Robin Bird

Summary:

Poem of Richard John Graysons life. Angsty summary.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

Born on the day of spring

His mothers bird- acrobatic, lively, gentle.

Utterly ruined from the day he was born

The circus was a cover for The Court.

He'd become their assassin at 8 years old, as soon as his parents were killed.

Or become Batman's ward: not truly adopted or loved at all

Thrown into juvy

Across the globe, but repurposed

No longer to perform or adventure, not how he would want to travel.

But still wearing his mothers colours

Only strapped with sharp batarangs instead of dull rope

There was never a safety net a day in his life.

Graysons child: Performer

Batman's Ward

Titans Leader

Slade's apprentice.

His mantle was gone

His support fired him like a co-worker

His colours are gone

Replaced for a blue that doesn't even match his childhood sky

Monochrome darks

A loss of life

The robin bird was pulled away from him

The children of Robin doomed to die.

Associated with violence and despair

With Gotham

Heroics

Comfort

But not for him.

In a double city of Gotham- a traveller sticking to the familiar

His new familiar

But this spider isn't what he'd find on the train

His dad wasn't here to get it away

It would approach him.

And he froze, but at least he didn't scream.
