“Wow.” Yooyeon could have rolled her eyes at Nien.
“Why do I even date you?”
“Because you love me.” Nien said cheekily and she could only sigh, she’d love to deny it but that would be a lie and Kim Yooyeon wasn’t exactly a good liar. “You were the one who told me she’s an ace on a plate, now don’t be shy and go talk to her. I’ll wait for you or… do you want something else. Maybe to call it an early night at our place.”
Yooyeon looked at the whiskey she’d ordered and the glass of iced water Nien had in her left hand. She hadn’t taken a sip of the whiskey yet, even if the monotonous day in the office just called for that. Their last meeting had melted all their brains and some alcohol to take the pressure off sounded perfect right now. But Yooyeon pushed the glass away and sighed, resting her chin in her hand and looking over to the left just last Nien’s shoulder.
Seoyeon hadn’t been at Cream Division for long but she already made quite the stir. In the matter of days she had all of the nepobaby higher ups under her thumb and was practically the division’s coordinator. She was the actual captain in their office’s hierarchy despite not having the official title.
Whenever Yooyeon came across Seoyeon and one of their managers in a debate, she wouldn’t even blame them for folding. Those eyes could kill and gladly pin her down but she wasn’t about to voice the latter in front of the younger woman for fear of turning into stone like she was a victim of Medusa.
Right now Seoyeon’s pristinely ironed shirt collar and tie were looser, more casual. She hadn’t even touched her drink yet, talking to Dahyun and the already flushed Nakyoung with great enthusiasm. Yooyeon felt that pang of jealousy reverberating in her chest, wanting to be the one she smiled at like that.
Instead of that whiskey she really wanted to taste that smile.
Her lovely girlfriend had been looking at her with an amused glint in her eyes. Nien nudged her in the side and Yooyeon frowned before scoffing, glad that she put her drink down.
“Come on now, I’ll even join you. I know you can’t wait to have those eyes pin you to the opposite wall and tell you to behave.” Nien’s eyebrows twitched and she bit her lip.
Yooyeon’s mouth opened and she swallowed, the thought making her throat dry out.
“I find it… funny.”
“What is so funny? Let me have a laugh too, unnie.” Nien rested her chin on her fist, elbow propped up on the bar counter.
Her other hand now reached out to gently grab her chin. She leaned in closer and Yooyeon’s eyes flitted right down to that mischievous grin. Nien had her right where she wanted her and Yooyeon would gladly surrender like she did any other time.
“I’ll be with you every step of the way.” Nien said in a low voice and Yooyeon nodded.
“You’re my girlfriend, shouldn’t you be jealous?”
“You really think I am jealous when this-“ Yooyeon gasped when Nien leaned in closer, their noses touching “- is all I need to do for you to fold and listen to every whim I have without question. You’re adorable and full of love, why not share?”
“So… you’d be okay with…”
“She’s smaller than both of us and can make a whole conference room of middle aged businessmen bow down to her. I want to know what’s behind that tough and imposing exterior. Maybe she’s tougher than we both thought, have us crying by the end of the night and make us thank her for it or she’s someone even more special. Maybe there’s something we don’t expect behind all that.”
Yooyeon took a long breath to steady herself and not let the fire that was lighting her up from the inside derail what she wanted to do tonight.
Nien closed the distance and Yooyeon clutched the front of her dress-shirt. Probably smearing her lipstick a little but Yooyeon knew her girlfriend would just sport a confident grin and carry that smeared lipstick like a batch of honour.
“Let’s go over there, I need to know.” She pressed her forehead against Nien’s.
“Showtime.” A final chaste kissed and they broke apart, their untouched beverages left on the bar counter.
Their thirst for knowledge was stronger right now.
She stepped past Nien who turned around and stepped up right behind her. Yooyeon didn’t need to turn around to know how Nien was looking, hands in the pockets of her pants, shirt collar rumpled and sleeves cuffed, pulled up and showing off her toned forearms.
It was pure confidence and addicting to be around.
What image Yooyeon was currently projecting, she couldn’t tell. Her perpetually stoic resting face was intimidating but anyone who took a closer look knew that it was more facade than substantial confidence.
Yooyeon was working on it.
As they approached the trio Nakyoung was the first to speak up. Her arms opened wide and she swayed on the spot where she stood, Dahyun putting a steadying hand on her lower back as she smiled warmly at her girlfriend.
“There they are! Our favorite power couple!” Nakyoung said warmly.
Nien laughed right next to her, echoed by Dahyun while Seoyeon threw a glance right at both of them. First she focused on Nien, Yooyeon saw the way her eyes focused on her arms, point to the cuffed sleeves. Then her eyes moved onto Yooyeon, her heart now hammering against her chest.
Seoyeon squinted and on her otherwise now neutral face, a smile played at the edge of her lips.
“I am exhausted from that meeting, Director Son is talking even more crap than Division Manager Park.” Nien said casually, eyes going from Dahyun to Seoyeon and staying right there. “If it wasn’t for you speaking up that number armageddon would have gone on until midnight. You saved us little guys, Yoon Seoyeon.”
“Their talking won’t get the numbers up, we need to take action if we want results.” Seoyeon replied casually, whole body turned toward Nien. Then Yooyeon nearly stumbled when she noticed those eyes settle on her. “You seemed really interested when I started my debate with Director Hwang. Anything to add, unnie?”
If she wasn’t dead before then she definitely was now and this was her afterlife. She was ready to surrender. Yooyeon swallowed while Dahyun couldn’t contain her laughter. Nakyoung just swayed with her half full glass in hand.
“I’d really want to see where this goes but I think my orange cat camouflaging as a black cat is done for the night.” Dahyun grabbed her car keys from the table and pulled Nakyoung by the arm. She turned around to wink at them both. “Tell me about your debriefing tomorrow, we might need some details for the next conference.”
“She definitely wasn’t talking about a conference.” Seoyeon said calmly and went right back to focusing on the power couple in front of her. “So, what is this? I am the little lamb and you’re the two wolves waiting for me to trip so you can pounce. Two versus one, isn’t that a bit unfair?”
“You’re crazy perceptive.” Nien was impressed and bit her lip to contain her excitement, nudging Yooyeon, who must have looked like a perplexed idiot. “But no, I know unnie has one idea of how she’d want this evening to go but what need is there to rush.”
The smaller woman raised a challenging eyebrow and looked right at Yooyeon, eyes boring into her soul and then focusing on her lips. Before Yooyeon could register, she reached out one of her hands and gently touched the corner of her lips with her thumb. As she leaned closer Yooyeon felt like she was about to pass out.
“Your lipstick is smudged.”
“N-not my lipstick.”
Seoyeon grinned and Yooyeon swallowed.
“I figured.” She gave Nien a knowing glance. “I’d still like to mess with it, unnie.”
“O-oh my god.”
“Maybe take your foot off the gas pedal before you careen her brain straight out of the front of the car.” Nien tried to contain her amusement and intrigue. “This is going to be an interesting evening.”
“Definitely.” Seoyeon winked at Yooyeon and then put some distance between them.
Yooyeon let out a breath she didn’t know she was holding and looked right at the floor to gather her bearings.
“Wow.” Was all that left her mouth.
“Are you okay? I didn’t come on too strong now, did I?” Now there was a side she hadn’t seen from Seoyeon, a complete 180 from the untameable fire in the conference room. Yooyeon’s heart soared and her jaw dropped.
“She’s more than okay, you just completely blew her mind.” Nien said softly, putting an arm around Yooyeon and smiling brightly at Seoyeon. “And mine too.”
“Let’s continue this conversation somewhere else and see where the wind takes us.” Seoyeon said and grabbed her car keys from behind her. “My apartment is like a 15 minute drive from here, so how about it?”
Nien looked at Yooyeon with a grin.
“See, wasn’t that difficult. Let’s share the backseat.”
“That’ll leave me all alone in the front but I can work with that.” Seoyeon motioned them to follow her, hooded eyes looking at them for a long, lingering moment. “Maybe we’ll come to the point I join you both in the back.”
Yooyeon’s eyes widened, Nien’s jaw dropped and Seoyeon knew she had them wrapped around her pinky finger.
Right where she wanted them.
