“That was certainly informative, wasn’t it Obi-Wan?” Qui-Gon asked, looking over at his sulking protégée.
Obi-Wan refused to look at his master, his arms crossed as they walked side by side down the path.
“Yes, so very informative. So informative that it's taken us four hours just to get through everything. How lovely.” Obi-Wan said dryly, giving the senator’s aide who was giving them a tour of the area a fake smile.
Qui-Gon once again took note of the teenager’s gloomy and angsty demeanor.
The fifteen year old was not at all pleased with him after he had grounded him for two weeks and subsequently took away his lightsaber privileges.
Oh, he was livid, and Qui-Gon was well aware of that. It didn’t bother him, though.
On the contrary; he simply considered it as Obi-Wan learning an important lesson on why it was not wise to have civilian speeder races with other disobedient padawans.
So, there Obi-Wan was; completely lightsaber-less, grouchy, and wanting nothing more than to be literally anywhere else other than there.
Alderaan was a truly beautiful planet, having plenty of things to look at in awe and discover with wonder filled eyes.
Yet, here Obi-Wan was, stuck next to his master while being given the most boring and slow-paced tour in the history of the universe.
Why was the senator's aide showing them the most dull and quiet parts of the planet where seemingly nothing interesting at all was going on?
They were stuck in a building conversing about old topics and facts that made Obi-Wan want to fall asleep. He had been muttering rude things under his breath and giving his master a pretty sour attitude for the entire mission.
When he asked his master why he couldn’t just sit this mission out after he was told they wouldn’t be given free range to roam and view the breathtaking nature the planet had to offer this time, Qui-Gon responded with a calm yet final, "Quite frankly, I do not feel comfortable leaving you alone by yourself for too long after your recent behavior", which of course pissed Obi-Wan clean off.
So, the teenager sulked and remained quiet for almost the entire mission, ignoring the occasional attempts Qui-Gon made to engage in small talk with him.
Obi-Wan just responded with short ‘yes, master’ and ‘no, master’ answers, clearly not in the mood for a chat.
Qui-Gon wouldn’t force a conversation out of the teen, opting instead to speak to the senator's aide about the long history of the planet they were on.
As the day went on, Obi-Wan grew more and more agitated and annoyed. He had received a few stony and warning looks from his master when he responded to him with a bit more sass than necessary, which let him know he had been toeing the line.
Qui-Gon would ignore the vast majority of Obi-Wan’s bellyaching, deciding to have a long conversation with him about it later rather than shift his focus from their mission.
However, even Obi-Wan knew that there were only so many chances he’d be offered. He was on very thin ice by the time they were heading back.
They were almost finished with their mission, when suddenly a certain sulking padawan’s thoughts grabbed his attention.
‘This mission motherkriffing sucked.’ Obi-Wan thought with a silent huff, interrupting Master Qui-Gon’s peaceful demeanor.
Giving the teenager a stern look, Qui-Gon’s patience had finally worn out. “Is there something you’d like to say, Obi-Wan?” He asked, daring the blonde to repeat what he had just thought out loud.
Qui-Gon was well aware that Obi-Wan was perfectly capable of shielding and had been for years, so he clearly had intentionally meant for him to hear it.
Obi-Wan looked his master in the eye, defiance and stubbornness evident on his face. He remained silent, rolling his eyes.
“I asked you a verbal question, Padawan. I expect a verbal response.” Qui-Gon said.
‘Unless you require a physical response right here.’ Qui-Gon thought, giving Obi-Wan a pointed and threatening look.
He was at his wits end, and he wasn’t going to allow Obi-Wan’s poor attitude to continue. Even if that meant setting him straight right then and there via turning him under his arm and peppering his disrespectful behind with a flurry of swats.
Obi-Wan truthfully wanted to ignore him again and not reply, but truth be told, he was smarter than that.
“No, Master.” He said begrudgingly, crossing his arms over his chest to let his displeasure still be visibly known.
The teenager had a feeling that he was going to face a quite unamused Qui-Gon as soon as they got back, but at this point, he didn’t even care. He was fed up with being treated like a little kid, so he’d be as unpleasant and ‘sassy’ as he damn pleased.
When the pair had finally returned home, Obi-Wan immediately began walking towards to his room. He didn’t want to speak to or acknowledge Qui-Gon at all.
Obi-Wan was still angry, though to be fair, Qui-Gon wasn’t very pleased with his padawan at the moment either.
“Obi-Wan, when you get in your room, face the corner until I give you permission to come out.” Qui-Gon said, his voice calm yet commanding.
Obi-Wan paused, turning to look back at Qui-Gon with an incredulous look. “Are you serious right now, Master?” He scoffed.
Qui-Gon nodded, unphased. “Indeed.” He said simply. “As far as I’m concerned, the behavior you exhibited today on our mission earned you corner time, along with a spanking to remind you about what it means to show respect.” Qui-Gon said, giving the teenager a pointed look.
“That’s ridiculous!” Obi-Wan exclaimed, glaring over at his master. Qui-Gon lifted an eyebrow, tilting his head to the side curiously.
“I don’t believe so, Padawan. In fact, I think a time out is extremely fitting, given how you behaved today.” He said.
Obi-Wan was seething now, gritting his teeth and clenching his fists out of anger.
All things considered, Obi-Wan was usually quite calm and obedient. He didn’t enjoy disobeying his master’s orders, as it often led to disciplinary action and consequences.
Besides, he didn’t like disappointing the man. He looked up to Qui-Gon more than anybody else in the entire galaxy, he was the father he never had. So, he almost always gave Qui-Gon the respect he deserved.
Almost always.
Moments like this reminded Qui-Gon that he was still dealing with a teenager going through adolescence and changes that were inevitable, such as occasional rebellion and poor attitudes.
Qui-Gon knew what it was like, he had been a teenager before after all. So, he tried to be as patient with the boy as he could be. However, when enough was enough, he’d make it very clear.
“I’m sick and tired of you always treating me like a kid! I am 16 now, nearly an adult! You can’t just take my lightsaber away, force me to go on pointless missions, make me practically hold your hand the entire mission, and then send me to a corner like-like some kind of naughty child!” Obi-Wan exclaimed, angrily walking towards his master and glaring up at the much taller man.
“Obi-Wan, you were behaving like a naughty child the entire day today.” Qui-Gon started calmly, raising a hand to silence the teenager’s protests.
“I’m speaking now, young man.” He said patiently, watching Obi-Wan’s mouth close as he crossed his arms out of frustration.
“The behavior you exhibited today only proved that I made the right decision in bringing you along with me. You clearly need direct supervision, and judging by the way you were behaving today, along with the day you decided that speeder racing would be a good idea, I made the right choice.” Qui-Gon said.
“But Master-“
“You could have used today to prove to me that you can in fact handle having your own lightsaber again. That you can be respectful and behave in the proper way I raised you to. That you can be trusted to be left alone without my direct supervision without getting into mischief. Unfortunately, you did not use that opportunity. If anything, you just proved to me that you need more supervision, and that you still have many more lessons that you need to learn.” Qui-Gon stated.
Obi-Wan’s eyes widened in response, his jaw dropping. “Master, no! That’s not fair!” He exclaimed. Qui-Gon shook his head.
“You are in no position to tell me what is and isn't fair in regards to your discipline, Padawan. Especially not after today.” Qui-Gon said.
“Furthermore, it is quite fair. Did you genuinely think that I was going to keep taking your disrespect on the chin the entire day without you receiving any consequences for your sour attitude and rude comments?” Qui-Gon asked.
He had been mentally keeping track of every disrespectful thing Obi-Wan said throughout the day, fully planning on taking them into account during his punishment.
“I understand that you are a teenager and that you are going through a lot of changes, but surely you didn’t think I’d allow that, did you?” Qui-Gon asked, surprised that Obi-Wan seemed shocked at his response.
Obi-Wan groaned, tilting his head back in frustration. “So what, now I’m grounded for a month instead of two weeks?! Is that what you’re saying?!” He exclaimed.
“Well, I wasn’t going to do that, no. However, it does seem like quite a smart idea now. So, just for you, we can have that arranged! One month it is.” Qui-Gon said.
That revelation had Obi-Wan seeing red. Against his better judgement, Obi-Wan allowed his temper to take full control.
Then, he called Qui-Gon a very dirty word, one that would certainly get his mouth washed out with a bar of soap later on.
As of right now though, Qui-Gon was going to handle it in a different way. “Alright, I can see that this conversation is getting us nowhere.” Qui-Gon said, his tone as patient and calm as ever.
Before Obi-Wan could even blink, he suddenly found himself being dragged by the hand over to the couch.
“I was going to allow you some time to calm down and think things over in the corner beforehand. However, I can see that you are not in the mood for rational thinking right now.” Qui-Gon said, turning the teenager over his knee and making quick work of tugging his pants and underwear down.
Obi-Wan yelped, kicking his legs out of protest and frustration over the man’s lap. “NO! Y-YOU CAN’T!” He exclaimed, his voice cracking.
Qui-Gon wrapped one of his arms around Obi-Wan’s small waist, keeping him steady and still. He’d allow him to kick as much as he wanted, as long as he didn’t get too out of control.
“I can, Padawan. That’s the part of the concept you aren’t grasping.” Qui-Gon said calmly, landing a sharp smack to the center of Obi-Wan’s pale bum.
“I can turn you over my knee like a naughty little boy. I can heat up your backside as a way to remind you of who you are conversing with. I can wash your mouth out with soap to clean up your filthy vocabulary. I can discipline you as I see fit, do you know why?” Qui-Gon asked, swatting his hand down with every point he made.
Obi-Wan yelped, grimacing in response. His face was bright red as he was forced to face the consequences of his actions.
“B-Because you’re my master!” Obi-Wan replied, crying out as he was rewarded with yet another loud smack to his bottom.
“Yes, that is correct. I am your master, so I know what is best for you and I always will. It doesn’t matter how old you get or how hormonal you become; I will always be your mentor and the man who raised you.” Qui-Gon said, landing his swats in a stinging pattern.
Although Obi-Wan had gotten taller over the years, he was still no match for Qui-Gon’s size. The man’s entire hand still covered nearly all of Obi-Wan’s behind, much to his padawan’s dismay.
“It appears that you’ve gotten too big for your britches, Obi Wan.” Qui-Gon said.
Obi-Wan yelped, unable to keep himself from rapidly squirming. It did no good though, as Qui-Gon had a good hold on him. “Owww, ahh! OUCH! No, Master!” The teenager cried out desperately.
Qui-Gon took note of the respectful tone, knowing that the sharp smacks were beginning to leave a lasting impression upon his padawan's sensitive behind.
That tended to happen once Obi-Wan realized that there was no way around a spanking he had earned himself.
“I understand that you are older than you were when we first met, Obi-Wan. I am also aware that there will be times when you and I disagree, along with times that you’ll test me and my patience. All of this is natural. However, I will not allow you to get away with taking your anger and frustration out on me, or anybody else for that matter, just because you are upset.” Qui-Gon said, lifting his knee and getting better access to Obi-Wan’s upper thighs.
As expected, Obi-Wan cried out loudly in pain. “OUCH! AH! I’m sorry, Master! I-OWW! I understand!” He wailed, his blue eyes beginning to get teary.
Qui-Gon noticed the light pink hue that his padawan’s behind had now, knowing that he was now properly warmed up.
Standing the sniffling teenager up on his feet, Qui-Gon gently tilted down his chin and looked him in the eye.
“You were incredibly rude and disrespectful today. Not just to me, but towards the senator’s aide who was only there to give us a tour and be polite. You know better than to take your anger and frustrations out on innocent people.” Qui-Gon scolded.
Obi-Wan looked down at his master with sad, shameful eyes. Qui-Gon could tell he was back to his normal sweet and obedient self, but that wasn’t why he was punishing him. He was punishing him so he wouldn’t do this again.
So, hardening his heart, Qui-Gon nodded towards the kitchen. “Bring me a wooden spoon.” He ordered.
Obi-Wan’s eyes widened, his face blushing bright red. A wooden spoon?! That was what Qui-Gon spanked him with when he was a youngling! It was childish and lightweight, but it left quite the sting.
It would leave the perfect impression upon Obi-Wan’s behind, as well as humble the teenager and remind him that he wasn't too old to be taken over his master's knee.
“Master, really?! The wooden spoon?!” Obi-Wan asked in mortification. Qui-Gon nodded. “That’s correct, Padawan. Now then, I would like for this punishment to be over just as much as you do.” He said.
Obi-Wan sighed, but obediently went into the kitchen. Qui-Gon knew that this would hurt his pride more than anything, but the accompanying red bum Obi-Wan would have afterwards would certainly leave him with an unpleasant memory that would have him thinking twice before being so openly rude again.
When he returned and handed his master the dreaded implement, Qui-Gon nodded his thanks before swiftly turning him back over his lap.
He gently rubbed Obi-Wan’s back, showing that he was still there to offer him comfort and stability, while the spoon would provide him with accountability.
“I am starting, Padawan. Keep everything that I’ve said in mind.” Qui-Gon said before lifting the wooden spoon and landing it with a loud smack across the pink backside. Obi-Wan shouted, holding onto his master’s leg
“I do not like having to spank you, little one. However, if you show me that you need it, I will always deliver. Regardless of your age, and regardless of how poor your attitude is, you are still my padawan.” Qui-Gon said, landing the spoon strategically.
“OWW! OUCH! AH! I understand, Master! OUCH!” Obi-Wan hollered out in pain, truly regretting his poor decisions now.
“As my padawan, I will always make sure that you are properly disciplined. It would not be wise to misinterpret my patience as weakness.” Qui-Gon said. “I have the ability to be just as firm as I am patient.”
Obi-Wan was finding out just how true that was right now with his poor bottom faced upward over his master’s lap, reddening with each painful smack.
At this point, the blonde boy was openly crying over Qui-Gon’s knee, bawling out apologies and regrets.
“I’m s-so sorry, Master! I s-shouldn’t have b-been so sob r-rude to you! It was m-my fault that I was o-on punishment, not y-yours! I w-was taking out my f-frustrations on you, and I s-shouldn’t h-have! I’m s-so s-sorryyy!” Obi-Wan openly sobbed, his face a mess of tears.
He now felt guilty for being so blatantly disrespectful to Qui-Gon, who had done nothing wrong. It was Obi-Wan’s fault that he had been grounded, and it was also his fault that it got extended to a month.
Although he was bummed out about all of this, it wasn’t right for him to blame his master or anybody else for that matter.
Qui-Gon hummed in acknowledgement, proceeding to light Obi-Wan’s bum on fire with the wooden spoon.
“I am glad that you are finally beginning to see the error of your ways, my padawan.” He said, his patient tone sharply contrasting his painful swats.
Obi-Wan continued to bawl his heart out while Qui-Gon spanked him, never wanting to even see that wooden spoon again!
As his repentant padawan limply bawling over his knee, Qui-Gon knew that this painful lesson had been learned.
So, after landing a few more smacks to Obi-Wan’s sit spots, Qui-Gon set the wooden spoon aside.
“We are finished now, young one.” Qui-Gon said softly, gently rubbing Obi-Wan’s back as it shook with heart wrenching sobs.
“I’m s-s-sorry, M-Master! I’ll k-keep my hiccup t-temper and attitude under c-control, I s-swear…” Obi-Wan cried brokenly.
Qui-Gon fixed Obi-Wan’s pants and undergarments as gently as he possibly could, knowing his poor posterior was stinging something unimaginable. He was well aware how precise his aim was, and how effective his lessons were.
Usually Obi-Wan wasn’t spanked for the same thing twice, though there were certainly some exceptions over the years.
Qui-Gon immediately sat Obi-Wan on his lap, hushing him and rubbing his back as his young charge bawled against his shoulder.
“A cranky lad does not equate to a bad lad, Obi-Wan. Isn’t that correct?” Qui-Gon asked, hearing his padawan’s doubtful and self depreciative thoughts telepathically.
Obi-Wan hiccuped softly, his bottom lip quivering. “Y-Yes, Master…” He trailed off quietly, still trying to get his breathing back to normal.
Qui-Gon gently stroked Obi-Wan’s hair as he rested his head against his chest, listening to Qui-Gon’s calming heartbeat.
“Breathe, Obi Wan. In, out. In, out. Good boy. Keep going. Excellent…” Qui-Gon murmured patiently as he helped Obi-Wan’s breathing even out.
Once it had and the boy’s sobs had been reduced to soft sniffles, Qui-Gon gently cupped Obi-Wan’s cheek. His loving gaze met Obi-Wan’s meek one, giving Obi-Wan a kind smile.
“I’m sorry, Master.” Obi-Wan said, feeling foolish for his previous behavior. “I don’t know what I was thinking...” He sighed.
Qui-Gon grabbed the clean handkerchief out of his pocket and gently used it to wipe the teenager’s tear streaked face.
“You are forgiven, my young padawan. You just had a lapse in judgement, which is perfectly fine. We all make mistakes. You have been properly punished for it, so you are forgiven. There is no need to bring it up any longer.” Qui-Gon said, gently stroking Obi-Wan’s soft locks with his large, yet comforting hands.
Obi-Wan let out a soft sigh through his nose, resting against Qui-Gon tiredly. “Umm…Master?” Obi-Wan asked in a quiet, timid tone. Qui-Gon had a feeling he knew what the boy was about to ask, but he let him ask anyway.
“Yes, Obi-Wan?” Qui-Gon Wan asked, his fingers continuing to gently card through his hair.
“Will I…do I still need to…?” He trailed off, blushing. Qui-Gon smiled, resting his chin on top of his sweet padawan’s head.
“Although you are still grounded for a month, I believe we can manage to skip corner time after that correction. I trust that the spoon left a lasting impression, yes?” Qui-Gon asked, rubbing Obi-Wan’s back.
Obi-Wan groaned, hiding his face against the man’s chest yet again. “Master…!” He complained, the embarrassment evident in his tone as Qui-Gon smiled.
“There there, it is in the past now.” Qui-Gon said, placing a soft kiss on top of Obi-Wan’s forehead. He’d never be too old for that either, as far as Qui-Gon was concerned.
They stayed like that for a while, enjoying each other’s company as Obi-Wan soaked up his master’s comfort.
As far as he was concerned, he had earned the right to be spoiled with some snuggling after having his poor behind lit up. His master’s hand was more than enough to leave him in tears, but the wooden spoon certainly had proven his point.
“Will I have my lightsaber confiscated for the entire month now, too?” Obi-Wan asked sadly. Qui-Gon gently rubbed the boy’s back, giving him a sympathetic look.
“We will see how your behavior progresses.” He said, not opposed to allowing his padawan to earn it back eventually before his grounding was officially up.
Unfortunately, although Obi-Wan had managed to avoid the corner time he had earned himself, he wasn’t able to avoid getting his mouth washed out.
After heading to the bathroom and having his disgusted padawan hold a bar of lathered up soap in his mouth for a considerable amount of time, Qui-Gon allowed him to thoroughly rinse.
However, luckily dinner wouldn’t be ready for a few hours, so Obi-Wan had faith that the icky taste coating his mouth would eventually fade before he had to eat.
In the meantime though, Obi-Wan spent his time listening to Qui-Gon tell him funny stories about his youth.
“You are far from the first padawan to utilize a painfully smart mouth against his master. From my own experience, Count Dooku was not one to tolerate profanity either, which I certainly learned the hard way.” Qui-Gon said to Obi-Wan with a smile.
Obi-Wan’s eyes lit up in amusement, grinning up at him. “Really? What did you say?” He asked, quite curious.
Qui-Gon sighed. “Well, let’s just say that Count Dooku does not appreciate being called out of his name…” Qui-Gon continued to tell the story recounting his mischievous past, much to his padawan’s delight.
