There was nothing, just a void. Awareness returned to her, slowly. There was a hand on her stomach, gently shaking her. A voice calling out to her. She squeezed her eyes shut harder and groaned. The voice became more insistent. It sounded familiar, safe. "Wake up sleepy head. You've been asleep for twenty years!"
She cracked her eyes open. The room was dimly lit. Her faithful servant of sixty - eighty? - years smiled down at her. His blue eyes looked black in the darkness. He smiled, the light catching his fangs. "You're going to be thrilled to see these modern nights."
