Work Text:
Daishi was very interested in the alien, Goo, that had chosen him to be a superhero. At first he wondered about all the obvious things, but at the end of the day when he finally had time to relax and take in this new (if wild) situation, he simply found himself fascinated by Goo. And part of it was probably just the fact that he just met an alien, but that wasn't all.
By human standards, Goo looked like a guy around Daishi's age. It was interesting that a species on a completely different planet ended up looking so similar to humans. And his voice was very charming, for lack of a better word, even though Daishi couldn't understand his language and Goo had difficulty speaking Japanese, though it seemed he could understand it already. Daishi wondered how that worked. He loved listening to Goo's voice, and would definitely have to learn to understand Goo's language if he stuck around for more than a few days.
"Hey, I have a random question. Are you a guy?" Daishi asked one day. Goo looked puzzled at this question. "Like, you look more like a guy than a girl. At least I think so. Uh, by human standards? Though your voice is…I mean I like your voice! It's very…nice. Uh, so like, are you? A guy?"
Goo nodded slowly, though it was possible he(?) didn't understand what Daishi meant. Daishi decided not to explain it further and the conversation ended awkwardly.
As he got ready for bed that night, Daishi had a realization: if Goo was a guy, and Daishi found him charming, did that make him gay? Daishi lay in bed, staring at the ceiling as he thought about this. He had never been interested in any guys before. Or any girls. But the point was, Daishi wasn't into any guys except for Goo. So why did he find Goo so charming interesting?
It was probably just because he was an alien. That made sense. The more he thought about it, Daishi decided that had to be the reason. Daishi was not interested in human guys. And he would not have been interested in Goo if he didn't know Goo was an alien.
But since he did know Goo was an alien, he was interested in him. And Goo being a guy, or at least looking like a human guy, did not make that interest go away. So that meant…
It didn't mean anything about Daishi. It didn't have to mean anything. Someday soon the earth would be saved, and Goo would leave, and they would never see each other again. And Goo wasn't interested in Daishi in a romantic way anyway. So it wasn't worth thinking about a future together. Thinking about it would make their inevitable separation much sadder, Daishi was sure of it.
As he closed his eyes and tried to fall asleep, Daishi wondered if Goo was interested in him. Maybe he would have to ask.
But no matter the answer, it was bound to hurt someday. So it would be best to not ask, Daishi decided as he fell asleep.
