   Sherlock was unconcerned: he was hardly on good terms with Scotland Yard to begin with, but if they insisted on questioning him regarding the princess’s case, he already had his answers prepared.

   Yes, they had spoken. Yes, she had revealed what she wanted from him. Yes, Sherlock had flatly refused. Under no circumstances was he guilty of preparing for or aiding the act.

   That he had said this or that, and that it had lodged itself in the princess’s mind? It did not matter. Anyone who truly wished to commit suicide did not turn to others for ideas, and his visitor had appeared neither foolish at first glance, nor during the course of their conversation.
