Chapter Text
It just isn’t going to work out.
Eva stared at the text on her phone, as if it would turn into something more favorable if she glared at it long enough.
The breakup text was like a slap to the face.
She’d thought things had been good between the two of them. Thought she’d kissed her girlfriend all the right ways, drew out such pretty noises from her when they did more than kiss.
It certainly felt good to her, but clearly Allison didn’t agree.
She could have at least bothered to tell me that to my face.
A bitter and pettier part of her spoke up, but Eva squashed it down, sitting on the bench to unlace her sneakers, sliding them off her feet. She felt like throwing them against the wall; instead, she placed them neatly underneath the bench.
Eva pulled on her skates, one foot at a time, and laced them up with nimble fingers.
She stood, slipping a bud into each ear, letting the music flow through them drown out her thoughts as she took the ice, letting the familiar sensation under her skates clear her mind.
She glided on the ice, weaving and bobbing. Nothing complex, she didn’t have the energy today.
Even though Eva noticed she’d still managed to attract a small audience, not that she understood why, she was skating around on the ice. Yet, people seemed to find it a novelty in itself.
She chose to ignore them, not sparing them a glance.
After a bit, she decided to get a bit more experimental with her movements, swishing and twirling as she choreographed to the music flowing through her ears.
Eva was turning into a spin when the whoop of the bullhorn startled her, skate catching on the ice as she felt it slide out from underneath her.
