on the bed, and shut up.”
Rev muttered as he turned on his side to face opposite of the side Mark would be laying on now. He was met with a sound of surprise and a subtle shift on the bed as someone else laid onto it.
“I’m surprised you’re being so nice-” “Don’t ruin this for yourself.” Mark shut up quick as he settled in beside Rev, eventually the room settled itself into the familiar quiet from before, the only noise either from down the hall or the low hum from the vent above their heads.
Mark felt a bit sheepish now that he settled in and slowly came to the realization he was sharing a bed with someone, this was a first for him after all, this was basically a huge jump in their friendship, and a huge jump for his experience in friendships. Mark couldn’t help but feel awkward, the bed feeling a little too small now, even though there was a decent foot of space between the two of them.
But just feeling Rev’s presence beside him in bed, just felt all too intimate for him, I mean, who wouldn’t feel that way lying next to someone else for the first, he turned his head in Rev’s direction, watching the back of his head quietly, trying anyway to hear what he was thinking. But nothing, just silence, Mark could only lay restlessly in his awkward and embarrassed self. Watching the slow shift as Rev breathed in and out, seemingly already fallen asleep, which wasn’t in any way fair.
((((;゚Д゚)))))))
Eventually sleep slowly started to come to Mark, even if it wasn’t the gentle easy kind that he got whenever Raven snuggled beside him in his coffin. But it would have to do.
He couldn’t help but steal one more glance towards Rev sleeping form, now laid on his back as he breathed awfully heavily for someone who was undead.
His eyes lingered on him for a moment, well, longer than just a moment, it was hard to take his eyes off him, it wasn’t usually often that Mark got to see Rev sleep, especially with such a soft look on his face. Mark was used to the angry expression Rev always held, or the monotone look whenever he didn’t care. But this was entirely something different.
It was a look that Mark couldn’t help but want to see more. His eyes slowly drifting shut, the image of Rev’s gentle look painting a vivid image in his mind, it made him feel a sort of warmth in his cold chest.
Rustle
His eyes fluttered half open as he felt a weight on his chest, his mind still in sleepy haze, ‘Probably just Raven’, he thought as he reached a hand up to pet the cat, his hand being met with hair that was all too long, and too little bone and flesh to be Raven.
He looked down at his chest as he saw the mess of white and black hair, his hand already buried deep in the softness of the strands. Slowly his mind coming to a realization as his eyes widened, a quick spread of heat rushing to his cheeks as his body began to feel all too heavy, and Rev felt all too close, really too close…
What should he do?? He couldn’t wake up Rev, could he? He would probably flip and never want to share a bed with Mark again…
Well he couldn’t move away either. Not that something was stopping him, just that…his body wouldn’t let him…and Rev was weighing his body down so he couldn’t move! Thats why!
Mark continued to stare down at the mob of half white half black hair, his hand unconsciously moving through the strands as swore he could feel his heart racing, because nothing else could explain that drumming in his ears.
As he continued to his gentle movements he felt as Rev pulled closer, and now he swore he could feel his heart clench as he couldn’t help but be pulled in, his body slowly riling down from the shock and excitement of the situation as he slowly felt the warmth that radiated from the two of them being so snuggled together.
It was practically enough to lull anyone to sleep, Mark especially, because this felt a lot more gentle and comfortable than just having Raven snuggled with him. His eyes slowly drifted back to sleep once again. He would deal with the aftermath of this tomorrow, where he knows he’ll be punched pretty hard.
