Work Text:
When Philip and Shotaro arrived to the detective’s office for the first time after meeting, it was oddly quiet. After a moment, Shotaro broke the silence.
"So. I'm gonna type up a case report. About what happened today."
"Oh, yeah, we should do that," Philip agreed.
"We?"
"Yes? We're both detectives."
"Ah. Well, only one person needs to type it up…"
"I can do it-"
"I'll do it. You should rest."
Philip sighed and went to bed.
Shotaro sat down at the typewriter and sighed.
Boss died today. I rescued Philip, but
Shotaro stopped typing, not sure what to type next. After a minute, he put his head in his hands. When he could no longer stand the silence, he got up and turned the radio on for some noise. A pop song was playing.
"This song is really good," Philip commented after a moment. "Are you still working on the report? I can help." Philip got up and walked to the typewriter. "You didn't put the date on it? That would be pretty important information for a report."
"I guess…" Shotaro mumbled. Philip silently read the few words on the paper. He started typing, and Shotaro looked up to read what it said.
we are partners now, so we have each other. And we always will.
"Always?" Shotaro asked. "Really?"
"Yes. At least as long as we're Kamen Riders and detectives."
"I'll always be a detective protecting this city for sure…"
"Then I will too."
Philip continued typing up the report, which was not much of a report.
Philip has nowhere else to go, so he will be staying at the agency. He will be helping me solve cases and fight as Kamen Rider when needed. As long as needed. Forever.
Shotaro was still hesitant about that, but he wasn't in the mood to complain.
As it got later, Shotaro struggled to write about what had happened, not sure how to put everything into words.
“Well, if you won't let me do it, then let's just go to bed and do it tomorrow."
"But I should do it as soon as possible…"
"It doesn't seem very possible for you right now," Philip said bluntly.
"Fine. But you aren't doing the report either. I'm the detective so I do the detective reports."
"That makes sense," Philip said.
Shotaro lay down on the bed in the agency room, too tired to go home. Philip lay down next to him.
Eventually, they both fell asleep.
-
Shotaro woke up the next morning to find Philip already awake, scribbling on paper.
"What are you doing?" Shotaro asked.
"Good morning! You said you would do the detective report but I woke up first. I didn't type anything on your paper I just wrote about what I remember."
"…oh. Uh, thanks. That helps."
"Of course. Just wanted to help my partner."
"Partner…?"
"Yeah. We became partners last night, right? When we became Kamen Rider?"
Shotaro read over the document and found the sentence Philip had added.
we are partners now, so we have each other.
"Ah, right. Sorry, a lot of stuff happened…"
"It's fine, Partner."
Shotaro smiled. He could get used to that.
