Chapter 1: New Place

Chapter Text

As the car moves, a plot of land with tall grass and a beautiful sunset lighting it up moves away from view and a small town appears instead. It was a long drive with a lot of complaining from father, mostly just out loud mumbling to himself that his job made him relocate to a different place saying it’s such a hassle but couldn’t turn it down because if he did, he’d get fired.

Father’s been really moody and kind of mean ever since Mommy died, I never meet her but every time he drinks this juice? adult water? I don’t really know what it’s called but every time he drinks it he always talks about her and yells at me. Sometimes he hurts me, but that’s only sometimes! Well, he has been meaner in general recently but that’s only because he’s mad at his job, not me, at least, I think.

I think he’s also mad because I have to go to this thing called ‘school’, something about how since I’m 6 years old, I’m required to go and he doesn’t want me to go since it’s expensive, whatever that word means!

We drove past many houses to get to our new one, every one of them kind of felt weird to me, all of the windows were pitch black with no light even though it only just turned night. It reminded me of when my father came home one day and didn’t turn the lights on when he came in, going straight to my room instead of going to his. I think that was the first time I passed out from pain, it only happened two other times after that though.

I hugged my owl plushie a little tighter, it only had one eye but the lady who gave it to me said that owls symbolize protection and if I get scared it’ll protect me from my fear, so I bring it to me everywhere!

“Out of the car” Father grumbled loudly to me as he got out of the driver's seat. I hopped out, quickly going to the front door to get out of his way. He opened the door pointing to a room and waving me inside as I stepped in and practically ran to my new room. I closed the door, making no noise as it shut (I had a lot of practice being quiet!) and sat on the floor.

Father said there were going to be movers here when we got here and to not get in the way, so I just sat there tightening the pinkish purple ribbon I tied around my owl’s neck. I used to use the ribbon to tie my hair up, but it looked better on my owl! Also, Father didn’t like it when I wore it because it used to be Mommy's.

After the movers put my mattress and wardrobe in my room and left, Father threw my things in the room and quickly left, loudly shutting the door. The sound made me flinch a little, but I powered through and crawled over to the things Father threw in. It was mostly just my clothes, but I also had a blanket, pillow, and a clock! My clothes (and wardrobe) were gifted to me by his grandmother before my father cut ties with her so my clothes looked really cool! I did have to learn to clean them since Father said he didn’t have time to clean them, but it was fine!

I folded my clothes and put them in my wardrobe, setting my clock next to it. The clock told me it wasn’t that late, but Father would get mad at me if I left so I just layed down on my mattress and tried to go to sleep, shaking from the cold.

New residents, huh? Such a pain and their humans, disgusting.

At least it’ll be easier and more fun to scare them off, this place belonged to us monsters not some humans. Flame said there was a child and children are far easier to scare so we’ll start with them. Plus, if a child is scared of their new hometown the parents would want best for their children and move as soon as possible, especially if we show them why their child was scared.

We’ll have to start tomorrow though; the humans are probably asleep so we can’t do anything at the moment. We can use this time to plan though; we may have done this routine many times before but if we keep doing the same formula, we’ll get bored and that crime is far more of a pain than some humans. “Does anyone have any information on the child, see what they can be scared of?”

“Do they look like someone scared of a monster in their closet or under the bed?” Spoke said, almost stepping over the line of talking in a normal volume and yelling as he giggled at his own joke.

“I only saw them for a moment before they ran into the house” Flame said in response, “Bro, I’ve never seen any human look like what they look like”

“What is that supposed to mean?” Parrot asked, he never is really interested in these plans, but he seems interested in this.

“Bro, they have white hair and purple eyes”

“Purple eye?!”

“Well, not purple, it’s like a mix of blue and red”

“So purple.”

“Kind of, bro, I don’t know how to explain it”

“Oh! I heard about those kinds of humans!” Jumper says jumping into the conversion as everyone turned their faces to look at her. “It’s a rare condition that stops the melanin in humans to reduce or to stop producing, making it so there is lighter pigmentation in the hair, skin, and eyes!” Jumper explained with an enthusiastic tone.

“I don’t get it” Spoke said, Spoke has the least knowledge of humans here so it makes sense he wouldn’t get it.

“Just imagine if a voidling was all white instead of all black”

“Oh! I get it now! How does this help to scare them?”

“I don’t know”

“Whatever, since we have no information on the child, we'll continue planning when we do, does that sound like the plan for today?”

“Yes Mane.” Everyone says in unison as they go off to their own house.

This might be more difficult than he thought.
