The Eclipse May Burn Us (9/11 style)

Summary:

Dara and Delta are performing at the Sydney Opera house together! What could possibly go wrong?

Notes:

Hey y’all! I usually don’t like writing RPF, but I noticed a concerning lack of Yuri in the 9/11 Eurovision scene, so I just had to write some! Also it takes place in Australia cause Delta. Enjoyyyyy

— The Yurimaster.

Work Text:

Dara gapes at the large crowd that has come to see them. She couldn’t fathom how much support she had received ever since she and Delta came out about their relationship. Even better, they had been given the opportunity to perform in the Sydney Opera House! Eurovision had truly changed her life for the better. All that was left now was her to sing.

Delta turned her head to Dara.
“Are you ready to start?”
Dara smiled brighter than the stage lights.
“Yes. Let’s.”

The beginning notes of Eclipse played, and the audience exploded into thunderous cheering.
Delta began to sing, but while she was doing that, Dara couldn’t help but notice a… rumbling sound? It kind of sounded like a plane, but it couldn’t be one, right?

Just as Dara joined into the chorus, the rumbling became too loud for Delta to ignore. Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion, and her singing just slightly wavered. The audience started whispering in speculation.

Nonetheless, the two women still kept performing, albeit with hesitation, but the plane noise eventually grew so loud that it became hard to hear the music over it.

“Okay everyone,” Dara said.
“I think there’s a bit of a-“

She was cut off when a single person in the crowd shouted:
“DARA! THERE’S A HIJACKED PLANE INCOMING TO THE SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE! IT’S ON THE NEWS!”

It couldn’t be. It couldn’t be, right? Right? The crowd was shrieking in panic, and they were trying to flee from the building, but there were just too many people at once.

“Everyone please remain caLM-“ Delta began, but never finished.

A plane tore through the ceiling, directly opposite to where Delta and Dara was. Without even thinking, Dara bolted backstage, where there was an emergency exit. She dashed into the cold night air, but not without hearing Delta’s helpless screams when the plane, presumably, crashed into her. The plane had just narrowly missed her.

Dara had avoided death. But Delta hadn’t. She was about to impulsively run back into the Opera House to somehow save Delta when she smelt smoke slithering out of the gaps in the door. Oh god.

Flames could be heard crackling inside the building. Dara fled front the wafting smoke to the front of the Opera House, just as the entire thing burst into flames. Delta. Their dreams. Her life. Everything.

And all she could do is watch it turn to ash.

It was such a beautiful night. The moon was so bright. But now Delta was burning brighter.

She couldn’t be dead. Right? Right?! Please, let her survive. Most plane accidents have at least one miraculous survivor, maybe she could be that survivor? She couldn’t have died that easily. Maybe if she had tried to save Delta-

Maybe Delta is dead because of Dara. She was so fucking selfish. She had the chance to save her. She could’ve saved Delta if she hadn’t just left her to fucking die. If only Dara had never asked her out in the first place, fallen in love, she would be alive. Delta really didn’t deserve her. It was all her stupid, selfish fault.

Dara burst into desperate, wailing tears. The noxious smell of smoke was driving her insane; it was a cruel reminder of what she had lost.

Eurovision was over. And she saw it die in front of her.
