In Absentia

Summary:

While out on a mission, Beau receives a letter from Yasha.

Beauyasha Week 2026 Day 4: Hurt/Comfort

Notes:

The “hurt/comfort” of this is that they’re apart and they want to be with each other, but… as is often the case, duty calls…

Work Text:

Beau,

Wherever you are, I hope this letter finds you well. Things have been rather busy back home, and folks are talking.

Seems that there’s some unrest regarding the Assembly. I’m assuming that has something to do with what you and Caleb are up to.

I’m currently planning to head up to the Blooming Grove to keep Caduceus company. It’s been a while since I saw him, and I’m sure that even he’s feeling lonely in spite of his family being there. We all know that as much as he loves them, he loves the Mighty Nein equally.

I’m worried. It’s been quite a while since you left. And sure, I could just use our sending stone to chat, but knowing you, you’re involved in matters that involve secrecy. And I’d only distract you. I’d hate to be the cause of something horrible befalling you, thus why I haven’t been using it.

But I have faith in you and Caleb and what you’re doing. And I’ll keep waiting for as long as I need to.

Just please come back to me in one piece. Both of you. I can’t afford to lose my family again.

With love,

Yasha

The letter ends there.

How thoughtful of Yasha to send one.

And no wonder she hadn’t been using the sending stone. Makes sense.

I wish I could come home soon, Yash. But…

“Are you almost ready, Beauregard?”

Caleb’s voice catches her attention from the tent entrance, reminding her of what they’re about to do.

Thanks to intelligence provided by the Grim Verity, the target was a device located in the Shadowfell that would be used in conjunction with similar devices in the Feywild and Marquet to further the machinations of Ludinus Da’leth and the Ruby Vanguard.

Their mission was to destroy it, with other groups assigned to handle the other devices on their end.

Sigh…

“Yeah, be right there.”

Beau reluctantly folds up the letter and slips it into one of her pockets.

The comfort of home will have to wait. She just prays that Yasha will be as patient as always.

Thanks for the letter though, Yasha. It’s making me feel better about my chances. I promise I’ll be back soon.
