Summary
To unravel the mind of a man-turned-serial killer in early twentieth-century New Orleans, this story begins with a poor, moody, and exhausted teenage Alastor living with his grandmother.
While he tries to build a life for himself from rock bottom, he faces the painful memories of his childhood. Moreover, his mind cruelly stores new memories, which repeat and haunt his mind each time life goes awry for him. An adulthood of jazz, cocktails, the eventual buzz of the radio and, most predictably, the blood he paints the city with. Every year of his life offers some kind of chaos, but he supposes that isn't anything new in the thriving city down by the river; heartbreak, constant grief, the only Blues he never wanted to play.
But the world is just a stage, isn’t it? And a stage is a world of entertainment.
Born in 1899, died in 1933, this is the story of how Mama’s boy turned his own heart stone-cold.
