It was 2:30 AM and the silence in the hospital was loud, some nurses from the nightshift were taking care of some patients while the others were talking shit about dayshift nurses and how the 25 year old resident should pay attention to them. Dr. Kitazato was on his desk, with his head on a capybara plush that he uses with his kids patients and his console playing a dancing game that his sister recommended to him. Today the hospital wasn’t busy at all, the only thing going on was an emergency surgery, but he was still there just doing nothing.
The lights of the hospital suddenly turned red and a loud noise sounded on all the corners of the buildings. The nurses running on the hallways, the doctors footsteps getting louder, and Kira was no exception.
The floor of the operation room was flooded with a red liquid, the doctors were panicking, the beep of the machine getting more and more loud until the monitor showed a straight line. Kira couldn’t move, his body was glued on that floor looking at someone losing their life. His hands were shaking, his breath getting heavier…somehow his legs moved and he ran away from that room.
He woke up.
Hands shaking, heavy breathing, his hair more messy than usual, and the light of the moonlight illuminating his tired brown eyes. Kira scanned his room as if he were looking for the soul of that one patient. He looked at his partner “Toshiya” who was waking up from all the movement caused by Kira’s nightmare. “Hey Kira, what’s wrong?” Sumi asked in the most sweet voice possible.
“It was…just a nightmare.” Kira said with those sad tired eyes he usually has.
Toshiya sat on the bed, grabbing Kira’s hand before speaking, giving him the comfort he deserves. “Tell me sweetheart, what happened in your dream?”
“I was in the hospital… there was a patient who needed emergency surgery.” Kira stopped talking for a moment which Sumi used to hug him and lie down. “But something went wrong and I was there but I couldn’t do anything.”
Kira put his head on Toshiya’s chest, his breathing calming something inside him. The warmth of his touch protects him like someone protecting the life of who they love the most. “It’s okay love, nobody died.” Sumi took a pause appreciating the features of the doctor, distracting him from what he’s about to say. “Let’s take some rest, you had a rough day.” Toshiya said before giving Kira a sweet kiss on his forehead. “Love you.”
“Love you too.” Kira said low enough for no one to hear but loud enough for Sumi to hear, Toshiya laughed a little knowing that his boyfriend usually never expresses his own emotions.
