Mumbo turned back to his room, stepping inside as his friend fought against the hands tearing him away.
”I’m fine. Nothing’s going to happen, I’ll wake up and see you, like always. Good night, Grian.”
Mumbo pulled the covers over himself and fell asleep.
He did not wake to the heat of his home burning around him. He did not resurface at the screams of his friends. He did not pull back the covers, not once open his eyes, as the flames reached him and his dreams.
Mumbo fell asleep for the last time.
