Chapter Text
Wemmbu woke up to quiet coughs from where he was laying on the bed. He sat up, his long purple hair cascading down his shoulder.
The angel was coughing, his wings twitching with each cough. The devil looked outside the window, it was still dark out. He leaned over the angel, placing a hand on his forehead.
Shit. He was burning up.
Egg woke up to a damp towel on his forehead, a bowl and water at his bedside. Wemmbu was sitting on a chair next to him.
“Wemmbu?” Egg groaned out, his throat felt like it was burning hot and cold. His voice was creaky. “Yeah, chungie? You got sick, bro.” He scoffed, taking the towel and dipping it into the water, wringing it out and putting it back on his forehead.
Egg took a second to process. “Huh. I never get sick though.” Wemmbu just snickered.
“Well you genuinely look pretty sick right now, not gonna lie bro.” Egg rolled his eyes and sat back down.
Wemmbu picked up the bowl which Egg assumed to be soup. His clogged nose was not helping with figuring out what smell could be in the air right now. “Come on buddy. Time to eat.” Egg frowned at his words.
“I'm not hungry.” He felt uncomfortable, therefore didn't feel like eating.
Wemmbu just clicked his tongue, shaking his head. His spade-tipped tail was swaying back and forth. It seemed Wemmbu liked playing mother goose.
“Come on Eggychan say ahhhh!” He lifted up the spoon. Egg just rolled his eyes and sipped. “OK Bro, that's enough, give me the bowl.” He took the bowl from Wemmbu, holding it with two hands.
As Wemmbu watched him eat, Egg noticed the purple devil was wearing an apron. “Why are you role-playing as my mom bro?” Both of them laughed at that. They were interrupted by Wemmbu's communicator beeping in his pocket, however.
Wemmbu flipped open his communicator, his eyes reading left to right. Egg wondered what the message was.
The demon-hybrid then spoke, “I'll be back. Minute is asking me to check out the end portal. I put your meds next to your glass. You should drink them.” Wemmbu put his communicator away and untied his apron.
Egg waved him off and ate the rest of his soup, drank some water and took his meds. Thanks to the warm soup and medicine, he felt comfortable enough to let his drowsiness take him.
Egg didn't know what time it was when Wemmbu came back. But from the blue-ish tint from outside the window, he could assume it had to be evening. Egg still felt a little hazy.
He noticed Wemmbu sitting on the edge of the bed, bandages and antiseptic on his lap. New, fresh wounds were scattered on his body. Egg was quiet, he sat up, crawling to sit next to him. “Tough battle, huh?” Wemmbu scoffed.
“I guess. But it was really just a bunch of chungies.” He mumbled. Egg exhaled through his nose, he was gonna cough but held it in. He didn't want to worry Wemmbu. Especially not right now.
Egg opened his hands, a quiet offer to patch Wemmbu up. Wemmbu passed him the salve and bandages. Egg gently spread the salve over his wounds, he watched the devil twitch with pain. “..Sorry.” Egg mumbled quietly. Wemmbu scoffed. “It's fine bro.”
Egg noticed the sullen expression on Wemmbu's face. He didn't comment on it, but continued to patch him up.
Unable to comment on what could possibly be bothering Wemmbu, he tried a different tactic. Egg lied down and pulled the demon-hybrid down with him. “Yo—!” Wemmbu exclaimed.
“C'mon bro, nap time.” Egg mumbled, closing his eyes. Wemmbu scoffed and leaned against him. “Fine, but if I get sick bro, I swear to God.”
Wemmbu fell asleep against Egg's chest, enjoying the angel's warmth, either naturally or from his fever. And Egg enjoyed the coolness of the devil against his own feverishly warm skin.
Both of them fell asleep, warm comfort seeping into both their bones.
Egg woke up with Wemmbu still asleep, pressed against his chest. His spade tail wrapped around his foot. It was a bit ticklish.
There was a quiet rumbling sound. It was calming. He recognized it as Wemmbu's purr. Something that he learned he could do when he was with Mane.
Wemmbu always purred around Egg. Especially when they were alone. Try as He might, he couldn't stop it. He lowkey disliked that he purred, but Egg didn't mind, he ran his hands through Wemmbu's hair.
Egg heard someone at their door. Minute. Minute paused at the door. “Uhh.. I'll come back another time.” Egg nodded in agreement.
If Wemmbu woke up and saw Minute seeing him like this, he'd use a nuke shot and kill everyone including himself.
Wemmbu yawned just as Minute closed the door. He stirred, but just to move closer to Egg. Slinging his arms and legs around him. Egg sighed, his hand gently scratched at the base of Wemmbu's horns while he reached for a book to read while Wemmbu purred in his sleep.
Egg's fever spiked up again. He could feel himself getting warmer, he also couldn't focus correctly. His eyes kept getting lost on the page and he ended up having to reread the same paragraph again and again. Wemmbu seemed to notice as he stirred and sat up.
Wemmbu just looked at him for a while, prompting Egg to ask, “What, do I have something on my face, bro?”
Wemmbu sat up. “Your temp raised.” He stretched before taking the basin. “Need to lower it. I'll be back.” Egg just hummed and put down the book. He was feeling sluggish.
Wemmbu came back and realized Egg was gone. “Egg?” He called out. The angel didn't call back. No monotonous voice calling back. Nothing.
Wemmbu heard a distant cannon ring out. A player death. He rushed outside and found Minute fighting lawmen.
Where was Egg?
He was tempted to run and just find Egg. But if Egg was alive, it was useless to lead him back where it was unsafe. And he was sick.
Fuck. Egg was sick right now. He hadn't taken his 2nd dose of medicine yet.
Panic immediately rose in Wemmbu’s chest. He put on his elytra and started macing. It was taking too long. His movements were sloppy with panic, he couldn't tell if the adrenaline was making it better or worse.
Wemmbu had been fighting carelessly, not caring for the new wounds that would appear on his body because of it. He was beginning to get more and more irritated with each new LAW member that entered through the portal.
However, his carelessness had caused his netherite chestplate to nearly break. Forcing him to switch out of them and use diamond armor instead, which broke pretty quickly. He had been a bit slow on replacing his armor, so his totem popped. It wasn't that big of a deal to him in this moment, though.
It took a while, but he finally killed them all. He ignored Minute's calls of worry about his wounds and ran to look for Egg, who he found in his usual hiding spot. Egg was slumped down against the wall.
“Egg.” Wemmbu called quietly. Egg scoffed, “..Bro, you didn't even say the code word.”
Wemmbu chuckled, relief flooding his body that Egg was fine. That he was alive. He leaned down. “Come on. Let's go back to sleep.” He mumbled. The angel sighed, “Carry me then, I can't stand.”
Wemmbu shook his head and sighed, picking him up and bringing him back to their shared room. He leaned against Egg, his head on the angel's shoulder, relaxing. Egg leaned against him as well.
The angel paused, he hadn't noticed the new wounds on Wemmbu's body when Wemmbu first found him, but now that they were in their room, he noticed them. However, he felt way too tired right now to patch him up, even though he really, really wanted to.
Minute burst into the room a few moments later. “Wemmbu! Did you find—” He paused when he realized the scene. He seemed to always walk into them cuddling. He instantly shut up.
As the initial shock wore off, a sigh of relief left the voidling. Minute closed the door softly. The angel had fallen back asleep, thanks to being exhausted from the stress and his illness. Wemmbu was hugging him close, refusing to let him slip away again.
The angel woke up, and sat up, even though he didn't remember laying down, much less pulling the blankets over himself. Wemmbu must have tucked him in.
He noticed Wemmbu sitting at the edge of the bed. It was reminiscent of not too long ago.
Wemmbu was wrapping his hands, his skin must have torn due to the combined fact that the end was rather dry and cold, and that Wemmbu tended to grip his maces very very tightly depending on his emotional state.
“Yo.” Egg yawned. Wemmbu yawned too, leaning backwards. “Yo.” Silence enveloped the two, before they both broke out in a laugh.
While the silence was comfortable, Egg was looking at Wemmbu as he tended to his wounds. Egg noticed that Wemmbu seemed to be taut, anxious. Which was odd, because Wemmbu was always comfortable with Egg.
There were rarely moments where he'd be quiet and stiff like this. Egg was warring with himself, debating with himself if he should bring it up or not.
After a few moments, he decided to talk, “Your wounds.” Wemmbu seemed to stiffen a little, he didn't look up from his work.
The fighter knew that if he let Egg work on him, he'd find the wound that was bothering him the most right now. The one that popped his totem. When his diamond chestplate broke, he was a bit too slow to put another one on.
Thus, the feeling of sharp, hot, pain pierced across his abdomen, flooding his senses. Along with the sound of his totem popping– its light dancing around his eyes.
Wemmbu was still worried and anxious about where Egg was during the fight. He had gotten distracted. Just like now. He was shaken out of his thoughts hearing Egg's sigh, realizing that the angel had been watching him.
Egg lurched forward, “Come on bro. Let me help you.” Wemmbu shook his head and shrank back, “..No."
Egg raised a brow, Wemmbu usually liked when Egg tended to his wounds, so him saying no was odd.
They usually hid nothing from each other, and Wemmbu was usually an open book, at least to him. So seeing him like this was worrying him.
Egg sat up properly, and Wemmbu flinched. “Let me see.” Egg mumbled, keeping his tone soft. Wemmbu noticed his facial expression. Seeing his humanoid form almost completely won him over immediately.
Since Egg was usually in his eyeball form, his facial expressions were always muted, so to make sure Wemmbu could understand his expression, Egg made sure to exaggerate and hide nothing on his face.
But now, using his humanoid form, this habit carried over. His expression was clear as day. Worried. His eyebrows pressed together and a noticeable frown tugged his lips.
And who was Wemmbu to say no to a worried Eggchan? Especially when he looked so endearing.
So, Wemmbu relented and removed his shirt. There was a messily wrapped bandage, blood seeping through. Egg's frown deepened.
Wemmbu was looking at Egg’s hands. Egg's wings twitched. He was nervous about scaring Wemmbu away.
He knew Wemmbu trusted him, but this entire interaction had “fragile” in big red text written all over it.
Egg gently reached out, Wemmbu's eyes followed, tracking. But he allowed Egg to undo the hastily done bandage.
The wound under was gnarly, deep, and still bleeding. Thankfully, it seemed like Wemmbu had healed a little using golden apples, but it wasn’t enough.
Maybe it was the fever, or the fatigue that came with it, but he felt more worried and a tiny bit irritated.
Egg cleaned the wound with antiseptic. Wemmbu bit his lip, trying not to make a sound. Egg then rewrapped the bandages with fresh, new bandages.
Wemmbu seemed to notice the look on the angel's face. He mumbled out a, “..Sorry.” It was silent for a bit, before he continued and said “..You should just go back to sleep, bro. I can take care of the rest. You're still sick.”
Egg scoffed. “You should sleep too. You're wounded. Just let me finish this quickly then we can both get to sleep quicker.” Egg was getting irritated, his head wings twitching.
Wemmbu nodded, seeming to understand Egg’s irritability. "Okay.”
After a few minutes, Egg finished wrapping up Wemmbu's wounds. Wemmbu went to change into more comfortable clothes.
Egg lied down and waited for Wemmbu to come back. He came back after 5 minutes, wearing pajamas.
He lied down next to Egg, on his back and facing the ceiling. Egg turned to look at him. “..Bro.” Egg mumbled. Wemmbu sighed. “What, bro?”
“A hug would be nice.” Egg looked at Wemmbu who was staring at the ceiling. Wemmbu whined and complained about already finding the perfect position to sleep in, but he still turned around anyway, burying his face against the angel’s chest.
Egg ran his hands through Wemmbu's hair, causing the other to yawn.
“..Remind me to preen your wings later.” Wemmbu mumbled sleepily. Egg hummed, “What would you do without my powers for retention?”
Wemmbu laughed, “Bro is the retention monster.” Egg chuckled.
They fell into a comfortable silence. Minute peeked through the door before barging in, he learned from the two other times he walked into the duo hugging.
Once he was sure that Egg and Wemmbu were fine, he gently shut the door and walked away.
Wemmbu and Egg fell asleep, this time to not be interrupted till the next day. Covered in blankets and each other's warmth.
