My Taste in Music is Your Face

Summary:

Nagito is curious as to what sort of music Hajime likes.

After asking the question, he comes to the horrific realization that Hajime is stuck listening to pop music from the 2010s.

Or,

The tragedy of being in love with someone who likes Imagine Dragons and AJR.

Notes:

Not necessarily saying any of the mentioned artists are bad. On my soul I blast Believer to this day so.

My music taste is shitty too.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"Say Hinata, what type of music do you listen to?" Nagito questions.

Hajime hums, his attention currently focused on tinkering around with a robotic hand. "Sorry-" he turns to Nagito, "What did you say?"

"I asked 'what type of music do you listen to?'" Nagito repeats himself. He places an elbow on top of Hajime's desk and sets a hand below his chin.

"Oh... um- I guess anything really."

Nagito stares expectantly at the former ultimate hope.

"You want me to show you?" Hajime hesitantly offers.

A grin pops up on Nagito's face. "Yes, I'm interested in what you like."

Hajime gives him a look of disbelief. "Seriously? Well, okay."

He fishes his phone out from his pocket and opens up a music streaming platform. Hajime uses his thumb to scroll past his favorite songs, he's trying to search for something that isn't embarrassing.

Nagito scoots his chair closer to Hajime's space so he can peer over his shoulder and look at the screen of his phone.

His thumb hits play on a song. In an instant English words fill the air as with the horn of a trumpet.

"Hinata... is that... AJR?" Nagito asks in what sounds like horror.

Hajime smiles as he speaks, "Yeah, how'd you know? Do you like them too?"

Nagito decides to not awnser. It's most certainly not something he would listen to, and he wouldn't want to make Hajime feel bad over his music taste.

"I've... I've heard of them before," he says, not quite a no or yes.

When the song gets closer to the chorus, Hajime begins to sing along to the words. Nagito has to admit that it's slightly cute, the way Hajime has the lyrics memorized and the unsure quality to his voice, not exactly used to pronouncing a foreign language.

"Oh- I also like this song," Hajime interrupts his singing to click play on another track.

This time a less upbeat melody is heard from Hajime's phone. Nagito can understand some words- something about hidden demons and darkness. Again, it's not exactly something he would willingly listen to.

"What about you, Komaeda? What music do you like?" Hajime inquires.

Not pop music, that's for sure... or whatever it is Hajime is currently playing. "It's sort of hard to describe," he responds, choosing to dodge the actual question.

Hajime hands him his phone. "Here, play it for me."

Nagito presses his lips together as he takes Hajime's phone in his hand. He places it on his thigh so he can actually type on the keypad, since he's currently left without the use of his other hand.

His music taste isn't exactly better than Hajime's. Actually, it might be worse. He slowly presses down on the song once it pops up on the screen.

A smile graces Hajime's face. His eyes light up in recognition. "You like Aphex Twin? That's cool, I like their songs too," he beams, and for a second Nagito swears he's looking straight into the sun.

Hajime truly is wonderful.

Notes:

Dumb stupid bullshit

Also it's not mentioned but Hajime totally likes Twenty One Pilots. On my soul he listens to stressed out unironically. He thinks Blurryface is a good album and prefers it over Vessel, which is an INCORRECT opinion.
