Seeing Red

Summary:

Something goes wrong during a job Beau’s on. Yasha goes to find the aftermath.

Beauyasha Week 2026 Day 5: Blood

Work Text:

Yasha should have gone down the stairs right from the jump.

Otherwise, she wouldn’t have waited until hearing the telltale sounds of harsh combat coming from below for her to be spurred into action, ignoring the complaints of the barkeep behind her.

Moreover, she shouldn’t have let Beau go alone. But it was at her insistence.

“This shouldn’t take long,” is what she had said.

That was ten minutes ago.

And now she’s clearly in trouble.

She had a bad feeling right from the moment they stepped in here.

Beau had a contact that she wanted to speak with regarding some intel, and the meeting place was one of the seedier dive bars along the border of Zadash.

And in spite of knowing that they could handle anything thrown their way, given what had already come before, Yasha still couldn’t shake off that feeling of wrongness.

Sure enough, she was proven right.

The sounds of fighting are starting to quiet down as she nears the lowest level of the basement.

As the sound grows quiet, her sense of smell is heightened.

Blood. Lots of it.

Oh no.

I swear, if they…

Yasha draws Scaldsaber and the blade goes aflame. The moment the corridor is lit, she can spot a closed door in front of her.

Naturally, Yasha darts for it. And in her blind rage—

SMACK!

—the door suddenly crashes open, and she is sent flying.

What the?!

And not just the door is somehow on top of her, but a body as well.

“Yash?!”

The sound of Beau’s voice, strained and out of breath, but very much alive.

Yasha pushes the door and the body off of her and gets to her feet. And what she's greeted with… is the sight of her wife being a bloody mess, gashes along her limbs and sides.

“Oh no…”

Beau’s already putting her hands up.

“Relax, babe. I’m okay. Most of this blood ain’t mine.”

Yasha blinks before taking another look around the room she just stepped into.

There are six other individuals on the floor, all dead.

She’s barely able to comprehend the scene as Beau grabs some rope and binds the wrists of the man that she kicked out the door, the same one that had inadvertently caused Yasha to fall.

“I see you got your guy.”

Beau’s still got that smug look on her blood-streaked face as she walks towards Yasha.

“See? Told you… I’m…”

That’s all she manages to get out before she stumbles and falls unconscious. Yasha is only barely able to catch her before she hits her head on the stone floor.

Godsdammit, she overdid it again.

Shaking her head, Yasha uses her healing hands to mend what meager wounds she can repair before hoisting the other unconscious figure over her shoulder, while still carrying Beau in her other arm.

“Next time, I’m coming with you. And you’re not stopping me.”

Even in her unconscious state, Beau is smiling. And mumbling something. Clearly, she heard her.

Maybe she’s in agreement.

She better be, after giving her yet another scare like that.
