Work Text:

Gerard flopped onto the couch in the van, it had been a long night and his voice sounded like a garbage disposal. His hair was greasy enough to fry chicken and his red eyeshadow was deleted off his face from the sheer amount of sweat and cigarette smoke that clung to him. Why did they have to do a show in ARIZONA during the summer? “You good Gee?” Frank asks as he joins Gerard on the couch. “Do I look good?” He asks rhetorically, his voice gravely like he’s sick or something. “Well you certainly don’t sound good, come on how about I make you some tea?” Gerard nods in response, he knows damn well he should be going on vocal rest. “You alright Gerard?” Ray asks as he steps into the space from going straight to the bunks to put pajamas on. “Why is everyone asking if I’m alright? I feel like garbage and sound worse, what do you not understand?” “Woah, woah there. I’m sorry man, you should really get on vocal rest. I’ll leave you be, there’s no telling how Frank is going to be though.” Speaking of the devil, Frank is there with a mug of throat coat ginger tea with honey just the way he remembers Gerard likes it. “Here you go your highness” Frank says half jokingly as he hands the mug to Gerard who accepts it graciously. He takes a sip and hums softly in a way that says that it’s perfect. He smiles appreciatively. Gerard didn’t know how Frank knew so much about how he liked his tea but it was sweet. Frank not the tea, the tea was just sweet enough because of the honey. Frank sits on the couch beside Gerard and reaches for his phone. “How does pizza sound yall?” He asks the van. The group says a collective “Yes!” To his question including a crisp “yes” from Gerard. The group sits on the couch left to right being Ray, Frank, Gerard, Mikey, and Bob being squished to the edge. Frank orders pizza and Ray turns on a movie from one of the many dvds that they have in the van. It was the last night that they would be packed up like sardines on the couch. They really didn’t have great luck on which van they got for the tour but they made it work. After Gerard got back from getting the food he found Frank sitting in his spot. “Frank, dude could you move?” Frank sighs and moves out of the way letting Gerard sit down and he sets down the pizza boxes on the coffee table.

During the movie Gerard could swear he felt Frank moving closer and closer to him as the movie progressed. Though he was too tired to say anything, aside it was endearing. Frank was also pretty tired, tired from being a menace during the concert as per usual. He leaned on Gerard and ended up falling asleep during the movie. The movie wrapped up and the band started to get over to the bunk room and Gerard had to wake Frank up. “Movies done already?” He asks in his half asleep state.

“Sure is, seems like you are tired.” Frank has a quizzical look on his face before he realized what’s wrong. “Hey, you’re supposed to be on vocal rest” he says in a tired voice. Gerard smiles and ruffles Frank’s hair. “I know, I know. No more shows for a bit, I should be fine.” Gerard glances to the clock which reads 2:14. “You should probably get some rest while you still can. Come on.” He says getting up from the couch motioning for Frank to do the same. The rest of the band around them are getting ready to get some well deserved rest after that show. Eventually everyone is in their bunks either sleeping or trying to. Though for some reason Frank is still awake staring at the ceiling. He sits up and notices that there is no way Gerard is actually asleep. He has seen him sleep enough to know that he’s definitely awake. “Hey Gee, you awake?” He says quietly across the isle. There’s a sigh from Gerard who rolls onto his side. “Unfortunately” he says with an exasperated tone to his voice. Though that really could also be just his voice from being over used. “Could we like… talk or something?” “I mean, sure I guess. What about?” The confidence that Frank had was suddenly gone, he blew it. “N-never mind, we should probably just go to sleep.” “Alright, that’s fine.” Frank goes to sleep with a growing pit in his stomach, he messed everything up didn’t he? Regret fills his mind being the last thing on his mind before he goes to sleep. What if he actually had a chance? He did have a chance and he messed it up.

Notes:

So I don’t usually read let alone write Ferard fic work but I felt like this was a cute idea and had to write it, may or may not write a second chapter to this fic depending on how well it is received.
