Sokka had pride whenever the people around him laughed, but it hurt when he realised they were laughing at him. Sokka was clumsy and foolish, but that didn’t mean everyone was entitled to poke fun at him.
Sure, Sokka still had talent that wasn’t waterbending, but his heart would dwindle when he watched his friends show off their bending skills in combat.
Zuko was the most impressive, and Sokka watched in awe. Zuko did tease Sokka, but it never hurt Sokka the same way the others did.
Zuko made Sokka feel special, and Zuko promised that he’d cherish Sokka forever.
