Ringing. The first thing Hestia registered was the loud ringing in her ears. She was used to the ever present hum of her tinnitus acting up from time to time, but this was different. It was like the sound was being piped through the comm channel in her helmet. On instinct she wanted to reach up and take her helmet off, but she couldn't move.

Why couldn't she move? She struggled to raise an arm, but it felt as though it was strapped down. Why? What was going on? And why was it so hot? A sick feeling sank in her gut. Something was wrong, terribly wrong. Hestia's stomach churned as she struggled to remember what exactly happened before she blacked out.

She was doing a job… they were celebrating. There was a building. She was lighting something- wood? But there was something else. She was yelling for someone… and then it all went black.

As her mind raced a muffled voice could be heard. Even through the ringing and the distortion Hestia knew her name. She tried to answer, but all she could muster was a groan.

The muffled voice said something along the lines of ‘good’ or so she thought. The voice said a lot of things, probably to someone else.

The next thing she knew, something was shining in her eyes. A steady hand held her eyelids open as the light focused on her pupil. It was jarring, but she was too exhausted to fight against it. The light was the catalyst for Hestia to finally come to.

All she could smell was fire and smoke, not just from the one raging a few meters away. Her hair had no doubt been singed by whatever had happened, she was used to the smell. What worried her was a deeper-meatier smell lingering in the area. She didn't even have time to think about it before someone was talking to her.

“I've given you a sedative to help manage the pain, at least until we get you back to Luna” She knew that voice. She could feel it vibrate in her chest- wait. Where was her armor?

She could feel a crust of tears and ash crack as Hestia struggled to open her eyes. Exhaustion seemed to weigh down her every move. Her tired eyes soon focused on the figure above her. A white and red helmet, one she had seen before. It stared down at her, the lenses reflecting her tired gaze back towards herself. Half of his face was illuminated by the flames, casting an orange glow across the armor's white plating. He seemed… not worried, but something else. She opened her mouth to ask, but when she spoke all she could hear was her own voice muffled. That's when she noticed the mask. The clear plastic was being held firmly over her mouth and nose by the hand of the man- no- medic. Behind him she could see the plume of black smoke rising into the dark abyss of the night sky.

Hestia had a clearer picture now. She could feel the heat of the nearby fire against her chest and face. There was an accident, she got hurt, they needed to do CPR. The world seemed to spin as the medic and someone else lifted the spinal board she was strapped to. Hestia groaned, trying to turn her head to the side as a wave of nausea washed over her.

“Puke in my oxygen mask and I'll make you clean it with your toothbrush” came a sharp warning from the medic. She wanted to reply, but Hestia knew if she opened her mouth nothing good would come of it.

The more awake she was, the worse she felt. Hestia wanted nothing more than to close her eyes and sleep whatever pain this was away, but the moment she closed her eyes there was a sharp strike to her cheek. She gasped at the pain, quickly shooting them back open and looking wide eyed at the medic leaning over her. He really was a piece of work. Her gaze struggled to focus on him as he worked with another person to secure her to whatever vehicle they had set her on.

“ ‘s that for?” She weakly asked.

“We need you to not be concussed for questioning.”

“...’questionin?”

Hestia was only answered by his helmet looking back down at her. She could feel the gravity of the situation now just from his gaze alone.

“What happened?”

Notes:

Dont get too comfortable. You want to know how we got here, right? I thought so. Originally I was going to add the chapters I wrote to this songfic, but I've decided to make them their own thing.

I'm sorry if someone sees this and thinks I'm spamming the CRASH fandom tag with my OC bullshit, but I'm having a lot of fun setting up how Wes and Hestia came to lothe eachother.

See y'all Friday 6/5/26
