There was an outside signal. One neither of them had ever seen before.
“Are we matching this to any of the ones near us?”
“None. No hidden government networks, all of them are in the other list. This one.. it says it's coming from.. your house.”
“That’s not possible. It’s just not.. unless..” Fingers shaking, he stood up from his computer desk with a masked smile and a light, joyous shudder. “It could be the connection we were looking for just a week ago. I thought it would be impossible..”
Quickly leaning back over his desk, he quickly started typing tracing commands into his computer, analyzing this new network. It was right at his exact coordinates.
“Pull up the new universe factor we invented.”
“Yes sir.”
Just like that, appearing right under the coordinates, was a universe tag. Every other network on Earth listed themselves as ‘Universe 1.’
But this new one? Universe 0.
“I did it. I’m a genius… WE DID IT! IT’S REAL! I KNEW IT!” He laughed with joy, sitting himself back down at his desk. “..it’s really real. We did it.”
“You did it. Not me.”
“Ah, don’t discredit yourself, you’ve always been such a big help to me. This is our achievement, and all that’s left to do is reap the rewards of our hard labor.”
