So many words mean the same thing. Like regret, remorse, contrition, repentance, sorrow, rue, chagrin. A writer knows every synonym and antonym for a word as they weave the story through the symbols of letters. To lament is to express sorrow. To repine is to express dejection.
Shelby felt regret, and grief… though the acceptance that was once there had grown into an angry mass of guilt. Her actions at Oakhurst had followed the intent of revenge… but does revenge remain justified if the one she was avenging now walks beside them to the museum? Does the memory of a monster remain the same if that monster was just as scared as them?

Summary
Abolish Veylocke he felt uneasy about trying to eliminate. The vampire was extremely skilled and quick on his feet, making it an impossible challenge for Pyro to even think of competing against. Doesn't help he's still new to the organisation and not the greatest fighter. He also didn't turn anyone to be warranted with the fate the books laid out. Part of him wished Abolish hadn't stopped appearing in town so quickly, regretting that they weren't able to interview him for his thesis. It was another reason Pyro decided to take this mission. A chance to visit Oakhurst, the subject of his long overdue thesis about town infrastructure. They were still surprised that the organisation let them continue their university studies. If only it were simple enough to multitask in a town like this…

Pyro blinked, his face flushing deeper at the peculiar compliment. The more they looked into the eyes of the man, the more inhuman and familiar he seemed to be. And then it clicked. This wasn’t a man, it was a vampire… and not just any vampire, this one was allowed in the church. Their instincts went into overdrive, trying to run and flee before any harm came to them, “Lord Goldsmith…”
“Hmm? Oh, finally realised?” The vampire’s smile grew, nails slightly digging into their skin as he was locked in place. It felt so ironic, staring into the face of unholy death while standing within the supposed sanctity of a church.

“You talk too much…” Owen’s claws were ripping apart clothes and skin before Avid had so much of a second to breathe, crying out as one dragged itself over his right eye. The pain was too much as he desperately tried to sink further into the corner, to disappear and be back in his room. He was certain he'd be blinded there if he somehow survived this, blood trickling onto his hands as his arse met the ground.
However, a desperate shout and the continued scuffle of vampires filled the cavern but never touched Avid again.
