The Chain had found themselves in Sky's Hyrule -well his Hyrule before it became Hyrule- once again. They'd been traveling for a few days now and it had been going ok for them.
They ran into a few monsters, bokoblins, chuchus, a moblin once, but nothing they couldn't handle.
That was until they stumbled upon a monster camp.
“Dammit!” Time cursed as a moblin slammed its spear into his shield.
“Sky, I thought this was supposed to be a monster free route!” Legend shouted.
“It was! We've been on the road, I haven't had a chance in my time to update my map of where all the monster camps are now!” Sky responded as he ducked under a club.
Twilight let out a grunt as he swung his sword.
Wind was holding his own, but he was too occupied with the monster in front of him to notice that a bokoblin had snuck up behind him…
BAM!!
It struck Wind across the back, sending him rolling.
“Wind!” Hyrule yelled.
“I got him!” Sky gave the bokoblin in front of him one last slash before running over to the boy.
Wind let out a groan, “Sky..?” He mumbled.
“Hey…” The knight said in a soothing tone. “What hurts?” He asked.
“Back…”
“You feel everything? Legs, feet, toes?”
“Mhm…”
“Ok, that's good.”
—
Time was trying to get to Wind and Sky but it was a tad bit difficult with two hero's off the field and no longer fighting.
Moblins and bokoblins left and right, the moblins were even black-blooded!
That made it all the more difficult to get to the two heroes.
Wild brought up his shield to block a moblin spear and looked over towards Wind.
“How are we supposed to get through all these monsters?!” He hissed through gritted teeth.
“Just keep fighting!” Hyrule said.
The fight wore on until a moblin came up to Sky and Wind forced the knight to grab Wind and move further away from the group.
He stood in front of Wind, sword in one hand, shield in the other. He faced off the moblin, fighting around in a way that almost looked like dancing.
Finally, he had downed the beast and turned to the others to see that at last, they had gotten the rest of the monsters down as well, but it wasn't until he saw a familiar and rather unwelcoming magic that he realized who was behind the monsters in this area.
Without warning, a diamond barricade appeared in front of the others, separating them from Wind and Sky.
“Wind! Sky!” Warriors yelled.
Meanwhile, Twilight was banging on the barricade, trying to break through.
“What the hell is this shit?!” He scoffed.
It wasn't until Ghirahim appeared before the barricade that everyone froze.
“You.” Four clenched his fists at his side.
“Yes yes, it is I. I'd apologize for making such an appearance but I wouldn't want to lie now, would I?” Ghirahim started, dramatic as always, he continued with his monologue.
“You see…months ago, after you all had…bested me, I realized that I would need to find a better way to reach my skychild-”
Sky shivered at the possession in his words. All he could see right now were the memories of what the demon did to him, he drowned said demon out.
But a groan from Wind snapped him back to reality. The sailor was now on his feet, not the best fit for a fight but he was determined.
His gaze landed on Ghirahim and a glare formed across his face which he made zero attempt to hide.
“-so you see I decided on this plan to get back what is rightfully mine. The monsters didn't give you too much trouble, did they? I sure hope not…I need my skychild relatively healthy.” Ghirahim ended his monologue and turned to the two on the other side of the barricade.
Sky froze under his gaze and when Ghirahim started to get closer?
Wind lunged, he wasn't fit to fight but that didn't matter, he tried to land a hit but the demon didn't let him.
“WIND!” Time called out.
He immediately grabbed Wind and used a bit of magic to toss the boy back over by Sky.
The knight in question yelled, “WIND!!” He instantly got to his feet and raced over towards the sailor.
A groan from Wind indicated that he was alive, but he had passed out.
Sky turned his gaze to Ghirahim the moment he confirmed Wind was alive.
Ghirahim expected Sky to look scared…maybe a bit angry but not like this.
Sky wasn't just angry, he was furious -enraged- because Wind was his brother and this man dared hurt him.
Ghirahim came for Sky, and he laid a hand on his brother. He hurt Wind and he would pay the price for his actions.
The knight stood up, practically seething. His eyes were wide and unblinking, eyebrows furrowed, making his nose scrunch up and his lips were peeled back in a snarl.
Sky was livid.
Ghirahim almost took a step back. The only other time he had seen the skychild this angry was when he had finally gotten to Zelda-
Sky wasted no time, while Ghirahim was stuck in his thoughts, the knight lunged, unsheathing his sword and slashing at the demon's side.
This caused him to have to scramble to get his swords.
For once, Ghirahim was on the defensive.
Sky showed zero mercy, he cut with precision like no other, concurrently, the others were trying to figure out how to get past the barricade.
“How the hell are we supposed to get past this?!” Twilight exclaimed.
“I don't…” Warriors trailed off with a groan.
“Well…Sky seems to be holding his own for now.” Legend pointed out.
“That's an understatement, I have never seen him this angry." Wild snorted.
Sky let out a growl of rage as Ghirahim dodged an attack, desperately trying to find a way out of this situation while still getting away with Sky.
Then, he gets an idea.
Quickly he teleports right next to Wind.
When Sky whips around and sees this? He gets angrier if that was even possible at this point.
“Don't. You. Dare. Do NOT touch him.” Sky growled.
“And if I did?” Ghirahim reached down and grabbed Wind by the back of his shirt.
Sky racked his brain, he couldn't lunge forward, Wind could get hurt if he tried to continue the fight. And knowing Ghirahim? He would probably use the sailor as a human shield…
Goddess, he had to do something! There was no way he'd let Ghirahim hurt Wind even further.
What could he do, what could he do-
The other had eventually found a way past the barricade…being the strongest, Twilight had the others climb onto his back and shoulders and they hopped over it considering it wasn't extremely tall.
And because it didn't go into the ground far, Twilight could turn into a wolf and just…dig underneath it. Like a dog escaping a yard.
Neither Ghirahim nor Sky realized this until there were 7 more figures standing by his side.
“What- how on earth-” Ghirahim began.
“Honestly, it wasn't difficult. I mean…come on, it's like..what? 6 feet? We are all heroes in our times, a 6 foot tall fence isn't keeping us anywhere.” Legend said in a very sarcastic and rude tone.
This made Ghirahim angry…how dare they mock him?! He was a Demon Lord! How could they mock him so easily??? They should be trembling in fear!
While he was bubbling with anger…Sky took this opportunity to lunge while he was taken off guard.
He quickly slashed at the demon who dropped Wind in surprise.
Sky took this chance and grabbed Wind with amazing agility and backed up as fast as he had lunged forward.
Ghirahim let out a shout of frustration.
Warriors stepped forward taking Wind into his arms and over to Hyrule who stood behind everyone, ready to assess Winds injuries.
With the sailor now safe…Sky let this rage boil back up…
He turned his gaze back to Ghirahim and shot forward, one slash right after another gave no time for the demon to be able to catch his breath.
—
By the time Sky was done with Ghirahim, the demon looked as if he had been through a shredder.
Finally accepting his defeat, Ghirahim gritted his teeth to speak, “This isn't over,” and then he teleported away.
Sky was breathing hard, ragged breaths in and out. He didn't even realize he was trembling until he saw his hands when he went to sheath his sword.
He jumped when he felt a hand on his shoulder, quickly turning to see Time standing next to him.
“Hey…are you ok?” The man asked in a gentle tone.
“I..uhm…y-yeah…” Sky stuttered out.
Time gave him a look that said “don't lie to me.”
“I…” Sky started, “…I-I will be…”
Warriors crouched down next to Wind. “Hey…come on sailor, wake up.”
A groan escaped Wind as his eyes flickered open. “Mm….what happened…?”
“You got hurt. Can you tell me what hurts right now?”
“Head…back…feel dizzy.”
“Ok, you probably have a concussion.”
Warriors grabbed Wind's arms to help him stand, to which the boy immediately stumbled.
“Ok, that clearly won't work.” The captain stated.
“Dizzy…” Wind mumbled.
With a sigh Warriors picked up the sailor, scooping him into his arms.
And, surprisingly, the other didn't complain.
He just grabbed onto Warriors, hands gripping the fabric of his tunic and resting his head on the other's shoulder.
“Everyone ok?” Time asked, his hand still on Sky's shoulder.
A series of yeps and yes's emerged from the Chain.
“Ok then…let's get moving.”
They walked and walked until they found a clearing, safe enough to settle down for the night.
Once they had everything set up, they finally had a moment to sit down and breathe.
Legend immediately flopped down, tired. Hyrule and Four followed.
Twilight, who was still in wolf form, padded over to where Wild was laying and curled up next to him.
Wild was grateful for the extra warmth and sank into it with a sigh.
Wind was laying down with Warrior's scarf wrapped around him.
“Wow you're just like a big baby.” The captain said, sitting down next to Wind.
He placed a hand on Wind's head, ruffling his hair.
The wolf let out a huff of amusement, overhearing the conversation.
“M’ not a baby.” Wind mumbled into the scarf.
“Uh huh…sure you're not.” Warriors laughed.
He ruffled Wind's hair once more before laying down next to the sailor who scooted closer to him.
Sky sat down and let out a shaky breath. He buried his face into his hands…he couldn't close his eyes without terrible, unwanted memories popping into his head.
He felt a weight beside him and turned to see Time.
“Hey kid…you doing ok…”
“Uhm…I…I don't…” Sky cut himself off with a shaky exhale. “I can't…close my eyes without seeing…without seeing him.”
Time placed a hand atop his head. “Memories won't stop bugging you for a while unfortunately…but he is not here and I swear to Hylia, I will do everything in my power to make sure he can never hurt you again.”
Sky opened his mouth to respond but all that came out was a choked noise.
Time pulled him into a hug and Sky started to cry.
He cried until he had no tears left, he cried until he exhausted himself.
“Sh sh…it's ok, you're alright…” Time mumbled, a hand rubbing in a circular motion in-between his shoulder blades.
The knight buried his face in Time's shoulder, hands grasping his shirt.
Sky decided that maybe he could fall asleep.
And he would, and when the morning came, everyone would let him sleep, no one dared to wake him up.
But right now? He was safe in Time's arms, he could let down his guard and relax, safe and sound.
Because his father was here and as long as he was here, no one could ever hurt him.
