Work Header

a perfectly good waste of time

Summary:

Lazy days hardly ever happened at UA, as if they weren’t already doing homework they were training, or doing weekend patrols, one thing or the other. So, when days like this came around, it was usually mutual understanding among the students that it was meant to be used to do absolutely nothing.

Izuku’s idea of a perfect lazy day revolved primarily around Katsuki.

Notes:

Yk when you get that fluff itch and you just HAVE to scratch it??? Yea that’s what happened. I rewatched mha recently and my love for these too like tripled by the end, their so canon it’s crazy
Anyway this is so self indulgent and was worked out over the course of a few days (mainly in the evening) so it reads more like a flow of consciousness to me rather than something super concrete but in a way i suppose it matches the theme.
p.s can whoever has the remote control for the sun turn it down a bit it’s been fucking boiling all week my hands are too sweaty to even hold my phone properly please ok thanks

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was a Sunday, and many of their classmates had gone home for the weekend, leaving class 2A with around 14 students still left in the dorms.

On normal school nights he they rarely had opportunities to sleep in the same bed as they had training in the mornings, and Tenya was pedantic about ‘individual resting time’, so Izuku took any chance he had to spend evenings with him, ideally with him being wrapped around Katsuki’s midsection. Which is exactly what he did, his face comfortably nestled in the space between his shoulders and his head, and his arms wrapped loosely around his waist, his hands absently wandering under his shirt, smoothing over each muscle and scar.

He was so comfortable that he happily ignored the sunshine that was seeping through the blinds, notifying them that the morning had arrived. He couldn’t, however, ignore the sound of Katsuki’s All Might alarm, that exclaimed ‘Time To Wake Up!’ In a booming voice far too loud for the early morning.

It was much to Izuku’s dismay when Katsuki stirred from his sleep, and the gentle hand that was once in his hair departed to silence his alarm.

He went still for a moment, before he gently peppered Izuku with gentle kisses to wake him from his slumber. First at the top of his head, then on his forehead, and he worked his way down until he was able to fully see his freckled face, his eyes somewhat open, but mostly closed.

“Wake up,” He nudged gently, pressing another kiss to his temple.

“Too early..” Izuku whined, snuggling ever closer to the blond.

“It’s 9.30 idiot, I need breakfast.”

Izuku grumbled petulantly, and this only amplified when Katsuki made his move to wriggle from his grip and out of bed.

The warmth suddenly ceased and Izuku made every move to stay latched onto him, like a sloth on a tree branch, but unfortunately his attempts were futile, as he slipped out of his arms with ease, leaving Izuku sprawled starfish style on the bed, with a boyish frown on his face.

Katsuki looked down at him from beside the bed, lightly amused.

“Come on.” He outstretched a hand in his direction, which Izuku frowned at momentarily, before hesitantly taking it and allowing himself to be pulled upright and towards the bathroom.

Breakfast time was quiet, with only the occasional student wandering in to the kitchen upon smelling Katsuki’s cooking, before being barked at that his breakfast had nothing to do with them.

Izuku sat close by on the counter, watching as his food got specially made, a sunny side up egg to go on top of his fried rice, as well as some sausages cut in to the shape of little octopi.

He swung his feet as he pleasantly watched his boyfriend go about this, occasionally receiving bites of food to taste.

Izuku smiled. Without the pressures of hero work or school, Katsuki he actually ended up being quite mild in temperament, his usual berating not even reaching the usual biting levels they had. In fact, he even ended up looking quite pleasurable at times, which was a change from his usual, irritable disposition.

“You’re staring.” Katsuki remarked, not even looking back at Izuku.

“I’m not.” He retorted, a blatant lie as he continued to admire him.

The blond didn’t respond, but instead he gave him an incredulous look from under his hair as he plated both of their meals, taking care as he made Izuku’s, lining all the octopuses and the egg carefully, like he was finishing off a painting.

Honestly, it was hard to not love him when he went all mushy like this.

The day went by quietly, the only real commotion being some of their classmates who had just come back to school after visiting home.

Izuku and Katsuki sat quietly on the sofa in the common room, wedged into the corner. They were both wordlessly watching something on the blonds phone, Izukus resting his full weight on to his side when a loud and overly enthused voice erupted from the hallway.

“It’s been so boring all day, come on guys let’s do something!” Kirishima rested his arms on the head of the couch they were both sitting on, looking at the small group expectantly.

“I’m not doing shit with you idiot. Go find someone else to entertain you.” Katsuki stated plainly, not even glancing in his direction, which caused Kirishima to pout slightly.

“But you guys! It’s been so quiet!” He now sounded sort of whiny, like a stubborn child.

“Dude, relax a bit! It’s been weeks since we’ve had nothing to do, you’ll regret not savouring it.”

Mina shrugged, adjusting her position on the rug as she continued to read her magazine.

“Mina’s right. And even so, what would we do? We’ve played all the games we own.” Tsuyu added thoughtfully.

It was just then, as if Kirishima had developed some sort of fortune telling ability over night, that Tenya burst through the door, Momo and Todoroki in tow, looking triumphant.

“Everyone! I have finally done it,” he says as he slaps a box of cards on to the coffee table dramatically. “I have finally found Minute To Win It: Pro Hero!”

  • Minute To Win It: Pro Hero! A game where you receive a card and have to finish the challenge within a minute, now with brand new Pro Hero, cards, written by your favourite pros themselves!

The lull that sat over the common room was immediately lifted at this statement, everyone rising from their spots the gather around the coffee table, starry eyed.

“You actually got it! But how? It was sold out minutes after the release!” Izuku exclaimed, a fascinated look on his face.

“I have my ways.” He adjusted his glasses on his nose, glowing with pride as his classmates chatted excitedly.

Todoroki rolled his eyes at the theatrics. “We went to a food market and stopped by a game store on our way back. We happened to get there in time to buy the last box.”

“It was a stroke of luck really.” Momo added, flushing at the praise.

“Let’s play! I wonder what the pros put on their cards!” Mina said, practically bouncing as she watched Kirishima unwrap the box.

“We shall indeed!” Tenya agreed.

They were already 20 minutes into the game, their commotion causing some of the other students to emerge from their rooms to get involved.

They gathered in a circle around the coffee table as they went through the cards.

Mina giggled as the 5 oranges she had managed to balance on her head toppled.

“5 points for me!” She exclaimed, easily picking one up and peeling it. “Your turn Izu!” She quipped before popping a segment into her mouth.

He excitedly took a card from the deck, gasping as he looked at the graphic on the front, eyes wide.

“Kacchan, look!” He exclaimed, raising the card above his head for the Katsuki to see, who had opted out of playing initially, but was swiftly distracted from his phone when Denki began frantically spinning on the spot as part of his challenge. He now resided behind Izuku on the sofa, his legs on either side of him as he rested his chin on Izuku’s soft nest of hair.

He took the card and looked at the holographic All Might, who looked heroic as ever on the playing card, which looked excessively premium in comparison to the others.

He made an approving sound before he read out the challenge on the card to the group. “Hold a handstand for a minute while naming as many US states as you can recall, succeed and gain 45 points and a skip for later.”

Handstand?!” Jirou blurted.

“He’s got it, it’s like that card was made for him!” Sero assured.

“Okay!” Izuku pushed himself up from his spot on the floor energetically, looking for a space to stand so that he wouldn’t hurt anyone if he fell.

Everyone shuffled closer to watch.

“Ok, 3, 2, 1, and… GO!” Ochaco laughed as she slammed the timer button, her cadence comparable to that of a TV host.

Izuku pushed himself off his hands, hoisting his legs in the air. He wobbled slightly before regaining balance, then he begun reciting all the states he could remember.

“Delaware, Detroit, Texas, Wyoming, St. Louis…” he faltered slightly as he began to lose balance, racking his brain for states that weren’t used for his smashes.

“Arizona, New York, California,”

He had managed to finish the minute, glowing and slightly red in the face as he received the card as proof of his victory.

The game continued, for a while longer before they veered off topic, becoming carried away with trying to hold a handstand for long than Izuku.

“Ok, so I may not be able to hold it as long as you, but can you do it one handed?! I can!” Mina challenged, demonstrating her one-handed- handstand with surprising grace.

This caused a sudden burst of handstanding in the room, everyone attempting to balance themselves one handed, which only resulted in the sounds of those same people tumbling and erupting in laughter. The only people still standing, (or handstanding really) were Mina, Izuku and Katsuki, who’s competitive flame was far to bright for him to ignore.

Mina and Izuku fell almost instantly, only narrowly avoiding falling directly on top of one another, both of them breaking out in fits of giggles until they realised they weren’t winners, instead  it was Katsuki, who held his own one-handed-handstand for another 10 seconds before swinging his legs back over his head, landing almost soundlessly as he triumphed.

“Take that losers, you really thought you could beat me?! You fucking thought.” He bragged.

Mina groaned, sprawling out onto the floor. “No fair! I’ve had enough of this,” she sounded defeated and out of breath, but then she almost immediately brightened again when an idea came to mind. “Who’s hungry!”

A resounding agreement sparked from the group, and immediately a debate ensued on what they should eat.

“Who’s in the mood for sushi?” Hagakure suggested.

“Eh, too fishy. What about curry? I know a good place that does delivery!” Sero supplied.

“Why don’t we do pizza? You can’t go wrong with that!” Kirishima added.

The debate went on for a while longer, before they finally agreed pizza would be the best option.

Before long the food had arrived and they began digging in, taking slices from each pizza type and piling them onto the paper plates that Momo had created.

The common room was full now, almost all of their classmates occupying the couches and the floor space, including some 2-B students who had somehow found their way into the dorm too.

The afternoon sun slowly disappeared, instead replaced by the pink-orange light of the sunset, the various shades draping over everyone’s faces as they conversed happily.

Katsuki had initially been speaking to Kirishima and Denki about one thing or another, Izuku at the other side of the room chatting animatedly with Kendo, Momo and Tsuyu. Somewhere further along into the afternoon, they had drifted back towards one another, like opposite poles of a magnet. Eventually Izuku had returned back to Katsuki’s side, his head slowly drifting from his shoulders to his lap. Katsuki watched as Izuku slowly withdrew from his conversation, his eyes looking heavy as he diverted his attention up to him.

“Tired?”

“A little. You?”

Katsuki nodded. “We need to start getting ready for bed,” he said quietly, before adding. “plus, if I have one more dumb conversation I’m going to turn Kirishimas hair to ash.”

Kirishima turned at this, a look of mock offending playing on his features, making Izuku laugh.

“Okay, okay, let’s go,”

He waved everyone their goodbyes, before following the other boy to the showers.

Izuku led on Katsuki’s bed, smiling softly as the blond took placed a sheet mask on his face carefully, taking care to smooth out all the creases.

“Now we leave it on for 10 minutes,”

Izuku hummed in agreement, and was quiet for a while, almost drifting to sleep before his mind wandered and his train of thought became vocal, staring as the various posters on his boyfriend’s wall as he chattered.

“You know, skin is kind of incredible when you think about it. It’s basically your body’s first line of defense against everything. Sunlight, bacteria, physical damage… I mean, some heroes probably have to be extra careful about that, right? Like if their quirk factor was their skin, like yours? Recovery Girl can heal injuries, but I don’t think she can stop sunburn. Well, maybe she can. I’ve never asked… Do you think All Might does face masks? I should ask him about that,”

10 minutes passed and Izuku was still going, so Katsuki took the liberty of doing the rest of his skincare while he led down, far too distracted to do it himself. He listened, amused, occasionally interjecting his thoughts and sending the green haired boy into a whole other train of thought.

He finished the routine with moisturiser, flicking Izuku’s forehead to tell him he was done, receiving a sudden yelp in response.

“What was that for??”

“I’m finished, you moron.”

Izuku pouted slightly, pushing himself upright on his palms, so his face came close to Katsuki’s, who sat on the edge of the bed.

The blond leaned forward slightly to close the gap between them, just then Izuku inched away from him teasingly, a smug expression creeping onto his face.

Katsuki leaned in again, and Izuku leaned back once again.

Determination sparked in Katsuki’s eyes, a look that said oh really? challenging the boy in front of him.

The moment very quickly pivoted to play-wrestling, Katsuki’s hands becoming increasingly grabby as he tried his hardest to get a hold of Izuku’s face and get the kiss he so rightfully deserved.

“Stop wriggling and let me kiss you idiot!”

Izuku only laughed harder as he pushed his hands away and craned his neck out of reach. In truth he did want to kiss him, but it was always so entertaining watching him fight for it and get frustrated when Izuku resisted.

They were more or less equals in terms of physical strength, so every push was met with one of the same force. As a result, their play wrestling never really went anywhere, instead it just wore both of them out.

Izuku had eventually gave in, partially due his arms aching from defending his face, and partially because of the slightly pouty look on Katsuki’s face, that appeared out of place on his usually sharp features.

“Okay, okay, okay,” he coaxed, watching as his face relaxed almost immediately.

Katsuki took the opportunity and wrapped his arms around his waist, pressing their lips together in a gentle, lazy kiss.

Izuku smiled into it letting himself be guided by his soft lips, all his thoughts going hazy as he wound his fingers into Katsuki’s hair, pulling him impossibly closer.

Katsuki moved further down, leaving soft kisses on the side of his mouth, then his cheek, then his, jaw, before making his way to his neck, immediately causing Izuku to squirm.

“Ah- that tickles!” He squealed as Katsuki began licking at his neck, in an almost feline manner.

He resisted every impulse he had to go further, to bite or leave a mark, because he knew if he did, then there would be a long night awaiting them and they had training first thing tomorrow.

The fact in itself irritated him, so he made his way back up to Izuku’s lips, this time kissing harder as he moved to straddle his legs, pushing him down onto the pillows.

At some point they had shifted their positions, Izuku now laying on top of Katsuki comfortably, his blunt nails lightly scratching the skin where his shirt rode up as they explored each others mouths.

Izuku felt a certain weightlessness during moments like these, whether it was the pinkish haze that drifted over everything in his mind, or the lack of oxygen, he wasn’t sure. He also wasn’t sure why he suddenly felt the warmth leave his front, then Katsuki’s lips.

“Izuku, you’re floating again.”

Katsuki sounded incredulous, but his faintly pleased expression betrayed him, knowing what this usually meant.

“Oh.” So he was.

It happened from time to time, his quirk activating by itself. It was usually triggered by strong emotions, and apparently love counted, as Katsuki usually had to pin him down to stop him drifting away like a helium balloon.

He took care to not land too heavy on Katsuki, although he let out a perturbed grunt all the same.

They were almost about to continue where they left off, but then a harsh buzz came from on the nightstand.

It was Izuku’s phone.

Katsuki groaned loudly, expressing his displeasure as he reached for the phone.

He looked at the screen to see who could possibly be interrupting them, but his expression quickly changed when he saw the name on the phone.

“Hi Mom!” Izuku exclaimed, taking the phone from his grip but remaining in his spot on top of him.

“Hi Honey! Did I catch you during your training, you sound out of breath…”

Katsuki choked a laugh at this, snickering even harder when he saw Izuku’s flushed face.

“Uhh.. something like that?” It sounded more like a question, but his mother seemed to brush it off as she continued to inquire about his week, checking he’d eaten. Motherly stuff.

“…Mitsuki and I just got back from the cinema! Ah, now that I mention it, she’s been trying to reach Katsuki, but his phone seems to be on silent. Do you mind checking in on him when you see him?”

The person in question’s eyes suddenly widened, his head shaking vehemently as if to say I’m not here.

Izuku suddenly looked sly as he watched his face.

“You can ask him yourself, he’s right here!”

Katsuki narrowed his eyes at him as he watched the phone be placed on speaker.

“Hi Auntie.” He tried to sound as enthusiastic as possible.

“Oh! Hello Dear, I wasn’t aware you too were together! How have you been?”

“Well things are a bit HEAVY right now.” He replied, the emphasis on ‘heavy’ mainly due to him trying to buck Izuku off his body.

Unsuccessfully, however, as he just giggled and readjusted himself.

“I’m sure!” Inko exclaimed sweetly, unaware of what was happening on the other side of the phone. “The hero course seems to be keeping the both of you busy. But knowing you, I’m sure you can handle it! Oh, and please do call your mother when you can. I’m aware you too are arguing but she’s a bit worried.”

“Yea I’ll call the old hag, as long as she apologises!”

Inko laughed at this, before giving them her well wishes and saying goodnight to the both of them.

“Idiot.” Katsuki stated, looking mildly unimpressed with Izuku’s antics.

“I love you too.” He said easily, laying his head down just under the blonds chin.

Katsuki huffed a laugh at this, kissing the crown oh his head.

They both drifted off to sleep like this.

Notes:

Yea like I said… stream of consciousness
it only really registered after trying to edit this to the best of my ability that it’s sort of cyclical, they start and end their day in pretty much the same way and I think that’s cute and very fitting
Also can you feel my love for found family 2-A??

ALSO look I don’t know what timeframe I’m shooting for here, i needed deku to have discovered the other aspects of OFA for the little floaty thing to work (which came from something I saw on tumblr but i can’t for the life of me find it) but it sort of places me in a funny spot timeline-wise so yea ☺️

In my mind KT is like me and on days where nothing is required of him he says just about the minimum amount or words necessary and that’s it. Like he’s lowk so quiet here idk
also little POS izu is like, canon to me but I say that a lot so take my words with a grain of salt
