Summary
It occurs to him, as he leaves the parking lot, that he should probably be more upset than he is.
Not because he didn’t love her–because god, if he did anything, it was love her–but because he doesn’t really feel anything.
He’s exhausted.
He doesn’t have much left in him. He doesn’t have much left for him, either.
That’s probably not a coincidence.
The thought doesn’t surprise him when it appears. What if you just crashed your car on the way home?
The thoughts didn’t surprise him anymore. They did, at the start. Not anymore. Now, they’re almost comforting.
