Summary
It is a truth universally knowledged that a man who lives his life through self-indugence alone, might get induced into deathly boredom. At least, that is what Mr. William Ryder realizes after spending his days at Rome drinking wine, painting and reading poetry while looking at Rome's sunsets, without being able to completely forget about Mary Bennet's hurtful (yet extremely polite and full of good wishes) rejection of his proposal.
After completing a full month at the city without making any new acquaintance (his Italian was not as fluent as he had predicted) and trying to escape Ms. Caroline Bingley undesired glances from across the ballrooms, he decides that it might be a better idea to return to England, establish his permanent residence in London and accept defeat.
That is, until something greater changes his fate.
