Work Text:
Lacey is a practical woman. She has been in her line of work some seven years, and it has taught her how to read a man fast, and know when to flee and when to fight. She lives adjacent to a dangerous world, one her father fully inhabited. He was a dangerous man, and a cruel one, and she avoided his territory while he was alive. With him dead, she need not cut herself so much off from a potential set of clients. Then there’s Calla. Charming, absentminded Calla, who has never judged her. Calla, whose attention is always focused on her cooking, with little time for the affairs of others, but who welcomed Lacey. Her presence made it worth taking a little risk. It wasn’t as though Lacey had ever been fully able to avoid the mafia anyway. People like her heard things, as they sold their bodies for others’ pleasure. The knowledge she gave out upon sufficient payment had led her to meet Calla, in fact. So it was worth it. She had never been fully safe, not once in her whole life. At least now she has company.
