Work Text:
The sun sunk lower and lower down the horizon as it's warm pallete of color radiating from it's magma core faded into deep aurora blues of the night speckled by billions of stars light-years away.
A sigh escaped Katie's lips as she knelt on the cold hardwood floor beside her bed, putting her elbows on the bed and her cold hands grasping together before she pressed them against her forehead uncomfortably in prayer as she mumbled to herself as she did everynight before bed.
"I promise, lord and savior, I'll distance myself from my sinful temptations. Amen."
Katie finished off her prayer with that sentance and the motion of crossing herself, ruffling her wings slightly with uncertainty, unsure if she would actually follow through with her promise to God.
With a grunt, Katie stood up with aching knees that would probably be red later and dusted herself off even though there was nothing on her clothes and brushed strawberry blonde peices if hair out of her face. After she stood up, Katie fell onto her back onto her bed only to be greeted and reminded of the hard metal springs she could feel when laying on top of her mattress and the uneven popcorn ceilings she saw when gazing upwards.
Katie thought the popcorn ceilings gave character dispite half her friends disagreeing and Tina calling them dumb, which was stupid because she also ironically had popcorn ceilings in parts of her home.
Tina. The beautiful woman Katie swore every night in prayer she would resist temptation to.
Katie reached over to her charger and fished up her rosegold phone, checking her notifications and seeing many emails from her friends, but really only cared about one person in particular dispite forcing herself to not message Tina.
Katie clicked on the message and it was just some stupid cat gif, so she left Tina on read no matter how badly she wanted to reply. After scrolling upwards in their texts, Katie had found she didn't even say goodbye.
Katie:
"I'll be right back."
Read Katie's last text that she had sent Tina weeks ago before her promise.
It hurt to be straight, but it was worse to end up in hell.
Being gay is a sin. Being straight couldn't be that hard.
Katie then shut off her phone, darkness encapsulated her room besides the sliver of light coming from under her door from the light in her kitchen. Katie then placed her phone on her nearby nightstand and pulled her comforter over herself before rolling over in her bed and closing her eyes to fall asleep.

Whispers and warm scents of chocolate covered strawberries, french vanilla, and coffee beans swirled around the cozy cafe like a warm blanket in contrast of the bitter cold gale outside and the diverse shades of aubern autumn leaves dancing around bustling streets.
The table Katie sat at shook subtly as she bounced her leg anxiously and sipped a black coffee. She wanted to try it with no sugar and no creamer but she hated it and thought it tasted like shit and mud. Atleast she kinda looked cool but to be honest most would probably assume she's like 30+.
The real thing on Katie's mind besides a chaotic and critical fear that people were judging her, was Tina. They hadn't called in just over 2 dreadful weeks and it was driving Katie insane. She missed the sound on Tina's soft voice many may have called annoying.
Katie sighed deeply. Damn, she needed a cigarette.
No matter how much Katie resisted temptation, she knew deep in her heart that it was just a matter of time until the hard exterior around her heart shattered before she gave in.
It hurt to be straight, but it was supposed to be worse to end up in hell. Was it worse if Katie would be spending an eternity in flames with her Tina? The woman she loved most of all?
Katie racked her brain for answers, for solutions, for any possible loophope or grey area, but there was no solution.
Her and Tina would never last.
Katie was an angel and Tina was a demon. That was strictly forbidden. They were complete opposites according to society but somehow they still had more in common than what differed.
But then why did Katie hold on so tightly to their friendship if she was only going to break Tina's heart again and again..?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Katie broke her promise to God.
She would again and again in every lifetime if it was for Tina. She couldn't resist no matter and in her mind it was a bigger sin to not end up with the person she loves most than having to suffer and drown in regret until her last days on this unfair earth.
Quiet cricket chirps and flashes of light from lightning bugs scattered the midnight atmosphere, the smell of wet overgrown grass and muddy bark littered the ground that Katie and Tina sat on under a drooping willow tree in late spring.
Katie shouldn't have, and she definetly wouldn't have... But the sight of Tina on her porch after months of ghosting her triggered something in Katie and emotions just started pouring out.
Katie felt the cold wet bark from the willow tree scratching her back, but was too distracted by the woman sitting in her lap. Her best friend. Her tempation.
Tina's head rested on Katie's shoulder, her love and affection quiet as she peppered gentle kisses over Katie's face, neck, and collarbones in the dead of night, careful not to poke Katie with her horns as Katie stroked Tina's hair gently as if one wrong move would make her shatter.
It hurt to be gay, but it was worse to be straight and stay best friends with a woman you love romantically. Was burning in flames and being tortured for eternity really that bad if she was there with her lover?
And even if God was watching the two of them with disgust from above, love is love.
