Work Text:
Just as their shift had ended, Nick Wagner had kissed her in the elevator. Her captain. The same guy she had been in screaming matches with. After being impulsive and violent this whole case, Nick had snaked his hand around her waist and kissed her like he was hungry for more. One second he’s breaking down about his fiancée dying in the line of duty, with Morgan there to comfort him, and the next he’s making moves on her?
Morgan, however, was not hungry for more from Wagner. She had been too caught up in the moment to say anything then, but now she felt ill while driving home. Morgan felt nauseous, almost as bad as she felt first trimester with Chloe, and had to pull over while driving so she could puke.
Morgan was not one to vomit, but today she had no choice. Her mind couldn’t slow down her body, and the next thing she knew she was hurling on the edge of the interstate. When Morgan did vomit— as rare as it was— it usually was a sign of something bigger. A sign that internally, Morgan was fighting a battle. In the past, throwing up had been a physical manifestation of shame and guilt she had felt.
Was that what she was experiencing now?
It didn’t make any sense for Morgan to feel guilty about kissing Wagner. They were two consenting adults. Wait.. he initiated it, not her, so did she really consent? She was essentially pinned against the elevator wall so she couldn’t have physically couldn’t have resisted much, even if she wanted to.
Did she want to?
I mean Morgan could do worst right? Her ex was a driving instructor, and her ex from way back when had disappeared on a routine diaper run. Maybe Morgan should just settle at this point. At least Wagner seemed like he could “handle” her, unlike the other guys. At least he wasn’t an international art thief, right?
So why, did Morgan feel so gross and guilty? Why did she want to crawl out of her own skin and hibernate indefinitely in the forest reserve next to the highway where Nick couldn’t find her?
Morgan knew why somewhere in the back of her genius mind. Even her mind which usually failed her in the wake of relationship developments, her mind which always was hyperactive, was quiet for once. Utterly tranquil, except for one small, tiny detail.
Morgan had feelings for Karadec.
And when the thought came to her, the puking stopped. Her stomach settled.
Everything felt right, just for that one second of blissful realization—where her mind was finally able to put the pieces together. And it seemed Morgan had solved another case.
Then, she remembered that Adam was with Lucia. Despite the way he looked at her with all the love in the world in his eyes , Karadec had gotten back with his ex.
And so instead of embracing the dynamic nature of Morgan and Karadec’s relationship, the two were stuck in the past— him by vying for Lucia’s trust again, and her by watching another man she loved slipping through her fingers.
