Five times to heaven, one time to hell

Summary:

Crowley had bought the Bentley in 1926, fresh off the assembly line. With all the black lacquer and gleaming chrome, it is a hell of a machine- fitting for a creature from Hell. The car is, therefore, HIS car. Yet, lately, the Bentley seems to be calling that claim of ownership into question. That, at least, is how Crowley explains the unusual behavior of his car.
Or: The Bentley is not merely a fine car but also a fine matchmaker.

Chapter 1: You´ll never get to heaven if you break my heart

Notes:

As I recently discovered, because I listen to the radio whenever I´m in my car—unfortunately not a Bentley—there are a lots of songs about Heaven. And somehow it occurred to me to write a story about Crowley and Aziraphale and some of these songs.
I hope you enjoy it and I would love to get some feed back and comments.

Song from Chapter one: You´ll never get to heaven if you break my heart (composed by Burt Bacharach, with lyrics by Hal David, sung by Dionne Warwick)

Chapter Text

The first time it happened was on their way back from...Crowley couldn´t even remember from where...back to Soho, anyhow.

What Crowley could remember was how Aziraphale was pouting. He was pouting and- more concerning- he was punishing Crowley with silence. Or at least he tried. Crowley strongly suspected that the silence weighed more heavily on Aziraphale than on himself. They´d had something like an argument. Crowley wouldn´t have called it an argument, just an exchange of contrary opinions, really. But obviously, he`d done or said something to offend the angel enough to silence him the whole way back from...well, from wherever.

It was raining, big fat drops hitting the windshield of Crowley´s bentley and the dark, deep hanging clouds mirrored his mood. When the angel began to sigh theatrically and emit other disgruntled sounds, Crowley finally took pity on him: "Out with it, Angel, what have I done to upset you?"

"Nothing", Aziraphale said in a voice that cleary ment the opposite and implied Crowley was an idiot for not realizing.

"Don´t say nothing, if you don´t mean it. What to you want to hear from me?", Crowley growled and if he sounded annoyed that was because he was.

But instead of answering, Aziraphale just pouted harder and started to play with the buttons of the radio until it came to life. Normally, Crowley would have pointed out to him that, after the briefest of moments, the Bentley turned every song into a Queen hit. He caught himself just in time, because he certainly wouldn't improve Aziraphale's mood with beeing a smart ass. And, hey, maybe Freddy knew better than he did what the angel wanted to hear right now.

So Crowley simply waited—and, just as he had expected, his car began switching back and forth between radio stations. What he hadn´t predicted was that his car stopped at some local oldie station, which played "You´ll never get to heaven if you break my heart". The demon waited for the song to switch to some random Queen song, but it didn´t. It played the whole song till the end and then started it, again. Odd. So remember if you're untrue Angels up in heaven are looking at you. Thanks, Dionne, for reminding me, Crowley thought.
He was so irritated by the behaviour of his car´s music system, that he was unable to concentrate on their argument- or lack of argument, as Aziraphale still hadn´t said a word.

"Listen, Angel, I´m sorry. Whatever I said was propably just dumb and definetly not ment to offend you. You know that, right?"

Aziraphale just hummed.

"I could do the "I was wrong, you were right" dance for you, as soon as we return. "

Again, Aziraphale hummed but his fingers began drumming on the dashboard to the beat of the music. After a while, he even nodded along with it. As Dionne Warwick struck up the song for the fourth time -Mother told me always to follow the golden rule And she said it's really a sin to be mean and cruel-, Aziraphale sighed deeply.

"You know, Crowley, maybe I was a little oversensitive."
