My Little Stars (Steven Universe AU)

Summary:

It was the end of Spring when four kids had been displaced from Empire City's orphanage and had been moved to Beach City along with other kids. And from many decisions being split and made with adults not knowing what to do with them, there was a certain someone who had made their choice of taking care of them with the help of other gem aliens.

The poor little things wouldn't know it, but there was something special about their new babysitter, Steven Universe. Especially with that gem on his belly, but that's probably just for show . . . . . right?

Chapter 1: A Darkened Fire & Rain (Prologue)

Chapter Text

The little ones couldn't remember it properly, it was a scary feeling after all. Being in danger one moment, and a sudden sharp breeze the next. All the smallest one could recall was the slippery feeling of oil being on the kitchen floor on her bare pale feet and how fast the small fire buzzed.

She was then sat outside with other orphans that were in the house before being covered with a blanket by a pair of arms before a hand was quietly put on her head. "You okay, sweetheart? That must've been scary." they said softly, only for the small girl to nod, the shock still being felt as she was a bit numb in feeling or looking at anyone while the bigger person was quick to get the little child back to her three older siblings who patiently waited for her. The oldest boy was the first to thank the adult before picking up his little sister, holding her close in his pale arms with a tight squeeze. "It's no problem kiddo, just doing as my humans told me." the person answered, their watery wings flapping slightly before zooming off to quickly help the firemen that still needed the extra hands.

The older boy then sighed, adjusting the blanket around the girl to be tighter as he then felt a chill on his back with a raindrop falling on his cheek. It began to drizzle near the backdoor of the ambulance the four sat at while the controlled chaos went on as the boy's other two sisters were still having their check-up for any physical injuries or burns. "You kids are lucky," said the paramedic who treated one of the girls. "It's only a few stings that should go away in a few days."

"But, um, what about the manor, Miss?" the smallest sister heard her brother say, the paramedic didn't exactly say anything yet as she fell asleep, or at least from what she could tell before closing her eyes.

She then woke up again, her head on her brother's lap as they were now in the back seat of a van with a blonde girl in the passenger seat talking with her partner with a bright smile about making music and visiting a town that they both knew.

The girl then sat up with her bed hair covered by a white hoodie as she looked out the window to see a large sign that made it clear to where they were staying:

"Welcome to Beach City~!"

She tilted her head while her sisters argued just behind her while their older brother was trying his hardest to calm the petty war, but it was just background noise as the little blinked before peeking to the front seats. "Uhhh, um, Shep?" she spoke out quietly, the cool-looking driver humming in response with a soft grin while the sun's rays softly streamed into the seats of the van. "Um, why Beach City?"

"Well Mini~ it is full of beaches~!" Shep answered, to the blonde girl's giggles as Mini puffed her cheeks.

"Sheppie!!! Tha's not what I-"

Shep then chuckled before pausing at a red light. "I was just jokin', you're just gonna stay for bit since your house is getting rebuilt." Mini then nodded before sitting back again while her older brother ruffled her brown fluffy fringes.

"It's just two weeks Mini, no need for scardey-eyes yet." he said, hearing his sister whimper before a blush ran up her freckled nose. The girl then peeked outside again, seeing the sites that the new town had to hold before something had caught her eye. It was a young lad, giggling with his friends while wearing a striking pink varsity jacket with a big toothy grin. He held his blue umbrella high above his head, while something else had suddenly disappeared as the van drove passed before honking.

The boy then turned around, waving at Shep and Sadie before the ride sped off on the smooth street. One of two older sisters then had a turn with peeking at Sadie. "Friend of yours?" she asked, to which Sadie nodded.

"Yup, ever since I was a teen like your brother. He's really cool once you get to know him."
