Truce

Summary:

Buck and Chimney force Tommy and Maddie to have a conversation in an attempt to make them get along.

Notes:

Table 1, prompt #8 - overprotective

Work Text:

Tommy and Maddie tried to avoid each other as often as possible but it wasn't always easy and Buck and Chimney were sick of it. The two of them needed to finally learn how to get along, and Chimney and Buck were bound and determined to make them. So, when Buck and Tommy showed up at the Hans' place for dinner one night, the former and Chimney quickly put their plan into action. "We're just going to run to the store really quick. We'll be right back." Buck grinned at a clearly skeptical Tommy, quickly kissed him, and then fled.

"It won't take long," Chimney lied before he too fled.

The two of them glanced at each other. "They're not subtle," Maddie finally murmured.

"Not at all," Tommy agreed.

They stewed in awkward silence for about ten minutes before Maddie couldn't take it anymore. "So they want us to get to know each other better, right? That's obviously why we're here."

"Evan thinks it's important, and I agree with him. We don't have to like each other but we should at least get along." See, Tommy could be an adult and use his words.

"Agreed." She chuckled nervously. "So we're both runners, obviously," Maddie finally offered.

"I'm done running," Tommy firmly reassured her.

"As I am." But Maddie still had a hard time trusting Tommy, even though her brother clearly was head over heels in love with this man.

"We both love Evan and Theo. I'm not going anywhere, Maddie. I promise."

Maddie narrowed her eyes at him. "You can understand why I'm so overprotective of my brother and nephew, and worry about them."

"Of course I do. Evan's the love of my life, and we've already wasted way too much time. So, agree to at least be civil with one another? Call a truce?" Tommy would win Maddie over someday, he was sure of it. Well, mostly sure.

"Yes, that's fine with me." She held out her arm, and the two of them shook on it.

They were talking about a movie they both liked when Chimney and Buck walked back in. "Everything good here?" a worried Chimney ventured.

"No arguments?" Buck checked.

"You two can relax now," a laughing Tommy informed him.

"We're good now." That was mostly true, and Maddie didn't want to lie to either of them since they had clearly worked hard on this plan.

Buck and Chimney sighed in relief and proceeded to force their partners into a group hug. Maddie and Tommy would work hard to have a civil relationship, and they'd eventually become actual friends.
