Work Text:
Steam drifted through the small bathroom, fogging the mirror until the only visible thing was the faint outline of two toothbrushes in a cup.
Cassandra sat on the closed lid of the toilet, her knees pulled up to her chest, chin resting on folded arms.
Behind the opaque plastic shower curtain, the water hissed steadily against the tiles. Stephanie’s silhouette blurred through the plastic as she reached for the shampoo, her voice easily cutting through the noise of the rushing water.
Stephanie said over the water, “You can't just keep hanging out in here while I'm showing. I'm serious, Cass.”
Cassandra shifted slightly on the seat, her gaze fixed on the blurred silhouette of the other Batgirl, and gave a sleepy reply, “Can.”
“No, you cannot.”
“Uh-huh,” was the reply.
“You know what your problem is? Everyone lets you get away with things because you’re cute.”
“Mmmph,” Cassandra offered, shifting her weight slightly. Her mouth twitched into a faint smile against her arms.
The sound of the water squeaked to a halt, leaving only a heavy drip from the faucet.
“Alright, I’m done. I’m coming out,” Stephanie announced.
Cassandra tilted her head slightly, her dark eyes trained to the curtain. She offered another sound, this one a little higher pitched than the first, almost like a contented purr escaping her lips. “Uh-huh.”
Stephanie pushed the curtain aside just enough to peek through. “Go away, I’ll be naked.”
“Uh-huh.”
“I mean it.”
“Uh-huh.”
A dramatic sigh echoed from behind the curtain. “You know, if this was literally anyone else, I’d be calling you a total perv.”
Cassandra nodded solemnly, entirely unrepentant. “Makes sense.”
The curtain rings rattled loudly as Stephanie slid them back, stepping out of the tub onto the bathmat completely naked. Cassandra handed her the towel from the rack, which she used to dry her hair rather than covering herself, entirely unbothered by Cassandra’s presence.
Stephanie narrowed her eyes accusingly while drying her hair. “Don’t look so proud of yourself.”
Cassandra’s mouth curved upward.
Stephanie let out a loud groan. “If Tim did this, I’d throw a toaster at him.”
Cassandra nodded solemnly. “Tim is weird.”
“You’re r weird one!”
Cassandra just shrugged.
Stephanie tossed the wet towel at her face. Cassandra caught it easily without moving from the toilet seat.
“You’re lucky I love you,” Stephanie muttered.
“Lucky.”
Stephanie looked at her for a second longer before laughing under her breath. “You know, normal people don’t spend this much time sitting in the bathroom together.”
“Fair point.”
For a while neither of them spoke. Stephanie brushed through her damp hair while Cassandra remained perched close by, content simply being there.
Eventually Stephanie glanced sideways. “You waiting for the shower?”
Cassandra shook her head.
Stephanie asked even when she knew the answer, “Then why are you here?”
Cassandra answered instantly, like it was obvious.
“You’re here.”
END.
