Mina watches as her best friend squeals in delight as he hangs off his new boyfriend. They're good together, not quite sun and moon, more like a beach. Pushing and pulling, giving and taking but always in equilibrium. They're a strong force but a beautiful sight, it's cute, adorable even as Bakugou begrudgingly allows the red head to hold his hand and talk his ear off about the future and first dates. She smiles because, of course, she does. Those are two of her closest friends, and now they are happy together. She even helped make it happen, so she is happy.
Her stomach churns, and her throat squeezes. She's happy; she only left because she remembered they have an English assignment due tomorrow (she finished days ago).
Todoroki joins them for lunch some days, not often, maybe once every other week, but it's enough. Neither of them is touchy, but Hanta acts so differently when the taller boy is around. He's louder and gestures wildly as he tells obviously exaggerated stories that still earn a small smile or snort from their forever stoic classmate. She's happy for them, though; they are like the sun and moon, not in the way that they are opposites but in the way the moon reflects the sun's light. With the help of the sun, the moon is able to shine.
They are happy, she is happy for them, she just has to go to the bathroom (she locks the door and cries).
They are a cliché. Jirou is the pretty, smart, and cool girl, while Denki has consistently placed last in their class and makes a fool of himself constantly. Most would say she's too good for him, but the blonde treats her in a way that makes her think they're wrong. He's an idiot, but he's an idiot for her; she's a standoffish jerk, but despite her jabs, she'll defend him with a usually unseen ferocity. They aren't perfect for each other, not even close, but they bring out the good in one another.
Denki swats at an earphone jack as Jirou snickers, and Mina just smiles because that is one of her best friends. She is happy, she has to be, because if she's not, can she even call herself a friend?
She and Uraraka are like a mirror; they're similar to one another but not the same. They're both bubbly and touchy, excitable, and effortlessly kind, but Uraraka has a passion Mina just lacks. She doesn't mind; she admires it really, thinks the determination the brunette has to accomplish her dreams is awe-inspiring at times. Uraraka is the kind of girl you have to work for, but once you have her, you won't lose (and if you did something bad enough to lose her, you'd be looking at the business end of a glowing fist); it doesn't hurt that she's also one of the prettiest girls in 1-A. She's everything Mina could want in a girlfriend, so why, when she looks at the girl laugh openly, or easily hurl someone over her shoulder, does she feel nothing?
They say opposites attract, and she and Tsu couldn't be much different. Mina is loud and hyper, whereas Tsu is quiet and reserved. Mina is blunt with her love, while Tsu likes showing her appreciation in meaningful gestures. Mina puts work into her looks, hair products, face washes, makeup, and fun clothes, while Tsu has a natural beauty and elegance to her. They are as different as day and night, light and dark. They say opposites attract, so Mina should be head over heels for the shorter girl, so why does she feel nothing?
Yamomo is undoubtedly the prettiest girl in their grade. It's not just her long, sleek hair, her defined features, or the extra chub necessary for her quirk that makes her beautiful; it's the way she acts that truly makes her stand out. While her background leaves her a bit clueless about many of their struggles, she always offers whatever assistance she can. She's also incredibly humble to a fault; she easily has the most versatile quirk in the school, yet she's constantly praising others for their skills, attacks, wins, and losses. She has the hearts of many, and it shows with the constant confessions she gets. Yamomo is the perfect girl, so when Mina sees her in a form-fitting leotard with a face of total concentration to create something that perfectly fits the situation, then uses it to wipe the floor with her opponent, only to smile bashfully and claim it was all her partner does, why does Mina not feel anything?
