Chapter 1: The light we all wish to see someday

Chapter Text

It was a nice autumn day in the forest, the birds were chirping, the animals collecting food for the soon to come cold winter, and Izuku was picking up mushrooms from the cold, muddy forest ground.

He lived alone in a small cabin in the city’s nearby forest. No phone, no contacts, just peace and the amazing wildlife.

He had moved there 3 years ago after he graduated from college. It was kind of hard at first, hunting and having to pick fruit, having your own garden, having to chop wood when winter came. But soon enough he got used to the hard life the forest offered him and settled in.

He would go to the city sometimes when he needed stuff. He saved around five thousand from part time jobs during collage, plus all he needed was something like a new light bulb restock or toilet paper, but he always buys a ton so it can last a long time. And if he runs out of money he’s planning on selling stuff. He can make really cool things in the small crafting room at his house where he keeps his bike (he uses it to go to the town) and a lot of boxes.

Or if he’s in a really tight position he could just ask his mom. She was in the city living in the apartment Izuku grew up in. The woman supported his life choices and told him that as long as he’s happy and healthy he can do whatever he wishes. He visits her on holidays so he doesn’t spend them alone. Or sometimes she comes to the cabin.

And so he was walking through the autumn coloured forest, the wind blowing in his ears as he looks for mushrooms. Since winter is coming, he needs to collect food.

“Hmmm I have a whole lot now and it’s getting dark soon. I should probably head back. I need to prepare for hunting tomorrow, or maybe I should chop wood tomorrow? Hmm…” he was muttering to himself, very aware of the fact that only the animals were listening, if they even were.

He couldn’t continue his thoughts because a bright light came from the sky. Something like a meteor flashed his eyes for a second before there was a loud rumble not too far away from him. The ground shook and Izuku almost lost his balance, but a nearby tree saved him.

The green haired man took a moment to composed himself before looking towards the sound, it was a little ahead, he could see smoke coming. What just happened? Was that a UFO? Is Earth getting invaded by aliens!??

He shook his head and smacked both sides of his face. “Stupid, aliens don’t exist.”

Izuku looks back ahead, debating if he should check it out. “Logically, this could be a small piece of a meteor. But that doesn’t explain the light that came from it, or maybe that was because of the speed?” He started to mumble to himself again before he finally started heading towards it.

As he approached the smoke got ticker because of the backlash of the “thing” hitting the ground. He covered his mouth with his sleeve and pushed through making it to the hole in the ground that wasn’t deeper than 2 feet.

He carefully stepped inside as the smoke cleared a little bit more, approaching the middle of it when he finally saw it. It looked like a person at first, but then he saw its big, bird-like feather wings.

He gasped and jumped back, eyes wide. The creature didn’t move, it was curled up in a ball with its bruised wings around itself like a shield. Next to there was a broken in half circle which Izuku assumed was a Halo, even if it sounded insane.

The green haired man stared in both shock and awe. Was it really what he was thinking.? Could this actually be…. An Angel? A fallen Angel?

He takes a step closer lowering himself down a little until he fully crouches, observing it. The smoke had mostly cleared now and he was able to see more clearly. It really was one, or maybe he was hallucinating. The wings were perfectly strapped to its bare back like they were supposed to be there. Its hair was blonde, and it looked a lot like a human.

He carefully moved his hand to touch it, cautiously glazing its skin and with his fingers. It didn’t move or make a sound, but he could tell it was alive because of the rise and fall of its chest.

He was mesmerised, studying it carefully trying to take in every detail. “Great, Izuku, perfect day to forget your notebook at home.”

The green haired man looked up, noticing the slight darkness of the sky. It was getting dark. What should he do? Should he leave it there? And why was he still referring to him as “It”. The Angel was clearly a male.

Before he could finish his thoughts, the creature moved. He jumped back but quickly put his hand on his mouth.

The Angel didn’t wake up, it was just a movement, but it revealed all the scars and bruises he had on his body, and the even deeper ones on the inside of his wings. It also revealed his perfect body, and face, but Izuku chose to ignore how handsome he was. Then the green haired man made the choice to take him back to the cabin.

The first thing he did was take out a small napkin out of his bag and collect the broken Halo. He put on a glove, afraid of breaking or damaging it, and carefully collected it. After that was done he carefully placed the larger man on his back, trying hard not to touch any wounds.

The Angel was heavy, but thankfully those 3 years of eating only meat, fruit and vegetables plus working everyday payed off, so he managed to bring him to the house.

The green haired man placed the blonde on his large carpet in the warm cabin and started treating his wounds.

After he was done with that he left the being there, it looked comfortable.

Three days later.

Izuku had went out to chop wood that day. The angel was still sleeping on his rug, he didn’t know if he would even wake up. When he came back because it was getting dark, it happened.

Ruby red eyes pierced his soul as the Angel loomed over him and pinned him against the door with an angry growl.

“Who the sheep are you! Where am I! Are you planning on killing me, human!? Just try it!” He said, his voice almost unreal.

Izuku was stunned, shocked, frozen, mesmerised, confused and much more. His head was a mess as he stared at the mythical being in front of him with no words.

“Answer me! Can you not speak!?” He repeated angrily.

The green haired man opened his mouth but nothing came out, literally. He could just stare. But after a moment he realised the Angel was probably going to strangle him if he didn’t speak so he forced it out.

“I-I.. I’m Izuku Midoriya! I found you in the woods and uh, brought you here! I also healed your wounds because you looked hurt! I won’t harm you in any way, I promise! In fact I think you’re absolutely mesmerising! Are you an Angel? Am I finally going insane from living alone!? I- I don’t know what to say!”

The blond blinked curiously as Izuku started muttering. He listened for a while until he finally said “Enough.”

The green haired man put his hands on his mouth, blushing slightly. “Oh! Sorry! I have a habit of muttering and talking to myself…”

The Angel looked at him and finally pulled back. “Why did you bring me here? What could you gain from helping me? There isn’t any other explanation than what every greedy human would do. Kill you, sell you, basically use you for their own benefit.”

“I swear I’m not like that! I just like to help people!” he shouted, he felt underestimated. Why would the creature say something like that? He didn’t even know him.

“Yeah? Why should I believe you? All humans are the same.” He crossed his arms looking down at Izuku.

“That’s not true! Some of us are good and kind, you know?” he protested. It looked like he didn’t know anything about humans to Izuku.

“All of you are afraid of the unknown. If there’s something that looks like it could endanger your species, you destroy it. If there’s something that hurts you, you destroy it. You humans have destroyed so much over the centuries you have even started to destroy yourselves. Global warming and stuff. Monsters,” the Angel said.

The green haired man stayed silent. He couldn’t deny that. Humans *are* monsters. But not every single one of them. At least while Izuku is alive, that would be true. “I know, but is there anything I can do about it? I’m just one person… one person can’t change billions people’s minds. One person can’t do anything without power. All that matters is power, and money.”

“Exactly, that’s what I said. Your power hungry monsters. Fine I admit there might be *some* humans out there who are good. But they’re not enough to change what’s been done.”

Izuku stayed silent, looking down at his feet. He was frustrated. But then something snapped him back and he realised the situation he’s in and laughed.

“What are you laughing about now,” the Angel said with a grumpy expression.

“Sorry, I just didn’t expect my first conversation with an Angel to be about Global warming,” he answered, chuckling again.

“Humans are weird,” the blond replied unfolding his arms.

“So, let’s just sit down and I’ll explain what happened and how you got here, okay? Then we will figure out what to do next,” the green haired man said, finally looking up at the taller man with a smile.

The creature looked at him for a moment. “I still don’t trust you”

“Then let me explain?”

“….fine”

Izuku say down on his not too large couch and patted the seat next to him

“Yeah I’m not sitting next to you,” the Angel said crossing his arms and looking down on him.

The green haired man sighs “Fine, fine. Stay up and let your legs suffer then mr. Angel”

“Katsuki.”

“What?”

“The name is Katsuki. Bakugo Katsuki”

Izuku stared at him for a moment before he finally spoke “Ooh! That’s a really nice name! I expected something more unique from an Angel though.”

“HAH?” The creature shouted angrily “You think my name isn’t good enough or something, human!?”

The green haired man flinched when the blond yelled and quickly waved his hands in front of his face “No! No! I swear, I didn’t mean it like that! Your name is amazing mr. Angel!”

“Just say Katsuki, damn it!”

“Ah! Yes! Sorry Katsuki!”

“Tch, whatever.”

Izuku took a deep breath. After he calmed down a little he said “Okay uh, I’ll start explaining now.”

“Go on.” The creature stared at him angrily, but there was a hint of curiosity

“Sooo…. I was in the woods looking for mushrooms since winter is coming you know and I need food. They I heard a loud explosion with something that almost blinded me from the sky I thought I was gonna die! I decided to approach it and the big smoke it left and then I saw you! You were kind of beaten up so I took you to my cabin and patched you up! It’s good I went to a vet collage so I could heal you! Well I also sometimes help animals around the forest recover if I find them injured! Anyway after that you didn’t wake up for 3 days and now when I came home from wood chopping you pinned me against the door and yeah!” Not one stutter. He was waving his arms around, doing random things as to “show” what he was saying somehow and stuff like that.

Katsuki listened to his explanation, and after he was done he just said “Ok.”

Izuku titled his head “That’s it? Just ‘ok’?”

“Yes.”

“Okay..”

There was a moment of silence before the Angel finally spoke “So, let me leave”

The green haired man look up in confusion “What?”

“Let me leave.”

“Wha-..” Izuku paused and thought for a moment, it’s not like he was planning on keeping the creature, but something prevented him from letting him leave. “You can’t”

“Why the sheep not?” Katsuki said, crossing his arms.

“First, do you even know how to survive in the human world? Second, did you just say ‘sheep’?” The green haired man answered.

“First, fair point, and second, yes I said ‘sheep’, what of it?”

“Why sheep?”

“Angels can’t curse”

“Oh!” Izuku exclaimed and after a moment took the notebook that was on the coffee table next to him, beginning to write.

“What are you doing?” the blond said, titling his head.

“Just taking notes,” the green haired man answered, continuing to scribble with his pencil.

“On what?” He walked over to Izuku and peeked in his notebook. His eyes widened.

“Well uh, you,” Izuku said as Katsuki saw the page he was writing on. There were wings drawn, explaining what they’re made of and how they work, also that they’re sensitive and more.

The blond grabbed the notebook and started looking through it. Clearly ignoring the green haired man’s words and actions of protest. He saw the pages were full of illustrations and stuff about angels, or him. There were drawings of wings and their mobility in izukus eyes, also drawings of Katsuki were found here and there. The notebook was not even halfway done thought, like he just started it a few days ago.

“Give it back! Please!!” Izuku finally managed to get his notebook back and pressed it to his chest like his life depended on it.

“What the sheep is this?” The Angel asked, clearly mad.

The green haired man looked away sheepishly, but spoke “I’ve just been keeping some notes on you, is that so bad? I mean you’re a mythical creature! No one knows you exist!

Katsuki scoffed and crossed his arms “So you are a nerd. Great, just great.”

“Hey! Being a nerd isn’t so bad! It could also mean knowledgeable!” Izuku said as he put his notebook on the coffee table next to the couch.

“It could also mean weird and obsessed” the blond scowled at him.

The green haired man sighs “Okay look, if you want me to let you go I will, I can’t keep you here against your own will, but you won’t be able to survive out there. Like you said earlier humans are monsters and if they see someone weak and vulnerable they won’t hesitate to take advantage of it.”

“Well what the sheep do you expect me to do? Live with you?” the Angel proposed, sarcastically.

“Well, why not?” Izuku said and looked down. “I can’t lie, it gets pretty lonely out here living alone with only the animals around, and when I saw you three days ago, I thought I was finally loosing it. Plus you can help me around here and you’ll be safer.”

The blonds hands dropped to his sides and his eyes widened slightly. “Dang, you’re actually serious,” he laughs “I’m actually gonna live with a human. Me? Living with a human? Didn’t think I’d stoop so low. Guess that’s what I get from getting kicked out from heaven.”

“Yeah yeah, well you can’t exactly call yourself Angel now anyway so we’re on the same level! I just wish I could have taken a better look of your wings before… you know.” Izuku says fidgeting with the hem of his shirt and looking down.

“What? You think I won’t let you touch them now that I’m awake? Well dang right!” Katsuki exclaimed.

Izuku looked up at him in shock “What.? You- you don’t know? Can’t you feel it or something?”

“What are you talking about? Feel what?”

“I- i’m sorry… your.. your feathers fell off two days ago.. and then what was left just shrieked down inside your back.”

The blonds expression went pale, he just stood there for a moment, frozen in shock, before he started walking.

“H-hey? Where are you going.?” The green haired man followed closely behind him. Worried about his reaction.

Katsuki went to a mirror and stood in front of it. Izuku watched how his eyes went wide and it looked like all the life in them disappeared. He let the an-… the man stand there for a moment before he put his hand on his lower back trying to calm him.

“Hey, are you… feeling okay? I mean, I suppose not but.. it’s not that bad? If you go out it won’t be a problem! You can be like a human!”

The green haired man exclaimed, trying to make him feel better. But that was a mistake, cuz the next thing he knew he got hit in the face. The blonde slapped him, really hard, and then started yelling while tears fell down his face.

“What the sheep!? Do you understand what just happened!? Of course not! You’re a human, how could you ever know what loosing your freedom means!? How dare you say it’s a good thing.. how..” He cried out angrily as Izuku just stood there looking at the ground, his hand on his cheek.

“Hahaha.. what the fuck…” the green haired man said quietly as he rubbed his cheek.

“What the sheep are you laughing about!?”

“All I’ve been trying to fucking do is make you feel comfortable and help you! And in the end I’m the one that gets hurt! It’s always me!” Izuku shouted back angrily “That’s why I fucking live in the forest! Everyone always hurts me! Everyone always leaves no matter what I do! No matter how kind I am. Why did I think you’d be any different… I guess when people lose their wings they become like this. Let’s just hope it doesn’t drive me far enough to lose mine.” He said and walked up to the front door, going outside.
