She would love them forever, she couldn't condemn them to it.

Summary:

Prompt by user mermaidhugs

“I love you. I love you. I love you. I'll write it in waves. In skies. In my heart. You'll never see, but you will know. I'll be all the poets, I'll kill them all and take each one's place in turn, and every time love's written in all the strands it will be to you.”

Amal El-Mohtar - This Is How You Lose the Time War

Faith loved them all. She hadn't considered that, before.

Work Text:

Faith had been waiting for Jackie for so long. She would have torn the world apart to see her, and some would say that what she did was far worse than that.
It wasn’t like the guilt didn’t claw at Faith every day, anyway.

But, she would die for Jackie. She did. And, recently, she’d realised that she would for Chris and Robin too. In a sense, she died for them all. But she hadn’t been thinking that at the time. Not that she had been thinking very rationally at the time at all, considering that she was actively planning her own suicide and later resurrection. With the assistance of a man named Judea. So, it was safe to say she hadn’t really had enough time for full thought about this.
Years in the Nothingness did not count.

Faith would kill for Chris, Jackie, and Robin, this much was true. If she could, she’d immortalise them in the stars. She made herself a book, can she not become the poet? Not just a poet- the one the people know. Can she be Homer, remembered for thousands of years for the love he wove? If she could, she would imbue them all into the world, along with the very spirit of the Watcher. After all, if the Watcher wanted to watch humanity, surely She would thrive with people woven into the very fabric of being.

Her love would make them last forever. If she could, she would immortalise them all within her pages. But, she couldn’t do that to them. She couldn’t condemn them to the Nothingness.

She wanted them to be in the stars. The one place she could never truly go. She wanted them to be loved across all of time, not caged and trapped by her own whims.

If she could, she would make them last forever. But that would be a fate worse than death, and Faith was far too intimate with that experience. She would just have to love them for the strands of time that they held within their grasps. And make sure that time was as long as nature permitted. But no longer.
