Notes:

prompt: 'star gazing'

Work Text:

“Jakob, you’re staring,” Kevin’s tone is light. He doesn’t look up, just continues to strum the guitar in his lap.

“Y-yeah, at the Northern Lights!” Jakob tries, thankful that the sofa is positioned in front of the window.

“Oh, well, don’t let me stop you!” Kevin says with a knowing smile. Jakob’s unsure if Kevin believes him, so he stays standing, looking at the window. He can’t see a thing, but he’s committed to his lie. He sits besides Kevin moments later when he’s bored of looking at little else but his own reflection.

“Jakob,” Kevin says as he stops strumming, “It’s raining!”

“I can hear.”

“You can’t see the Northern Lights when it’s raining.”

“Oh,” Jakob gulps, then blushes and looks away. He’s suddenly forced into Kevin’s side, as Kevin pulls him into a side hug.

Kevin laughs, “You’re supposed to say something poetic like…”

“You’re as pretty as the Northern Light?” Jakob tries.

“Yeah,” Kevin smiles.

“But-But, Kevin!” Jakob says sound grave, “they’re not…” He looks down, and after licking his lips he says, in a voice barely above a whisper, “The Northern Lights are no where near as pretty as you!”

“That’s more like it!” Kevin laughs, and his arm tightens around Jakob.

“No, Kevin!” Jakob says, voice at its usual volume. He looks up, but not at Kevin, “I’m being serious!”

“Jakob?” It’s Kevin’s turn to blush. He’s thankful Jakob is still not looking at him. He moves his guitar, then he slides off the sofa and settles in front of Jakob. Now face to face, Kevin offer Jakob a small, tight smile. “You’re serious,” he half asks, but doesn’t pause to let Jakob answer, “Because, although I’m not that poetic, I think…” he coughs, then looks away.

“Kevin?” Jakob asks softly, tentatively, forcing Kevin’s eyes back to his.

“I think you’re lying, Jakob!” Kevin says, voice low, a little deeper and darker than usual. Jakob eyes flare, he looks like he might punch Kevin. Kevin grins, “I think it’s you that’s prettier than the Lights!”

Relief slams into Jakob like a tidal wave, and Jakob slams into Kevin forcing him to fall backwards.

Kevin wraps his arms around Jakob, laughing as he falls back the short distance to the floor.

“Kevin?” Jakob says after their laughter dies down, tone soft again. Kevin loosens his grip, and shuffles, allowing Jakob to free his trapped arms. Jakob doesn’t pull back far, just enough to see Kevin’s face. “You’re serious?” he asks, trying to match Kevin’s earlier dark tone

“I can show you how serious,” Kevin offers, head titled.

“Please?”

Jakob leans down, slowly, tentatively, and captures Kevin’s lip in a soft, sweet kiss, which Kevin near immediately deepens.

Kevin allows his lungs to fill with Jakob’s breath: his scent, his taste. And Jakob takes all Kevin can give, before he decides they should probably take a breath of own.

“Sorry,” he says, trying to sound grave, but his giggle betrays him, “Can you show me again?”

“Gladly!”
