Curse of the Dreamer

Summary:

Xelqua has always been cursed with dreams.
Dreams of what once was, haunting him, screaming at him, leaving him hollow.
This was just another one of those dreams.

Work Text:

Xelqua just watched as the world burned.

He watched as EVO, his home, his server, everything he ever loved and worked so hard for, died. Xelqua forced himself not to cry. To the Watchers, crying was weakness.

And weakness meant punishment.

So the player-born watcher just stared, watching the chaos unfold through he purple haze of his blindfold, ash clinging to his feathers and smoke scraping his throat and lungs.

Xelqua then sensed someone behind him. He turned around, but immediately regreted it.

“Taurtis?” Xelqua said, barely able to breathe at the sight of his friend.

He was supposed to be dead.

He was dead.

Seeing Taurtis in front of him was like seeing a ghost or a fairy. Unreal.

Taurtis opened his mouth to say something, when-

A flash of steel, a pained cry, red-and-blue headphones falling to the ground along with a splatter of blood.

Taurtis fell to the ground, his eyes lifeless and his blood staining his blue shirt, turning it a queasy purple. A watcher stood with an unnaturally wide grin where Taurtis fell, the blood of Xelqua’s fallen friend splattering their marbled silver skin.

Xelqua jolted out of bed, panting and frantically looking around at the blank white walls of his room.

He sighed, calming down.

Just a nightmare.

Just… a memory.

The player-born watcher got out of bed, putting on his purple cloak. He headed for the door, then paused, taking a glance at the mirror.

Xelqua could’ve sworn he saw a flash of blue and red.

He shook his head,

Xelqua opening the door and going through.

“Get it together, Gri…. Xelqua. He’s gone.” He ordered himself.

“He’s gone.”

SOMEWHERE  FAR,  FAR  AWAY…

A man with red-and-blue checkered headphones placed the last block on his house.

He huffed, glancing at the setting sun with a sad smile.

Another day on a lost server.

He thought wistfully, entering his newly finished house.

He sighed, taking off his headphones and placing them next to his bed. He looked up at the framed picture on the wall, wishing he could go back in time, just to freeze in that moment forever.

Everything was so simple then.

He stared at the two smiling faces in the old photo. Himself, and…

He placed a hand over the picture.

“I’ll find my way back to you, Grian.” He promised.

He hoped.
