Power Dynamics

Summary:

Reigen offers some educational trivia about psychic powers. Or maybe he's just flirting.

Notes:

Basically, I feel like Reigen would have a hard time admitting to a significant other that he's not a psychic less because he's afraid they'll spread the word and hurt his business and more because he overuses lies about his "powers" for excuses—

*Reigen stops short outside the front door of his apartment looking grim* "Hrrmmm...as I suspected, someone's laid a dangerous curse on this place. I'll have to go in and dispel it. No matter what, even if you hear odd noises, don't open that door until I tell you it's safe." *he runs inside and frantically starts cleaning because the place is a mess*

—and for pickup lines...

Work Text:

“Did you know that psychic power can be transferred?” asked Reigen.

He was affecting a lofty air, glancing at you only out of the corner of his eye, a knowing grin on his face. You couldn’t help but smile back. Not five minutes ago he’d made the excuse of “extending his protective mental barrier” in order to slip his arm around your shoulders, and you suspected a pattern.

“Really?”

“Oh, oh yes, mm-hmmm. Though, generally speaking, you can only move it in small amounts.” He pinched his thumb and forefinger together to illustrate just how small. Then, of course, to make sure you could see it, he had to cuddle you closer. “So even though the method of transfer itself is fairly simple, it requires a lot of repetition over extended periods of time.”

Despite the confidence of his manner, his cheek, when it brushed against yours, was warm and slick with sweat. How very Reigen. You had to bite back a giggle.

“Well, you’ve got to tell me how it works.”

His entire face lit up with triumph.

“It’s—like I said, it’s very simple,” he babbled excitedly. “The base principle is essentially about sharing, you know, in order for the psychic power to move between two people it can’t be the only thing that, uh, that bridges the gap. Emotional connection is, obviously, is very important, but in order to—to create a conduit, for the psychic power to travel across, there must be a physical connection too, the two forms joined together, skin-to-skin, and even—even an exchange, of, oh, I dunno, of fluids—

You shivered.

Reigen felt it, and gulped nervously, but the look on your face dispelled his fear. Letting go of the side-hug, he instead whirled to face you. His hands gripped your shoulders. His face pressed close to yours.

“You wanna give it a try?” he exhaled against you.

“Okay,” you whispered back, sliding your hands up his chest.

Reigen began to close in, but with agonizing slowness, his breath hot on your face but his lips still never quite making contact. They lingered barely a quarter inch from your own. Then they darted away, murmuring into your ear.

“Though, like I said, it can only be transferred in small increments...” Fingers trailed seductively down your spine. “So it might take a lot of kisses before you start to feel any effec—”

PFFFFFFAHAHAHAHH!!!

Reigen jumped.

Your hands had convulsed into fists around his shirt collar, and you shook as you buried your face in the crook of his neck, unable to stop laughing. Your face was tear stricken when you were finally able to meet his bewildered gaze.

“I—oh my god—I th-thought you meant sex,” you gasped, chuckles still struggling to burst from your throat. “ ‘Two forms joined’? ‘Exchange of fluids?’

Reigen flushed crimson, the sweat becoming a tidal wave.

“I...I-I-I-I-I—I—”

“It’s okay, it’s okay.”

You pressed a quick smooch to his cheek—so salty—for reassurance. Then, because The Greatest Psychic Of The 21st Century looked like he needed a break if not a full rain check, you stepped back.

Well, half-stepped, before the grip on your shoulders tightened.

“W-w-well, uh, c-come to think of it,” Reigen managed, clearing his throat and attempting as solemn an expression as his flaming blush would allow, “you...m-may be on to something...”
