Work Text:
“Hey Isagi it’s spring, you know what we should dooo??” beamed Bachira, practically kicking Isagi’s door down. He was standing in the doorframe looking over Yoichi’s somewhat clean room.
“Bachira, can you at least be a bit careful with the door? What do you wanna do?” Asked Isagi, looking up from his laptop.
“We should clean out your closet for the spring!!” Said Bachira, joining Isagi on his twin bed by practically jumping on him.
“What? Why?”
“Well you know, to get rid of winter clothes, or just old clothes overall.” rambled Meguru, looking at Yoichi, whose attention was back at that laptop screen.
“Why? Clean out your closet, leave mine alone.” He said, continuing his work.
“Come onnn, it’s gonna be fun!! You should take a break from that screen anyways.” continued the older one.
“Fine.” answered Yoichi, finally setting his laptop down, and getting up from his bed.
“YAY!!!” practically screamed Bachira, jumping up from the bed and opening the closet doors. He was met with a ton of clothes just shoved onto the shelves and into the drawers. Isagi wanted to protest, by saying that it was too early for this, and they still have lectures to get to. But Bachira didn’t care. They began organising by making sorting piles, one for the clothes that are not needed anymore, the winter clothes, and the ‘keeping it’ pile. They had started from the top, Bachira was taking out clothes, giving them to Isagi, who then decided to which pile should the specific piece of clothing go.
“Hey look at this, I don’t remember you having this.” Said Bachira, tossing the mysterious black thing towards Yoichi, who was sitting on the floor. Catching it, he unfolded it, and his heart dropped.
“What is it? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” chuckled Bachira, continuing to go through his clothes.
Right there, in Yoichi’s arms was Rin’s old hoodie, the one he gave him back when they were still dating. Isagi still remembers the day they broke up and he shoved the black zip up hoodie with a little owl embroidery on the sleeve into the furthest possible corner of his closet. The smell of Rin’s cologne still lingered. It was barely noticeable, and someone, who wasn't familiar with it like Bachira wouldn’t feel it. But Isagi had spent his summer days constantly smelling this perfume, he would recognise it anywhere. He was still frozen in place, just looking over the hoodie with wide eyes.
“Isagi are you okay?” asked Bachira, leaning down to the floor, to finally see what shocked his best friend that bad. Looking over the hoodie he recognised the embroidery.
“Wait, isn’t that…Rin-chan’s hoodie?..” whispered Bachira, sitting down near Isagi, wrapping his arm around him.
“It is. It doesn’t matter anymore anyways.” He said, tossing it to the ‘throwing out’ pile.
“Hey hey, now wait, what if he wants it back?” Bachira said, taking it out of the pile, and putting it aside. It doesn’t really fit in any of the categories that they had picked out.
“If he wanted it back, he should have taken it back four months ago!” exclaimed Isagi, taking the hoodie, bunching it up and throwing it back into the ‘throwing out’ pile. His eyes were wet with unshed tears, that he tried so hard to hold back, until he felt his best friend's hands around him. He felt as if the dam had broken and all of his emotions were flowing out at this exact moment.
“I miss h-him so much, Bachira.” Said Yoichi, bawling his eyes, burying his face into his shoulder. He felt his hands patting his own back, in an attempt to calm him down.
“I know, it’s okay, let it all out.”
They stayed like that, until the storm had calmed down. And they decided to continue with their sorting later on. Some time after, Bachira had to go to their university for something, and Isagi was left alone. He was hugging his knees, sitting on his bed, looking over the piles of clothes that they left on the floor. Rin’s hoodie laid on top, as if mocking Isagi, who tried so hard not to pay any attention to it.
“Ah, fuck it, I don’t care at this point.” Mumbled Isagi, getting up from his bed, walking over to the clothes, and putting on Rin’s hoodie. The zipper was broken, and it didn’t zip up until the end, but it was better than nothing at all. It was a bit oversized on him, but it felt right. It always felt right wearing Rin’s clothes. He went back to bed, even though it was almost time for his first lecture of the day, he felt so bad, that he just decided not to go anywhere. He texted Bachira, that he won’t be attending today, and just went to sleep. Maybe it would help him to feel better.
He woke up from his phone blowing up from Bachira’s texts. He looked at the time – it was almost three in the afternoon. Wow. When Isagi didn’t answer his texts, he started calling him, and that was when he finally picked up the phone.
“What do you want, I'm sleeping.” mumbled Yoichi, annoyed that he was awoken from his slumber.
“Well sleeping beauty I have news, and they are not good.” Said Bachira into the phone.
“What is it? Quickly, spit it out, I want to go back to sleep.”
“English prof. Made us do group work and he assigned me, Reo and Rin together and we’re coming over to work on the project. I'm so sorry.” Blurted Bachira, waiting for Isagi to answer.
“What. When are you gonna be here?” Asked Isagi, immediately getting up from his bed.
“An hour or so away, Reo still has a lecture left, and I don't wanna go to our apartment with Rin alone.” rambled Bachira
“Okay, that’s fine, I just won’t come out. Tell them I'm out or something.” muttered Isagi, hanging up and going back to sleep.
When he woke up he heard familiar voices coming from the living room, mostly it was just Reo and Bachira talking about something probably unrelated to the project. And then he heard Rin snap and scream at both of them to just do their work quietly. Bachira probably did as he told him to, and said that he was out. It was so weird, hearing his voice in the apartment, but it wasn’t directed at him. He wondered how did Rin even agree to study in his and Bachira’s apartment. He felt his eyes stinging again. Why does he still feel this way after four months? He heard Bachira saying that he will get something from his room, but Isagi heard footsteps coming to his room. The door opened and Bachira came in.
“How are you? And– wait, what are you wearing?” Meguru stopped, noticing the hoodie that was over Isagi’s shoulders.
“Shut up. What do you need?” asked Yoichi, ignoring his questions
“Nothing, just wanted to see how you are doing. You know if you miss him he’s right th–” Isagi, not letting his best friend finish that sentence, covered his mouth with his hand. That's when they heard a voice coming from the living room.
“Bob-cut where are you? Did you fall asleep in your room or something?”
Isagi froze when he heard the familiar voice and footsteps coming closer. The thing is, Rin knows which room is Isagi’s and which is Bachira’s. And when he opened the door to Meguru’s room and saw that it was empty, he went to check the neighbouring room. Which was Isagi’s room, in which he currently was standing. Wearing his old hoodie. He looked at Bachira in horror when he heard the door opening, and saw such a familiar figure in the doorframe. He looked at Rin, and their eyes locked. Isagi could swear the time stopped when he looked into his eyes again, they were still as mesmerising as always. Isagi could get lost in those eyes. He saw the way they wandered lower, looking at his clothes with recognition.
“Yoichi–” was all Rin could say, before he was cut off by Bachira being pushed out the door, and it being slammed and locked right in front of their faces. They stood in front of the door for a moment before going back to the living room, where Reo was sitting, probably hearing all the commotion but choosing not to do or say anything about it. Isagi just stood by the door, his heart hammering in his chest, and his throat felt dry. Tears were just flowing down so much, he couldn’t even control them. He was wondering if Rin was hurting as much as he was right now. Yoichi wanted to throw up from all the emotions he was feeling at the same time, but he was debating if it was worth leaving his room and risking seeing Rin again. It’s been four months since their fight, since they said words they never meant, since Isagi just closed the door and left. Shouldn’t he have already moved on?
Yoichi snapped out of the trance he was in when he heard the front door clicking, and goodbyes being said. He quickly unlocked the door and took a peek. What he didn’t expect was to see Rin standing there, and no sight of Meguru or Reo. He heard a ping from his phone, unlocking it, he received a text from Bachira that said “You will not go anywhere until you make up, and yes, I took your keys as well." He was ready to lock his door again, but he couldn’t do it in time, and Rin has already put his foot between the door and the frame, to prevent Isagi locking himself again. By the time he realised, Rin was already in his room.
“Yoichi.” whispered Rin, as he looked into his eyes.
“Go away, Rin, I don’t want to talk.” muttered Isagi, turning his gaze away.
“I can't, Bachira locked us in here. Yoichi, please just listen to me.” Pleaded Rin, taking Yoichi’s hand in his.
“No, just let me go, take your stupid hoodie with you and go. I’ll give you a spare key, just go.” stated Isagi, trying to undo the zipper, but since it was a bit broken, it got stuck, and Isagi had to take it off like a regular shirt. After throwing the hoodie in Rin’s face he opened his bedside table and took a spare key to the front door. “Here, just leave.”
Isagi looked up to glance at Rin for the last time, and his heart broke a little. He looked like a kicked kitten. Isagi never saw Rin make that face, he noticed the way his mouth opened and closed, as if he wanted to say something, but the younger one just turned around and closed the door behind him. Yoichi waited for relief to kick in, but it never came.
That's when the door opened sharply and Rin stormed in, yanking Isagi’s arm to get him closer and embrace him.
“Wha– Rin!” yelped Yoichi, as he was pulled into a hug. He didn’t want to admit it, but he instantly melted in his arms.
“I’m not letting you go this time or ever Yoichi, I will not make the same mistake twice. I’m so sorry for everything I've said that day, and I have regretted saying that ever since we fought. I love you, Yoichi, and I'm never letting you go again.” whispered Rin, just so only Isagi would hear him.
“Rin.. I’m so s-sorry..” he practically choked on his own words as he was sobbing into Rin’s shoulder , wrapping his arms around him, holding onto his shirt like he would disappear. He felt the arms around him tighten before they pulled away to look at each other. Isagi felt Rin's hands cup his cheeks, wipe away his tears and then Rin finally kissed him. The kiss was so sweet and gentle, if it were possible, Isagi would already be a puddle. His lips tasted like caramel and yoichi couldn’t get enough, he moved his hands from his back to the nape of Rin’s neck, burying his fingers in the soft hair of his now boyfriend.
“You taste like caramel..” murmured Isagi, when they finally pulled away from each other. “I can’t get enough.” he whispered, before pulling Rin in for another kiss. He could feel Rin smiling into the kiss, his hands moving from Yoichi’s face to his waist, pulling him even closer. When they pulled away, Rin instructed Isagi to stay where he was, while he himself disappeared to the hallway. When he came back, he was holding something black, that turned out to be the hoodie that Isagi threw at him 10 minutes prior to this.
“Wear it.” Said Rin, handing him the hoodie. Which Yoichi gladly put on. He once again came up to Rin, cupping his face with one hand, while the other rested on his shoulder.
“I love you, Rin..” said Isagi, pulling in for another kiss.
“I love you too, Yoichi.”
