Chapter 1: The encounterS

Chapter Text

It was a normal morning like any other, autumn had just started in Tokyo, and people were already preparing for second terms in school. Meanwhile, Katsuki, was driving his Porsche towards the bakery he always stopped at before work. He was a model, a very popular one at that, but who are you to be surprised? He was basically gifted since he was a kid, rich, handsome, talented you name it, that man was loaded since birth.

Katsuki had went to a modelling high school right after middle school, the best one in Tokyo, of course and right after high school he moved from his parent’s house and started working. Since his mother was a fashion designer he always had the upper hand, and he loved modelling, well… he loved having all the attention really. Modelling was recognised worldwide, and people from far away countries were asking to do business with him. He loved it.

It’s not like he didn’t have other hobbies though, as surprised as you might be, he also took up badminton during high school, and hasn’t stopped playing since. He likes the sport, something to do when he’s bored or has free time.

Katsuki entered his favourite bakery in town greeted by Denki, who worked there.

“Bakubro! Good morning!” He said in his cheerful tone

“Shut up Pikachu and give me the usual, I’m already running late.” Katsuki said in his usual grumpy tone pulling out his wallet and scanning his card on the register

“Nothing new I see” Denki said while preparing the blonde’s usual order

“Tch, just do your job.”

“I am, I am chill”

“Alright here you go! Have a nice dayyy” Denki said playfully and handed Katsuki the bag with his order

“Thanks, bye” The blonde said and left quickly, stepping in his car and driving away towards the place he was getting photographed at today

He got out of his car while finishing his coffee and walking towards the building. He walked in, getting in the elevator and pressing the button to the 6th floor.

While moving, it stopped on the 3rd floor, but the blonde thought nothing of it, someone was probably trying to get in… and yeah… someone was, but no one other than his childhood friend, Izuku Midoriya, was at the other side when the doors opened.

“What the hell?” Katsuki said eyeing the green haired boy up and down. He was dressed….like a janitor? Did he work here?

Izuku, who also seemed surprised quickly composed himself and got it the elevator. “Uhm, good morning, Kacchan”

Kacchan. Kacchan. That nickname…he had forgotten about it after all those years, but when the green haired boy said it, it seemed to trigger something deep inside him.

The doors closed and the elevator started moving again snapping Katsuki out of his trans. “Uh, yeah, good morning, Deku.”

Deku? Why did i say that? I didn’t mean to.. it was like… like an instinct…. Like something I’m used to…

Katsuki wanted to say more… he wanted to… what did he want to do? Apologies? Reconnect? How could he ask that of him after all these years… after everything….

Before Katsuki could get his thoughts together the elevators doors opened to his floor, but it seemed like he didn’t even noticed until he felt Izuku nudge him a bit

“Hey, I think that’s your floor” He said calmly looking up at the blonde.

That seemed to snap Katsuki out of his second trans, he quickly composed himself.

“Oh yeah, yeah” he quickly got off, kind of wishing he said something more, but he didn’t. That stupid feeling of pride always in his chest just wouldn’t let him… it was always like this. He just walked away without turning back towards the room he was assigned to.

The photo shoot went well, but he couldn’t focus much because of the encounter earlier.

A few days later, it was a nice Friday, busy streets, perfect weather for a normal jacket and for walks around the parks. And there was Katsuki, hanging out with his friend group because he was forced. They were supposed to go see a movie at the cinema but decided to stop at a small convenient store to get some snacks, because the cinema ones were definitely too expensive.

Katsuki was grumpy as always, but he was having some fun, he called them his friends for a reason. There was that strange encounter from a few days ago still in his mind though. Why was Deku there, and why was he dressed as a janitor. Well he probably worked there, but….why?

He didn’t have much time to finish another repeat of his thoughts before his friend Mina pulled him into a convenient store with the others to get snacks.

They took their sweet time picking them out alright, so the blonde went to pay first without them, he wasn’t the patient type.

He didn’t look up as he placed the stuff he picked up down and started searching for his wallet, but after a few beeping sound, the cashier spoke up.

“Cash or card, sir..?”

The guy’s voice was kind of unsure when he spoke up, but Katsuki could recognise it alright.. he could recognise that voice anywhere, anytime, anyplace. And he slowly looked up with an annoyed expression.

“Deku.” He said in a both annoyed and regretful tone. Gosh, he really didn’t want to be in this situation right now.

“…Yes?” The green haired boy said slowly. He was clearly nervous, and probably in the same position as Katsuki right now.

The blonde pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed deeply before responding

“What…. What the hell are you doing here?” He said looking at him once again. He had grown up, he looked decent. The most Katsuki could cut out from his heart.

“…Working.” Izuku said, there was still a scent of nervousness and hesitation in his voice.

“I can see that… I’m asking why.” The blonde said clearly annoyed that Izuku didn’t understand his question.

“Money..? Why else?” He said in a more calm-like way.

“Deku you always had good grades, and you went to a pretty good high school even if it wasn’t the one we both wanted to go in. So you can’t stand there and tell me this is where you ended up.” Katsuki said, he was curious, really. He didn’t expect him to stoop that low.

“Kacchan, the fact that you had the opportunity to miss collage because you were rich doesn’t mean I did too” The green haired boy said in a slightly annoyed tone.

“Oh, right.” The blonde said realising that Izuku was still in collage, so he couldn’t really get a better job right now. But that doesn’t explain the encounter from a few days ago. Was he working multiple jobs? Why?

But before Katsuki could finish his thoughts his friends interrupted him by making theyre way to the register, fuck, he forgot about them.

He quickly took out a small business card from his pocket and gave it to Izuku along with the money for the snacks.

“Here, you see that number? It’s mine, text me later, I wan-…..” He cut himself off before speaking again “I need to talk to you” When he said that he quickly walked out of there before his friends could reach him and stopped to wait for them outside the store not even bothering for his change.

Izuku, who was shocked, just took the card and shoved it in his pocket before reaching out and saying “wait I-!” at least that’s what Katsuki heard, before leaving the store, he didn’t really care what the green haired boy had to say.

After the movie Katsuki went home, took a shower, ate some leftovers he had from yesterday and went to bed. The first thing he did was check his massages, he wanted Izuku to massage him, but he didn’t. There weren’t any new massages. The blonde decided to wait a few days, maybe he was busy?

A few days passed and still no massage from Deku. Katsuki was getting really annoyed. Why hadn’t the green boy texted him? Or maybe called? Did something happen? Did he not want to talk with the blonde?

Well, Katsuki wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case, after all he did all those years ago.. but now… now he was different, he wanted to apologies, to maybe reconnect with him. He felt guilty, but wouldn’t admit it, all he showed was annoyance as he pulled up at that convenient store the next day, wanting to find him

When he entered, Deku was there alright, he was sitting behind the register waiting for someone to come in, and when he saw Katsuki, probably the last person he expected there again, his nervous expression was on.

The blonde made his way to the register, luckily, the store was kind of hidden and not much people knew about it, so it was empty.

“Why didn’t you call or text me?” He said, getting straight to the point and leaning on the counter.

Izuku seemed reluctant to answer, but he sighed and said “I don’t have a phone, mine broke a week ago and I can’t buy a new one yet.”

Katsuki’s eye twitched, he didn’t have a phone…. He. Didn’t. Have. A. Phone. He was annoyed, but mostly confused.

“You don’t have a phone. You-“

Izuku cut him off. “Yes, I don’t have a phone Kacchan. I’m sorry I didn’t call or text or whatever, but I’m in a tight position right now so I can’t exactly afford it.

The blonde was quiet, the annoyance on his face was clear, but there was also confusion in his tone when he replied “I’m surprised Auntie let you live without one.”

Izuku was quiet, he clearly knew something, something he was hesitant to say

Katsuki looked at him with confusion “What? What is it?”

Izuku stayed quiet for some time, but then he finally spoke. “She passed away, Kacchan.”

The blonde’s face went pale, he definitely expected anything but that. Auntie passed away? She…she died? How.. when.. why… his head was full of questions and emotions, but as always, he didn’t show that.

“What..? I.. I’m sorry to hear that, I didn’t know.”

Izuku sighed “It’s fine, it was almost 2 years ago anyway.”

2 years? Woah, that was a lot of time.

“Shit… what the fuck happened to you?” Katsuki asked in a calmer tone, he really liked Inko, back then she used to always be there when him and Izuku played together, and would help him if he got hurt and his mom wasn’t around.

“A lot” The green haired boy said, he was clearly sad and still grieving. That made Katsuki even more guilty.

After a moment of silence with the blonde clenching his fists he spoke “I need to talk to you okay!? Just tell me when you’re free.” he said with a slight anger but mostly frustration in his tone.

Izuku stayed quiet for a moment, Katsuki wasn’t sure if he was hesitating or thinking, but then he replied

“Saturday, after 4pm.”

“Ok, so what’s your address?”

“Uh, ***********“

“Got it, meet me at the closest cafe to your house at 5pm next Saturday. That good?”

“Yeah.. yeah it’s fine.”

“Ok, bye.” The blonde left the store without looking back at Izuku. He shoved his hands into his pockets and walked towards his car

He got home and made himself some pasta, then he took a shower and went to bed. Staring at the screen of his phone, scrolling through random apps trying to get his thoughts together. About Deku’s mom, about this whole situation, and most importantly, about his feelings, but like always he couldn’t, so all he did was put his phone on the charger, set up an alarm for tomorrow morning, and fall asleep after a while.
