“I could kill you, right here and right now.” Yooyeon was breathing heavily, watching as Nien swallowed against the blade she held against her neck. She watched the beads of sweat roll down her forehead and shook her head furiously at the smirk on the vampire’s face. Fangs out and ready to bite but fear definitely wasn’t what Yooyeon was feeling. “Stop trying to charm me.”
“Don’t flatter yourself, I am not trying to do anything.” Nien said snarkily, still looking like she had the upper hand but the twitching of her ear and short look around the area was enough for her to finally deflate.
Yooyeon straightened her back, dropping her knife to the ground while still very much straddling the vampire.
“Come on now, we know this little dance. It’s actually embarrassing how oblivious your fellow hunters are to what’s actually goung on between us.”
“Don’t say it so loudly.” Yooyeon put her hand over Nien’s mouth and looked around like the paranoia dragon was ready to burn her to ashes. All the woman under her did was snort and gently grab Yooyeon’s wrist to pull her hand from her mouth.
“If you actually wanted to kill me, you would have already done so and- your hearts literally about to explode if you don’t calm down, that thing’s erratic.” Nien looked amazed and Yooyeon wouldn’t have minded becoming one with the ground this very moment.
“Shut up.” The hunter said listlessly. “How come your population is so small and you’re still this cocky and annoying.”
“You call me cocky and annoying when we both know that you’d rather be in my bed than on this moonlit rooftop.” Nien looked around and chuckled. “The view is kind of great though. How many stories? At least 20 meters in the air though.”
“Don’t remind me of how high up we are.” Yooyeon’s shoulders tensed and Nien’s smirk actually softened.
“I won’t let you fall.” She said earnestly, reaching up with her free hand to push loose strands of hair out of Yooyeon’s face, resting her hand on her cheek in a gesture full of warmth despite her body temperature being literal ice. “See how good I can be, I didn’t even make a very romantic quip. But you would have loved that romantic quip I can assure you, Kim Yooyeon.”
She felt herself snort and nuzzled deeper into Nien’s inviting palm.
“I have a pretty good idea of what you want to say and I’m really not in the right headspace to hear it. Can we just go home?”
Nien was taken aback, her eyes twinkling and then she chuckled once she realized that the human that was stealing her heart with her stoic demeanor was whining like a 5 year old you stole candy from. Now that was a contrasting image that shouldn’t go together but she couldn’t help but feel absolutely charmed. She couldn’t wait to tell Seoyeon all about it and watch her fellow vampire tease their favourite human relentlessly.
“And you tried to pretend to not like me or Seoyeon-ah, that’s an impressive feat but one you clearly lost.”
Yooyeon scoffed and Nien leaned closer just to watch her keep squirming in her lap.
“Ya, stop it.” That was her cue to back off and go back to safer ground.
“You keep saying that I am trying to charm you when the only other vampire in this country with that ability is Zhou Xinyu.” Nien said matter of factly like she was a dumb school kid. “And she’s in Bangkok with Mayu-chan right now to celebrate their honeymoon phase or something so the whole vampire population of South Korea is without its Charmer.”
She took a long breath and decided to ignore that she was still straddling Nien and the only layers of fabric separating them were shorts that left nothing for Yooyeon’s imagination and her own pants.
“You know I only said that so the others would back off, you know.” Yooyeon looked off to the side as she tried to keep her heartrate under control. “I have to keep up appearances to some degree.”
“Then maybe use another knife, stainless steel won’t do shit to me and you know it.” The suggestion was valid but it still made Yooyeon’s heart twinge.
“I don’t want to h-hurt you.”
“I know you don’t but you know enough about my anatomy-“
“-don’t say it like that!” Yooyeon was flushed and Nien failed to suppress her laughter.
“You know enough about vampires to know when a wound is critical. Silver cuts are a pain in the ass but they’re fine in the long run. Lik a chicken I’ll be running around once you Marie Antoinette me with silver.”
“I don’t like thinking about you like that, like you’re livestock to chop to death.”
“How come people think you’re stone cold when you’re that soft with the ones you love.” Nien dropped the lovebomb so casually and Seoyeon never protested when it was brought up but Yooyeon’s heart always skipped a dozen beats each time. Both vampires would proceed to raise their eyebrows teasingly and Yooyeon would be even deader than they’re undead if that was even possible.
“Weren’t you the one who said I had a resting bitch face?” She said dryly.
“Well, that’s also true but two things can be true at once. I’m incredibly hot, smoking actually but my overall body temperature is cold as ice.”
Yooyeon rolled her eyes and said nothing, at this point only nonsense would come out of her mouth. She couldn’t deny those statements because both things were the truth. Beauty was in the eye of the beholder and from her position, sitting right in Nien’s lap, she found that to be untrue because if there was someone who didn’t think this vampire was attractive then she wouldn’t believe it.
It wasn’t her fault Nien wore nothing but shorts and a black tank top and the thighs she was sitting on were toned and pure muscle and… Nien’s smirk told her that she knew exactly what Yooyeon was thinking about but she didn’t say anything. Right now she needed a break from the teasing.
Nien noticed her inner turmoil to the point it had Yooyeon believing that her exceptional hearing was good enough to hear thoughts straight out of her mind before she even thought them to begin with.
“Your hunter friends are gone, time to go home.”
“They’re not my friends, they just felt bad letting an orphan kid roam the streets on her own..”
Nien leaned in closer, stopping just a breath short of Yooyeon’s lips. Gauging her reaction.
“Another win for the heartrate monitor because that thing speeds up like crazy when I lean in.” Nien grinned, showing her teeth and Yooyeon just groaned.
“So annoying.”
“I’ll remind you of that once you are done screaming my name.”
Yooyeon harrumphed and crossed her arms while Nien leaned back on her elbows and just smiled at her. The moonlight on the building’s rooftop made Nien’s features stand out and burn themselves yet again into her inner eye like she wasn’t actively trying not to stare at the vampire.
“You know if you want we have an empty room in the mansion and Nakyoung-unnie always sleeps at SoDa’s anyway.” Nien suggested not directly looking at her and if she wasn’t undead, Yooyeon would have been sure she’d be blushing right now. “Seoyeon-ah has the biggest room in the mansion, has the biggest bed too and a pretty comfortable couch. We have enough space for a human. You’d just have to get used to us never eating proper food.”
“Do you really think hunters have balanced diets? Nope, it would give literally any other regular a heart attack in the matter of a week.”
“Wow, a vampire hunter admitting weakness. Now that’s something I didn’t expect.”
“Oh shut up.” Yooyeon said dryly. “Are you really sure they’re gone?”
“I can’t hear or sense them.”
“Really?”
“Believe me when I say, you guys aren’t exactly Splinter Cell. Even without my hearing ability it’s not difficult to spot you. We just pretend not to see you to make it more interesting.”
“So you know where our base would be.”
“Basement of the second street café.”
Yooyeon’s jaw dropped and Nien laughed.
“Then why not just kill us, we want to kill you after all.”
“Immortality isn’t as fun as you think, believe me, I am not even the oldest around and even I get tired of it. Hunters make it a bit more fun. If we wanted we could completely avoid you but it’s to keep life more interesting and you’re definitely what made it the most interesting.” Nien was looking up at the sky and frowned. “The moon is gonig down soon.”
“Oh, you need to leave.” Yooyeon failed to hide her disappointment, not keen on going back to their base.
“Yeah but we already established that I won’t be alone. You probably miss Seoyeon-ah a lot.” Nien booped her nose and Yooyeon climbed off her lap. “Come on now, Yooyeon-ah. Seoyeon’s missing you too.”
“I am physically older than you.”
“Only physically.” Nien reached her hand out toward Yooyeon to take it. “Bridal carry or a piggyback ride? We can make our way home a bit more interesting.”
“Um…” now all coherence left her body and Nien rolled her eyes with unbridled fondness twinkling in them. “You choose.”
That was the easiest decision Nien had made all night as she gently put one arm behind Yooyeon’s thighs and hoisted her up in her arms like she weighed nothing. Well it wasn’t exactly wrong, she didn’t have Kotone’s strength or Nakyoung agility but she was a lot stronger than probably a dozen physically fit men.
Yooyeon buried her face in her neck and Nien sighed sympathetically.
“Just keep your eyes closed and don’t look at anything but me. Okay baby?” Nien felt the soft nod and got into a good stance. “Alright, we’re moving now?”
While Nien could have simply flown all the way to their remote mansion in the middle of the woods, that wasn’t as cool as pretending to be Uchiha Itachi and going from lamp post to lamp post while staring down at the ground menacingly.
Once they arrived she took a deep breath and listened to Yooyeon.
“We’re on the ground, you can open your eyes now.”
Nien let her take her time, letting her down slowly and at her own pace. Ready to catch her if her legs go out under Yooyeon. It didn’t take long for her to stand on her own two feet and they walked their way to the main entrance of the mansion.
It was a location they’d inhabited for centuries and thanks to their collective abilities and their paranormal nature, well paranormal for humans, it was cloaked from human sight.
Yooyeon was their guest and by default gave her the ability to see the mansion and enter it.
Now that they were inside Nien noticed that it was more quiet than usual. Their regular bedtime was still roughly an hour away but Nakyoung was a morning bird despite their nocturnal nature. A simple fact that had Dahyun go insane frequently.
Even after a relationship that was older than a century some things just didn’t change and Nien doubted that they ever would but hey at least that brought some action into their immortal existence.
“Are the others already asleep?”
“It wouldn’t surprise me if Nakyoung-unnie was lifting some weights in the basement. You know how jacked her sleeping rhythm is.”
“It’s emptier than usual.”
“Kotone said something about copying Xinyu and I’d bet my favourite fang that she kidnapped Kaede to Switzerland as we speak.”
“Why Switzerland?”
Nien just shrugged.
“Competitive mountain climbing maybe, I don’t know. The only thing I can say is never question Kotone and Kaede, the second they’re in on something us other normal beings are screwed.”
“We’re normal.” Dahyun’s exhausted voice came from somewhere in the room and then she yawned. “Be quiet when you go upstairs, Naky-unnie is sleeping for once.”
“Sorry for waking you.” Dahyun just grinned at Yooyeon.
“Don’t worry it wasn’t your fault, I just wondered if tiring Naky out would make her sleep at a reasonable time and I guess I was right.” The pride on Dahyun’s face at that discovery could have gone into the history books and while Yooyeon’s jaw was on the floor, Nien was simply amazed.
“Now that is something I can get behind.” Nien raised her hand enthusiastically and their high five echoed in the entrance for the next 30 seconds at least.
“That would have broken anyone’s arm.”
“Not really.” Dahyun said and flexed her hand. “It was enough to dislocate a shoulder and maybe rupture a tendon or two but not enough for a proper broken arm.”
“Alright, ex-doctor, you should go to bed.” Nien said finally and Dahyun stuck her tongue out. “I can literally smell where that tongue was, go and drink some blood.”
“First give me a good night kiss.”
“Will you then finally get off my dick.”
“I promise with a side of SoDa.” Nien rolled her eyes but smiled, leaning in to kiss her fellow vampire on the cheek. The toothy smile, with fangs on full display, that followed would have done wonders in a toothpaste ad. “I get why you said we’re cocky and annoying. I love her so much.”
“At least she’s entertaining.” Yooyeon said and let herself be pulled toward their main goal of the evening.
On her own Yooyeon would have probably gotten lost but the second she saw the door that led to Seoyeon’s bedroom, her lungs expanded with relief. Nien didn’t knock on the door and they were greeted with the sight of Seoyeon hanging down a wooden beam by her feet.
“I was wondering when you finally got your asses up here.” At once Seoyeon let herself drop down from the ceiling and in a practiced motion landed like a super hero, her hair swinging around hypnotically.
It was a miracle that Seoyeon’s black dress hadn’t been upside down as well but she probably used some of her telekinesis to keep it from doing that. Now that she stood in front of them Yooyeon was harshly reminded that this vampire was the smallest among them all but somehow had the biggest presence.
The only other person that could outdo Nien in sheer confidence was Yoon Seoyeon herself and everyone in this mansion knew that and every other vampire in their country.
“Are you just going to keep standing there or how did you intend on finishing your game of hunter charades this very evening.” Seoyeon said imipshly, her eyes directed at them and then flashing to the four-poster bed at the end of the room.
“Seoyeon-ah I don’t think you need to get your engine revved up, this one’s tired.” Nien pointed at Yooyeon who just sighed.
“I am not that fragile.”
“You’re a human, in vampire terms you’re not just fragile, our stamina is enough to bring you to your grave like 50 times over and you’d still find a way to die.”
Yooyeon rolled her eyes and stretched.
“Like I said cocky and annoying. Who even said anything about stamina, I’ve been up all night already thanks to you and I’d love to have a good night of sleep on a mattress that isn’t as soft as a tree log.”
Seoyeon smiled and exchanged a glance with Nien.
“I know she’s adorable when she whines.”
“Come on now, unnie.” Seoyeon said teasingly. “Let’s get you dressed in something more comfortable and go to sleep.”
“Best idea anyone had all night.” Yooyeon said gratefully and the two vampires just laughed.
“Whatever our human says.” Nien said softly and Seoyeon nodded her agreement.
