Chapter Text
The torchlight of Gringotts flickered against the subterranean stone, casting long, dancing shadows across the polished obsidian desk of Griphook. Harry sat stiffly in his chair, the oversized fabric of Dudley’s hand-me-downs feeling suddenly like a mockery. He had come to Diagon Alley just looking for a place to stay after blowing up Aunt Marge; he hadn't expected to be pulled into a private sanctuary for a "long overdue inheritance review."
Griphook slid a heavy, silver-rimmed parchment across the desk. A cruel, sharp dagger lay beside it.
"Three drops of blood on the parchment, Mr. Potter," Griphook said, his voice a low, gravelly rasp. "The Ministry tracks your wand, but they cannot track the magic of the Old Blood. Let us see what the visual enchantments have hidden from you."
Harry swallowed hard, picked up the dagger, and nicked the pad of his thumb. He watched, fascinated, as three drops of crimson fell onto the golden surface.
For a second, nothing happened. Then, the blood sank into the parchment like water into sand. Emerald-green and deep-silver ink began to bloom across the page, spiderwebbing out into a massive, intricate family tree that climbed higher and branched wider than Harry ever thought possible.
Griphook leaned forward, his black eyes widening slightly. A low hiss escaped his teeth. "By the Horde..."
"What is it?" Harry asked, a sudden spike of anxiety tightening his chest. "Is something wrong?"
"Wrong? No," Griphook murmured, looking up at Harry with a newfound, unsettling level of respect. "But highly irregular. It seems the wool pulled over your eyes by the Light's leader was thicker than we anticipated. Read it for yourself, Heir Potter."
Harry pulled the parchment closer. His eyes tracked the elegant, flowing script.

Harry stared at the words, his brain short-circuiting. "I... I don't understand. Gryffindor? Peverell? And the House of Black? But Sirius Black is a murderer, he's trying to kill me!"
"Sirius Black is your magical godfather, named so in a blood-bound ritual that makes it impossible for him to willingly harm you without losing his magic," Griphook stated flatly, tapping a long finger against the desk. "Furthermore, as he never had children, he named you his magical heir before his incarceration without a trial. As for Gryffindor... it appears your mother’s muggle-born status was a falsehood generated by a magical block on the Evans line to hide their squib descent."
"A block?" Harry’s voice dropped, a cold, protective anger waking up in his chest. "Who blocked them? And why didn't I know about any of this? Why did I think I only had my trust vault?"
Griphook pulled out another piece of parchment, this one a ledger of transactions.

Harry felt the air leave his lungs. Dumbledore. The kindly old headmaster who sent him back to the Dursleys every summer. The man who told him he was safe there, while he starved in a cupboard under the stairs.
"He's been stealing from me," Harry whispered, his knuckles turning white as he gripped the edge of the desk. "He blocked my magic. He left me defenseless."
"Albus Dumbledore bypassed Gringotts protocol by declaring himself your guardian while the true Potter Will was sealed by order of the Wizengamot, which he happens to lead," Griphook said, a dark smile playing on his lips. Goblins hated thieves, and they especially hated wizards who tried to manipulate their ledgers. "However, Mr. Potter, by the virtues of the Peverell and Gryffindor Foundational Charters, any heir who holds more than three sovereign lines is automatically granted Magical Emancipation to prevent the stagnation of ancient houses."
Griphook reached into his drawer and pulled out three heavy, ornate wooden boxes. He opened them one by one, revealing three distinct signet rings. One bore the Potter crest (a shielding stag), one bore the Peverell crest (a triangle enclosing a circle and a line), and the last bore the rampant lion of Gryffindor.
"You are no longer a minor in the eyes of the magic or the law, Lord Potter-Peverell-Gryffindor," Griphook said, his voice echoing in the small room. "You are a Lord of the Wizengamot. You hold three votes, vast lands, and a historical immunity that even the Minister of Magic cannot touch. Will you accept your rings?"
Harry looked at the rings. For twelve years, he had been a freak, a burden, a boy hidden away in a cupboard. For two years, he had been the weapon of the Light, the "Boy Who Lived," doing whatever Dumbledore expected of him.
But looking at the glowing crests, a new feeling bloomed inside him. It wasn't the reckless bravery he usually relied on. It was a cold, calculated, ancient power. He was Lily's boy, and his mother had died to give him a life, not to let him be a chess piece for an old man.
"I accept them," Harry said, his voice steady and remarkably calm.
He slid the Potter ring onto his right ring finger. It flared with gold light, shrinking to fit him perfectly. Next, he slid the Peverell ring onto his middle finger. A wave of ice-cold magic washed over him, shattering an invisible weight in his chest. He gasped as his vision suddenly sharpened, he could see the magical currents hum in the air, see the silver runes carved into the Gringotts walls. The blocks were breaking.
Finally, he put on the Gryffindor ring. A warmth like wild fire rushed through his veins, balancing out the ice of the Peverell magic.
When Harry opened his eyes, they were no longer just bright green. They burned with an inner, ancient fire. He looked at Griphook, a slow, dangerous smile touching his lips.
"Griphook," Harry said softly, the authority in his voice making the goblin sit up a bit straighter. "I want Dumbledore's access to my vaults cut off immediately. I want a full audit of every Knut taken from me since 1981. And I want to arrange a private meeting with a Gringotts lawyer. It’s time I find out what really happened the night my parents died, and exactly why my godfather is in Azkaban."
Griphook bowed low, his sharp teeth bared in a genuine grin. "It will be our absolute pleasure, My Lord."
