a whole field of flowers

Summary:

Kevin is stressed about something. . .

Notes:

prompt: flowers
is giving perfect yule vibes but role reversal

(& yes, flowers has a smut version)

Work Text:

Jakob’s not sure if it’s the heavy sigh or the near slamming down of the laptop lid that snaps his attention away from his book, but what he does know is that it’s incredibly out of character for Kevin.

“Everything okay?” he asks.

“Yeah...,” Kevin lies, with another sigh, “Just a little tired is all.”

Jakob nods, although he’s not convinced. It’s true the pressure of Eurovision was getting to them all, but Kevin’s ever calm nature had been keeping him (and Axel) grounded. He puts his book down on the bed next to him and smiles at Kevin, “Come here!” he says softly, and invites Kevin over with a tilt of the head.

Jakob allows Kevin to settle in his lap. His hand begins stroking Kevin’s soft hair. It feels smooth: he must have recently washed it. “What is it really?” he asks.

Kevin sighs again, but it’s lighter this time, “Eight hours!” he starts, “It’s an eight hour drive from here to Amsterdam, And we’ll need a vignette to drive the most direct route! We have to pay to drive on the road to get out of here…” Kevin sighs again, “We could avoid the charge, but that would mean driving through Germany, and that’ll add hours. And where will we even find those 8 hours to begin with?”

Jakob continues to smooth down stray stands of Kevin’s hair. He nods and hums supportively although Kevin hasn’t clarified a single thing, rather he’s left Jakob with more questions. “But, why do we need to go to go to Amsterdam?”

Kevin looks up at him then, and Jakob takes a moment to admire the sight. “I just thought, since this is the closest we’ll be for a while…” Kevin starts but doesn’t say anything else, or elaborate further.

“Let’s go for a walk,” Jakob suggests. He too could benefit from a breather, he thinks.

Out in the fresh air Kevin perks up a little bit. At least he’s smiling now, it makes Jakob smile too.

Kevin stops suddenly, seemingly randomly, “Wait here,” he smiles, then he disappears into a store before Jakob can say or do anything.

When he returns a short time later, Kevin is holding a small bunch of yellow and red flowers and he’s wearing the biggest grin that Jakob’s seen on his face for a long time. Kevin, somewhat sheepishly hands Jakob the tiny bouquet.

“Oh, Kevin!” Jakob feels like he is blushing.

“It’s not the whole field you deserve-” Kevin starts. Jakob cuts him off before he can say anything else with a little, light, too quick peck on his lips.

He looks down at the flowers in his hand, “Oh, Amsterdam” he mumbles, making the connection. He looks back up at Kevin, who’s still grinning at him. “Kevin, just one flower from you is more than enough for me. I don’t need a whole field…”

Kevin simply gestures.

“And look!” Jakob continues, like Kevin hadn’t seen the flowers he just purchased, “They’re tulips!”
